Without Googling, have you heard of Chichen Itza?
I'm wearing the shirt I got from Mexico. Several people asked about it. I told them what it said and several (all) have asked "what is that?" I explained Mexico/Ruins/Mayans/etc. Blank stares. My DH said he wasn't surprised that he wouldn't think a lot of people would know. I was surprised and thought it was kind of a common thing.
So, did you know what it was?

Yes, we went to Cancun on our honeymoon 22+ years ago, and a tour of Chichen Itza was part of that. A very long and tiring day trip! When dh and I went, they were still allowing people to climb to the top. I don't think that's allowed any more.

Yes...I went there with my DH when we went to Cancun. It was also in a Reebok commercial years ago. Or maybe it was Nike.

I've never been but yes, I've heard of it.
I'm always surprised by people who aren't interested in travel. I guess just because I am such a travel nut that it surprises me when others aren't interested in knowing more about different places.

Yes, but we were in PDC in February. Otherwise I probably wouldn't know specifically where it was (I think I'd heard of it).

So Gypsy, your vote is for deep fried, right? I suspect most people in my social circle have at least heard of it, even if they don't recall exactly what it is. And I do know we learned about it in school, although I might just have remembered that because I liked saying it, lol.

Just reading the words I thought Taco Bell but when you explained then yes it sounded vaguely familiar. But I would be understanding of someone who hadn't heard of it. Not everyone has vacationed in Cancun.

We climbed to the top, but that was 1996; they stopped allowing people to climb it in 2006 I heard.

I went there with my family when I was 12, so yes! Me too! My stepsister (who was like 9 at the time) had her little purse snatched there. Too bad it was a kid's purse with nothing in it. The thief made a poor choice.

I still remember the name to this day because it was a location in a Choose Your Own Adventure book I read in 5th grade, haha!

Also, I'm not sure if not having vacationed in Cancun is an excuse. I've never been to Jordan, but I know about Petra.

Yes. My dad has been there several times and he took my mom and my adopted brother plus I read about it when I was a child.

I also appreciate folks being honest. There are tons of places and things I haven't heard of and I've never left the continent. I was just thinking this was a common one. Maybe I've been watching too much Ancient Aliens

It's a vaguely familiar name, but off the top of my head I couldn't tell you anything about it.

Yes, I know what it is. I'm another one who honeymooned there. We went in 1998 so we got to climb to the top.
