I've thought about that but is thee a monthly fee? i figure i have enough music so i shouldn't pay anything for music, but i have thought about it. It is a low monthly fee, but if opined it worth it. I have a ton of music and a couple of running playlists of my own, but I get bored easily. I do enjoy the mash-ups - mixing of parts of songs - in the RockMyRun mixes. It is rare that a whole song is played all the way through, instead you get the best couple of minutes of each songs before it is blended into something else, sometimes coming back to the first song. So, a 40 minute playlist often has a mix of 15+ songs. You might not think it is worth it however. There is a FREE version that doesn't give you access to all the mixes, you might want to try that out and see if it is for you. Thanks, elaine! I just downloaded the free app to check it out.

I have gotten 5 days of walking in and 4 days of strength training. Not sure about this weekend. I have a lot to do tomorrow, so that will probably be a "rest" day for me.

I went for an outdoor run this morning, first time doing it outside in the morning, perfect crisp cool air, I should do this more often. Glad you got out there & found some cool air!

Day 5 of being on the DL and it is making me crazy. Logically I know it is better to rest my poor feet, but it is making me very anxious. I keep looking at my training plan and watching my girlfriends get their long runs in this morning, and I just get grouchy. I have another therapy appointment today for some myofascial release so we will see what happens. The therapy appointments are $$$ so I am really trying to stay off my feet for at least a week to see if the therapy helps. Right now, I'm not buying it.
Someone had had asked about cadence up thread. I try to work on cadence at least once a week. The theory behind lots of quick steps is that you have less time on your feet and your strides are going to be shorter which results in less injury. Also when your strides are smaller, your feet land right under you instead of in front and helps prevent the dreaded "heel strike" which slows you down. I have tried a metronome app and special cadence apps but the best thing have found is using Army cadence that can be DLed on iTunes. Makes moving your feet a lot easier and also makes me feel badass running to cadences. My DH (army) laughs at me, but I don't care.

Kymberlee - I'm sorry that you have to spend more time off your feet. That's frustrating! I'm sure you're doing the right thing, though. It's no good to ignore an injury - it will just get worse & you'll be out even longer. Speedy healing to you! I got my 10 in this morning, but I think it might have been 2 miles too many. I kind of fell apart at mile 9, ended up with a blister on the ball of my foot (that's never happened before) and am feeling completely wiped thanks to the 95% humidity.

I was on vacation and did some hiking this week. I can't believe how sore i was after walking uphill. I thought I was in reasonably good shape from walking, but wow -- add an incline and I'm a lightweight.

I have a question about cadence. I use ISmoothRun and it says my cadence is between 55-65. I'm 5'11" and I'm focusing on taking smaller steps, but even when I feel like I'm taking tiny ones, it just goes up in the 60's. What am I doing wrong? Is that number for just 30 seconds? "Perfect" cadence is 180 from what I recall. When we measure with my running group, we time for only 30 seconds and only count one leg. So my typical cadence is 44 steps on my right leg in 30 seconds, which gives me an overall cadence of 176. Try to count it on your own without the app to get a better feel for it. I would think it would be darn near impossible to only take 55-65 steps in one minute! That was a really good idea so I researched how they track cadence on iSmoothRun and found that there is a known bug for their cadence. It's not working. So, at least I'm not as slow as I was thinking!

I'm so proud of myself for doing it. My time ended up right around 49 minutes so not as good as I'd hoped, but okay for my first 5K. Ready for the Glow Run at the end of August now. Hoping it will be cooler that day.

Started off at 6am for my 9 miler and only got about 5 miles done before it was too hot to continue. Waited about 1/2hr and finished 4 miles on the treadmill, which was really tough because my legs were sore from earlier. Hope it still counts on my training plan as 9 miles. Next time, I will probably wake up at 4 and start running!

I'm so proud of myself for doing it. My time ended up right around 49 minutes so not as good as I'd hoped, but okay for my first 5K. Ready for the Glow Run at the end of August now. Hoping it will be cooler that day. It was hot. I went with my baby sister any my daughter We ended up walking a lot because the heat was affecting my daughter who recently moved back from Georgia and hasn't re-acclimated to our heat and humidity. Our time was 49 minutes too. LOL. The little girls out there were adorable.
One funny thing that happened, was at the water station. We could hear one man who was passing out water, calling out names (they were on bibs) as he handed out water “good luck Ann” etc. and that, “wow, I know everyone!” My daughter signed up just last week so her name was not on her bib. My sister was the first in line as we reached the table and said “and Summer” and gestured back but Summer didn't hear her say anything, so after hearing “good job Summer” she said, “wow, how did he do that?” we just laughed and said he was a good guesser.
We are also doing the Glow Run in August, it's always fun doing that one.

I've been walking nightly - about 3 miles at a 3.5 mph pace. Tonight I decided to try running part of it - I would run from one telephone to the next then walk to the next and then run and so on. Only did 1.5 miles and my pace was about 2.5 mph - OUCH!
It was discouraging to say the least but I feel like I got more of a workout so I'll keep at it.

He is wonderful for beginning and older runners because he takes a run/walk/run approach. He was an Olympic runner and still does marathons regularly, so his method works. A number of us here use his approach too. I got in 4 miles this morning; the longest run since I broke my wrist. I hate running in a cast, especially in high humidity. My half marathon at the end of August will be pathetically slow. At least it will be in Los Angeles, so it will be a dry heat. LOL!
