I prepared the whole meal today. I just have to heat things up tomorrow other than make gravy. We shall see how that works. I feel like I have been making the meal for about 28 years and have come such a long way from not knowing that there were two bags of stuff in the turkey's cavities. My husband does the grocery shopping and I think this has been the first year I didn't have to go back and get something. Fingers crossed.

We have an under mount sink in the kitchen. 5 gallon bucket in sink lined with a food safe bag filled with brine water. In goes the turkey. Down goes the sink.
Can't finish the dishwasher cycle and all food prep has come to a hault while they deal with the sink.

It's hardly a disaster but I did have to run out to the store at 930 at night to get an extra can of french's onions for the green bean casserole. (When I doubled the amounts, I was looking at the "add 2/3 cups" to the beans, and neglected to read the 1 1/3 cups on the ingredient list... the remainder is for the top.)
But I am glad I noticed tonight and not TOMORROW at noon when I am cooking the thing.

It turned out to just be a delay and not the disaster I thought it would be. For that I'm thankful. And of course I didn't notice my typo until you quoted it.

We are having Thanksgiving dinner tonight. The fresh green beans we bought at the grocery store Monday evening already went bad. I took them back this morning and bought some others at Costco. When I lived abroad the thing I loved about Thanksgiving was that I could always send my x-h out for things I forgot or screwed up!! One year our oven blew a fuse.. thank goodness we weren't in the US or we would have been screwed!!!

My pecan pie is soupy and odd looking. It tastes okay. Luckily, I'm the only one who would have ate it anyway. My creamy mashed potatoes are once again creamy but still slightly lumpy. I'm going to try a roll recipe. I have done very little bread baking, so I'm not confident on that one.

My blender broke, so I tried making hummus in my nutribullet last night... hahaha.....That did NOT work!!! Three years in a row my mixer died on a holiday which was a huge disaster each time so four years ago I bought an extra mixer so I'd have a back up. My mixer hasn't broken since the extra mixer is still sitting there unopened collecting dust.

I'm sorry everyone has suffered some sort of disaster, but it's nice to know I'm not alone. I made turkey shaped sugar cookies because.......I have no idea why. I was feeling like I had everything under control and could take the time to make them I guess. <shrug> I didn't need them for a dessert and no one here even eats sugar cookies. But, I own the cookie cutter and what other occasion could I use it? Anyway, I only made 9, and as I was taking the cookie sheet out of the oven, the parchment started to slide and I overreacted and threw, and I mean literally threw the the whole batch, parchment and all, into the oven. I threw them so hard that two of them hit the back wall of the oven, then shattered and sprayed cookie bits all over inside and outside the oven. On the plus side, I had already finished all of my other baking. And, now my oven is sparkling clean and the smoke detector has been thoroughly tested and works just fine. I'm sorry but this one just made me burst out laughing. It's totally something I would do. (the throwing part)

I stupidly left unbaked sweet potato casserole in the counter when I stepped outside to help my husband with the turkey fryer. The greyhound managed to lick up about a third of the casserole before I caught him. Thankfully I made two pans and he didn't get to the second one.

According to TV chef Sara Moultan, my turkey should take 3-1/2 hrs to cook. I'm approaching 5 hrs - and it's still not done.
So either my oven is a piece of sh!t or Sara Moultin is full of sh..... Well you know. Grrrrrrrrr

I made a beautiful chocolate bourbon pecan pie and had it wrapped on the counter last night.
Wouldn't you know after not a single mouse in this house so far this fall an awful little creature chewed through the wrap and enjoyed a quarter sized slice before I assume he was tanked and went to sleep it off.
It's war in this house. WAR I tell you. It was such a beautiful pie. Now, I start over and hope it goes as well.

I'll let you know later tonight after I attempt Pioneer Woman's Pumpkin Cheesecake with Gingersnap Crust and homemade caramel sauce. I have never made cheesecake before, or anything in a springform pan. I see a late-night dessert replacement trip to the grocery store in my future… I made a pumpkin cheesecake with ginger snap crust last night . I made the filling in the food processor instead of pulling out the mixer. As I'm pouring the filling into the pan I pulled the blade out and filling started pouring through the center hole into the water bath. I only lost about a 1/4 cup of filling, but it was such a "what was I thinking?" moment. The cheesecake looks gorgeous and I can't wait to have a piece tonight. I hope yours turns out fine too.

The worst thing so far is a big crack down the center of my pecan cheesecake. No biggie in the scheme of things!

We ran out this morning; grabbed more bread cubes, celery and whipped cream then went to get ice and then a Starbucks run... Got home and after opening up the new bread cubes, we found the other that we bought!!! Now I have 3 extra bags!!!

I ruined my rolls. I must have miscounted the cups of flour, because it's heavy. I tried to add more milk, but no. It's rising slowwwwwly right now, but I suspect we will have doorstops for rolls.

We don't eat our dinner until Friday. Today is prep day. So far I can't find the coconut. Good thing it was just a garnish and not a big deal.

My make ahead gravy isn't the same as years past! I don't want to doctor it too much because it is becoming weaker. Dern it!

Epic Fail...made PW apple dumplings and substituted sweet potato filling for the apples. Everything was going great until I went to cut the "box top for education" off the wrapper. I couldn't find one...I used garlic butter crescent rolls. They are interesting to put it mildly, they are not a dessert!

My mom and I put Tom in the wrong oven. She heated the top oven and we placed him in the lower oven. . I am short and only use the bottom to prevent burning myself. It never dawned on me she would heat the top oven. LOL. Thankfully it's just my parents and I here. We just laughed. We are only an hour and a half behind schedule.

I had to make banana pudding three times. It came out runny the first time, but I thought it was because I added too much milk. So I made it a second time and still had the same kind of goopy mess. It turns out I was using cook and serve instead of instant pudding. I finally figured that out and made it correctly the third time.

I posted on the Are You Alone Today? thread. I'm by myself today, and wasn't doing very well most of the day. Some real missing my parents (Dad died this past April) moments, and lots of pity-party moments. Then I started to cook. I got a turkey breast, cuz I'm alone. Wanted to make my stuffing, which led to tears about my mom (which always happens to me). Well, the turkey took way longer than it should have to cook. The stuffing (not stuffed, in a dish, so technically it's dressing )was overcooked. One potato makes a pathetic looking mashed potato side. The turkey was lousy - way too fatty, just didn't taste like a regular turkey. I almost completely forgot the can of cranberry sauce, so by the time I found the dish for it (of course I used the good china/crystal and made my meal for one formal in the dining room), the creamed spinach was cold. The turkey breast came with a gravy envelope - which I seasoned the way I like it, and then it boiled over, losing more than half of it into the stove. So I eat my dinner - and the clean up fairies didn't show up - and I had to clean up and put stuff away. A vase on top of the fridge fell and hit me in the head. Then, as I was putting containers in the fridge, the wine bottle started to fall - I grabbed it, but had several things poised by my arm and I couldn't move. Then I started to laugh, which was a good thing, but I was just stuck with my arm in the fridge (as I was texting my son to tell him my lousy dinner saga). Had to take the entire stove apart to clean up all the gravy. I did made a decision that life is too short - I will regularly buy burner pans for my stove rather than scouring them. So, my lessons: I was lousy company, even for myself. I should be a better guest. It doesn't matter what happens, if you have a sense of humor, its gets better, it really does. I am thankful for my sense of humor. Happy Thanksgiving!

The meringue on my coconut cream pie caught on fire because I forgot about it. It was the only thing my dh really wanted today.
