Dh and I finally bought a king mattress last week. All I can say is YAHOO!!!!! and I can't wait for it to arrive because I feel like the two of us in our queen bed is a gong show of sleepless nights - not in a good way We've been reluctant to change to a king because we love our bedroom set. I'm still not ready to give up our 4 poster bed but I just can't cope with the sleeping anymore (I'm the one who usually ends up on the couch because I feel like Dh is sleeping right next to my ear). So, we've been looking for a new bed frame. We currently have a headboard / footboard. Many beds I've been looking at have only a headboard. They say you can get the bed with a footboard but that it isn't popular anymore. Do you have a footboard? Like it? Hate it? When I look at a bed with a footboard I like the finished look of it. Without a footboard it looks like dh will give one kick to the duvet and it will all slip down onto the ground. I'm told I could put a bench at the foot of the bed but space is limited for us. We have room for a footboard, I don't think we have room for a bench. Rather - we could use a bench if we had it but I don't know I'd buy one. Anyway, footboard - yay or nay?

Nay on the foot board. We have a headboard with a leather backing and a matching leather bench seat at the foot of the bed. We store extra blankets inside of that and I usually set my clothes for the next day on that bench.

We have a footboard but our bed is only a Queen ... It kind of sucks for dh because he is 6'3" so he has to poke his legs off the edge if he wants to stretch out

We don't have a footboard, I wanted one because I thought it might cut down on the bed movements (my husband loves to shake the bed I guess when he moves around at night, I'm a light sleeper). HOWEVER, we have a dog that likes to jump in bed with us sometime in the night and he comes up over the foot of the bed. Since he rules the house, we'll probably not get a footboard anytime soon. lol

No foot board for us. I hate changing the sheets (tucking in) with a foot board.

I like the look but we are always banging into the footboard. Not sure if it is the specific style of ours or what, but it is literally a pain.

No footboard for us either. The way we have the bed positioned I feel like a footboard would stick out too much. Due to windows, doors, and the closet we can't put the bed anywhere else anyway. lol Plus, I like being able to sit on the end of the bed.

When I look at a bed with a footboard I like the finished look of it. I agree, but I think that probably reflects my very traditional taste in furniture. I think of no-footboard as a more modern look. It's really just personal preference - there's no right or wrong.

Nay. Though, TBH our King is set in a three-sided "box" which gives it the finished look. My pet hate is nightfrills, even the straight down, unruffled type so we had a frame built into which the lower supportive frame (under the matress) and the first third or so of the matress disappears. The fourth side is the headboard. This way I have no frills, no legs show and it looks great.

We've never had a footboard. DH is 6'5 and it would just squashe him. Now after 24 years even I look at beds with footboard and start feeling squashed. Very few beds I see in pictures have them, especially when you look at comforters.

Used to have one on our old bed. We bought our new bedroom furniture earlier this year and decided to go without the footboard and I have to say I much prefer how it looks. Makes the room seem more spacious.

I have a footboard and wish I did not. I have gotten so many bruises on my thighs over the years from getting up in the middle of the night.

We just bought a new bed this year, it's a sleigh bed, so it has a footboard. Honestly, with the style of the bed there is enough gap at the end for the blankets to not even notice. The bed wouldn't work in a smaller room due to the details taking up about 10 inches of space that may be precious space in other rooms.

We have one and love it. It makes the bed looked finished. It isn't at all in the way. We don't have a bench at the end. We have a sitting area opposite the end of the bed.

The foot of my bed is up against the wall, the head is in the middle of the room. Up against the head is the back of a dresser as a headboard. We have a flat screen on the wall at the foot, of the bed. I love the arrangement so no footboard or headboard.

I prefer a bed with footboard. But, it's a style preference.
Tucking the linens hasn't ever been a problem.

I have a footboard and love how it looks. But as for everyday use, it's kind of annoying. It's not TOO bad in terms of changing the sheets, because I can kind if slide the mattress up and down to make some space to tuck in the sheets. It winds up being a hanger for the clothing I've just removed. The cats love that (soft spot to sit), but me? Not so much.
One thing to keep in mind if you've already got your mattress--I bought my mattress and bedroom set at the same time. They recommended that I get a "low profile" mattress (or maybe it was the box spring. Something in there was a thinner version), because otherwise the top of the mattress was even with the top of the footboard and didn't look right.

I'm firmly pro footboard. We have three beds in our house and all have footboards. Headboard only looks too free form for me.

I've never had a footboard on any bed.
I guess I just don't see a point.
Also, I intensely dislike wood furniture and all "sleigh bed" style beds seem to be made of dark wood, so I wouldn't consider those anyway.

Absolutely yay. I have a headboard and a footboard. To me, beds look really incomplete without both.
I've always had both, even in childhood.

No footboard. Our room is too small for one (there's very little space between the foot of the bed and our dresser), and I like being able to sit at the end of the bed when I want to, without having to climb over a footboard.
We technically don't have a headboard either. We have a custom padded headboard that actually hangs on the wall. It's awesome and looks very simple and modern.

We have one on our bed. The kids don't have foot boards on theirs. I honestly didn't give it much thought when buying beds.

No footboard. DH and the dog would complain. I think it would be a PIA to make the bed.

At our last house, we had a huge bedroom and had a footboard and I really liked the way it looked. We moved to a house built in the 50s with a very small master bedroom. We were running into the footboard all the time. We removed the footboard and it really made the room seem larger. It is a lot easier to make the bed without the footboard, but we do often end up with blankets on the floor.
So I'm neither yay or nay, but it depends.

When the kids had twin beds, they also had footboards, but footboards would have made their queen beds look too big for their rooms.

I HATE footboards, because it makes it really hard to make the bed. We bought a new bed early this year. It has a footboard, BUT, it's only as high as the bottom of the mattress. It finishes off the bed, but does not impede on making it. I LOVE it!
