We have one on our bed. I don't have a strong preference either way, it's just the bed set we picked has one.

we have one on all our beds, but growing up i never had one. i never had a headboard, either. just a bed frame.
depends what you like. you can get a headboard pretty easily. you could get something to go with but not match your current set. if you are handy, you might be able to find something you could make to go with your set.
i think beds are easier to make without, but it is not a big deal.
i don't like poster beds for watching tv in bed.
i like the setup that someone posted with the foot of the bed at the wall and the headboard out in the middle of the room. sounds practical, but i don't think i could ever do it. too unconventional.

I have one and hate it. I hate my headboard, too.

We just bought a new bed this year, it's a sleigh bed, so it has a footboard. Honestly, with the style of the bed there is enough gap at the end for the blankets to not even notice. The bed wouldn't work in a smaller room due to the details taking up about 10 inches of space that may be precious space in other rooms. We also have a sleigh bed. I love the look of it!

No footboard. DH and the dog would complain. I think it would be a PIA to make the bed. Can I ask how? I have a bed with a footboard but used to have one without in my guest bedroom. I never noticed a different in how long it took or how hard it was to make the bed. I have a lot of back issues and even without the barrier of a footboard it's hard enough for me to put sheets on the bed. Having that close access to the mattress blocked would make it even more difficult. We bought a new mattress and headboard last year, and even though I love the wing-chair style of headboard, I chose not to get one because it would have been more stress on my back to make the bed.

Yes, I have one, and love it. It makes my bed feel more comforting and protected to me.

Used to have one when we had a queen bed and I hated that thing....I can't tell you how many times I smacked my thigh on it. Once we bought our king, NO footboard...hell, we didn't even have a headboard until just recently when I found the perfect used one on Craigslist for $30 bucks.

Definitely no footboard - not sure you can even get them unless you have something made. I don't even have a headboard!

Maybe they are not as popular where you live? There are also different kinds, as seen in my posted pic. We don't like platform beds, because our dog sleeps under our bed.

I have a king size four poster with rails that run around the top and when we moved into this house, we quit using the footboard as it just made the room feel too crowded. We still have the headboard, but we don't use the footboard or the the rails, obviously. I just got some finials at Lowe's and put them on the two headboard posts so that it doesn't look like there's something missing. It is a lot easier to make up the bed and change sheets without the footboard. If you just want to replace the headboard, they show up regularly on craigslist where I live. And it seems that in the world of interior design, matchy-matchy bedroom sets are not popular right now anyway, so feel free to get a new one and be in style!

No, for two reasons. 1) Because I'm a klutz and whenever I've had a footboard I would constantly bang into it and have bruises all over my thighs. 2) Because I'm a fidgeter, and will shake my foot against the footboard, driving DH crazy.
I don't mind the look of a footboard, though.
