One last person to buy for--my 13-year-old niece. She would like a hair straightener and some boot socks that have the cuffs above the boots. What brand of hair straightener would you recommend? (I've never needed such a thing!) And where would be a good place to find cute boot socks? Once I get these presents, I am DONE with holiday shopping except for my husband, And he's a whole other project!

I have seen the boot cuff socks at DSW.
What is your budget for a straightener?

TJ Maxx or another store like that would probably have both.

Shoe Station has cute, comfy boot socks. I would try Ulta for the straightener.

Do you need a hair dryer? Curling iron? Right now at ulta.com if you spend $49.99 or more on Hot Tools products, you can get a free tool. One of the free tool choices is this flat iron which is what I think a hair straightener is. (I don't have any experience with the brand, but I think I might have overheard the sales clerk telling a customer she liked hot tools a lot more than Chi, which is the only other brand I know.)

My DD13 likes Bed Head appliances. She has a curling wand, and flat iron (straightener), and is very happy with both.

I got my straightener at Sally's beauty supply. It's a chi knockoff and I love it. One thing to look for in a straightener for that age- if possible get one with curved plates. It makes it easier to curl with it as well. My 13 year old has been using the straightener to straighten the top part, then she twists the appliance as she gets to the end of her hair leaving her with beautiful curls at the bottom. Or if she just wants it completely straight, it is easy to do that too- just don't rotate it at the end. I'll have to check some of those places for boot socks. My girls love those! Eta: to clarify on the curved plates- the plates are still flat, but the edges are rounded rather than squared.

I second the Sallys one. Mine is the pink one and it works great! Have had it for a few years and no problem. I do have a nicer one but this one straightens my hair faster and makes it really soft!

I've gotten all my boot socks at Hallmark, all the locations around here have them and they've been on sale.
