I have a FB friend who constantly complains about her neighbors mowing their lawn at 7pm. Yesterday she posted two videos - 6:54pm lawnmower [HASH]1, 7:01pm - lawnmower 2. WTF? When is it OK to mow your lawn? Not everyone is retired. It is constant. So glad I am not her neighbor!

Would she rather have neighbors that did not mow their lawns?

I don't understand the rants against lawn mowing - as long as it's not before 7am and after 9pm - it's their right to mow their lawns whenever they wish!

I don't get the rants either.... it's summer, grass grows, it gets mowed. It gets mowed when you can do it. Not everyone has the same schedule. Heck if someone is mowing at 10 at night, I doubt it would even bother me. 6am, well that might.. lol.. all in all, I would rather see a nice mowed yard!! It just drives me bonkers to see trashy unmowed lawns.. I don't expect them to be perfect, but just keep it mowed!

Good thing she isn't our neighbor! Sometimes the only time that people have to mow their lawns are after work which is sometimes at or shortly after 7pm.
It also sounds like she is volunteering to just mow everyone's lawns for them at the time she deems appropriate. How thoughtful!

She would hate us - it's HOT here so we wait til about 8 pm to start. That, and people who work don't have the opportunity to mow when it's convenient for HER.

The only thing I can think of why she may be complaining about the time is because that's when her family eats dinner??? Agree, it is crazy to complain about a neighbor mowing their yard at 7pm. Seems like a reasonable time especially if you've been at work all day.

Is mowing that bothersome? It isn't like they are mowing daily and it takes an hour.
I don't care when you mow. I might think you were drunk if you were mowing at 2 am, but whatever.

Then she'd hate us. DH sometimes mows at 7pm or so simply because he doesn't get home until almost 6. Then we eat. And sometimes, 7:30 is when the worst of the heat has passed and the sun is not beating down on us, making the 20 minutes to mow the backyard easier.

Gosh, when does she expect people to mow?
Thankfully, we have a year service now, but before that dh would mow when he had a chance and that could be 7pm.

Good thing she is not in my area. My neighbor was mowing at 10 PM last night. I wanted to go ask if he would just scoot on over and do mine while he was at it. Did not bother me one bit!

Lol. She'd better not move to this neighborhood. A few of the older neighbors hire a company to come in and they do come in the daytime. But everyone else waits till it's cooler in the evening. Some days four or five houses might have someone mowing or weed-whacking or something. Better that than passing out from the heat. (besides that most people work during the day).

I'm not understanding the issue with 7pm at all. I don't think I'd even notice if someone was mowing at that time. It's a good time to do it because it isn't as hot and the sun isn't beating down on you. Around here you can't mow early in the morning because of the dew. So even for someone that is home all day, evening is the best time to do it. I think some people complain just to complain.

I think what is relevant is how close together the homes are and how many different neighbor homes are adjacent to her home. And, how sensitive or insensitive someone is to noise.
I am sensitive to noise and most other stimulations (sight, sound, smells).
We are in .25 acre lots but many of the homes are placed quite a bit back from the road which means in the back yard you are very close to the other homes.
We have 6 homes next to us or behind us that we can very clearly hear doing their yard work. Plus 2 homes across the street we hear as well.
Yard work around here entails using an electric/gas edger, mover then an electric/gas leaf blower (sometimes the blowers are going for at least 20 to 40 minutes).
It seems that each neighbor does their yard work on a different day so the noise seems endless.
So, yard work is one of those things that really gets on my nerves but it is mostly the circumstances I list above. It wasn't me complaining on facebook but I do grumble to myself sometimes. Especially when we are trying to enjoy eating outside (we only do that a few times a year really) and a lawn mover starts up. They can't help it and we can't help it. It just is what it is. But, sometimes stress can be relieved a bit by complaining.

Sorry but if that was the only time I could do it, too bad. Within reason, I cannot worry about how everyone else feels in the neighborhood when I have to get stuff done. There are only so many hours in the day and too much to get done. I'm not going to go out of my way to annoy you though.
My husband mowed the lawn one Saturday evening because 1)it was too hot during the day and 2) because we had other things going on the rest of the weekend (day and night) and our neighbors were having a dinner party where they were sitting on their screened in porch having dinner. While I wouldn't appreciate it being done if I was having a party, we had no choice. The lawn had to be cut. They didn't complain because they understand that we don't have a lawn service to do it in the middle of the day and we both work. Plus, we had no idea they were having a party.

It's going to be over 100 degrees today, so you get up early to mow or you wait til 7. I feel so sorry for the lawn crews mowing grass mid-day.

My neighbor who lives behind me waits until 7:30-8:00pm to mow their yard. It's loud and annoying because it interrupts my tv watching, but I don't mind. They're usually finished in 10-15 minutes, and I know they are doing it at that time so they don't swelter in the heat.

7pm - yup, that's when I'm mowing also...it's too darn hot to mow earlier in the day so we eat dinner at 630 or 7 and then I go outside and mow until it gets dark. I have a push mower and 2 acres of grass so it's most days also. Good news is that we don't have any close neighbours and I doubt they would care anyway

Because traffic congestion in our area, some people don't get home till after 6:30 and leave before six to get to their jobs, so cutting it at when they get home is sometimes their only opportunity to do so. I don't see the big deal at that hour. Now cutting it after 9 PM or before 6 AM is pushing me.

Until I joined this message board, I didn't realize how many people are bothered by lawn mowers. To me, it's just another of the sounds of summer. The birds start chirping outside my window quite early this time of year also. The neighbors sometimes laugh late at night in their backyards, or have lights shining, or have friends occasionally park in front of my house for an hour or two. I'm glad all the different sounds and changes in the world and neighbor stuff around me don't set me off. Sometimes I wonder how complainers get through each day, lol.

I don't think that is an unreasonable time, it's still light out! I would think 9pm is pushing it, but if it was a one time thing at 9, I would be ok. Stuff happens.

I'd be happy if my darned neighbors would just mow their yard. I don't care what time of day or night. I would be willing to hold the flashlight if they wanted to do it at 2am.

Me too! one of my neighbors keeps a beautiful yard. I keep mine very tidy most of the time. While our other neighbors are growing a forest or something I think they need to machete to deal with their 'lawn' (aka. weeds) at the moment. I am sure my messy neighbors dislike me going at at 8am to mow my grass, but here in GA it is too hot for me to mow later in the day.

Sounds like there's one in every crowd. I see posts from a FB friend complaining about her neighbor's lawn mowing disturbing her afternoon nap or her dinner. Doesn't seem to matter what time her neighbor mows, she complains. Maybe I should un-friend her. she is very annoying and never posts anything positive....

Some people just aren't happy unless they are complaining about something. I am in the boat of I had rather see a mowed yard than an unmowed yard. I don't care what time my neighbors mow. Most of them are retired and they mow pretty early. Sometimes it wakes me up but it doesn't bother me.
