I think I might be the only woman on planet earth who hated that book. I just couldn't get past the ridiculous writing and the shallow characters. I found myself irritated by how stupid (for lack of a better word) I felt while reading it. I stopped reading it about four chapters in. I do not understand the draw at all, and I now feel like a freak among my own sex for not liking it. lol Not alone- I didn't even attempt it. I know it's totally different but I didn't read half way through Twilight because what you describe. I feel out of sync with my kind too. ETA I didn't see so many pages of responses before I wrote. Glad to know I'm not as alone as I thought.

I haven't seen anywhere as to who the actress is who's playing Elena Lincoln. The rumors had Katie Holmes which, IMO, would be horrible. I just don't like her. Jamie Dornan is definitely a very attractive man but he just isn't what I pictured as Christian. His hair color in the trailer didn't look copper colored to me. I wonder how they combined the 3 books to make one movie. Just seems like a lot of story lines are going to be left out.

I absolutely love Jamie Dornan in other things I've seen him in (The Fall and Once Upon a Time). I feel like they are downplaying his looks somehow (his hair is weird to me) because he doesn't look as beautiful as I've seen him previously. Google images will back me up on this!

I will be in the small group of women who will under no circumstances see this movie. I finally broke down and watched "Magic Mike". It is in my top 10 worst movies ever.

I thought the 3 books were 3 movies, ala Twilight, catching fire, etc. ?

I thought the 3 books were 3 movies, ala Twilight, catching fire, etc. ? I think a lot of the public assumed the 50 Shades movies would follow in the steps of Twilight, etc...but it isn't. There's just this one movie incorporating all 3 books. That's what I'm curious about is all 3 books were incorporated into one movie.

I've only seen Jamie Dornan in The Fall (the Irish TV series) playing a serial killer with ice in his veins. I think that's one of those parts that's going to peg him for me. I doubt I'll be watching this movie. Although the trailer is hot. He creeps me out too much after The Fall.

I haven't watched the Twilight movies nor plan to watch the Fifty Shades movie(s).

Yeah, no that is not how I pictured Christian. I'll wait till I can get it from Netflix and do this while I'm watching.

So it's just one movie? That makes a lot more sense then. I could not figure out how they were going to turn a few hundred pages of sex into anything resembling a movie with a plot line. Porn yes. Theater movie? I was not so sure. I have more hope now.
I don't care for either of the actors chosen. Ian Somerhalder would have made a great Christian. He has the stare, the cold look. This guy? I dunno, he's too nice looking in the trailer. The girl for Ana looks too frumpy too. And it's not a natural frump, it looks like the wardrobe people were trying too hard for "innocent, clueless, nerdy girl". The Ana in the books is never made out to be clueless or nerdy, she has a couple parts where she is smart and doesn't take any crap. I'm not getting that vibe from the trailer. We'll have to see, but probably on HBO because I do not see myself paying for a movie ticket unless we do a funny girl's night out like we all did for Magic Mike.

I'm not familiar with Jamie Dornan but he wasn't what I pictured either. For some reason, I kept thinking that it was too bad that David Beckham isn't an actor because I could see him being a great Christian Grey. The actress that plays Anastasia was quite awkward on the Today Show this morning but I really like what I have saw of her in the trailer.

Had no idea the one movie discussion was a rumor. That's good news. I wasn't too excited about seeing the movie next year because I just thought it would be rushed. Thanks for linking the story above.

Yea, that's what I've been hearing like this latest link says. I think they talked the one movie briefly in the beginning.

I did buy the first book. But so many people at work said that it was very badly written. So I gave it to one of my dd. Never gave it another thought. That trailer does look, um .... interesting. I think I'm in.

Hmmm, someone mentioned Lee Pace. He could do it! Yum. He is a dead ringer for my first boyfriend. Alas, the boyfriend did not age well.

I read the books. They totally worked for me....as I wanted a quick and easy read. They worked even better in my husbands mind, seeing how 9 months later I gave birth to twin boys. What at made it even funnier is that our neighborhood book club had this as a pick. We are normally totally vanilla ( ) in our book club picks, but the hostess wanted to shake things up. I didn't attend, but my husband and I had to laugh. The other husbands were so excited for their wives to come home after that discussion. My husband laughed because we knew we were pregnant at that point. So if you aren't after a good piece of literature this could be a good fit And Jaime as Christian TOTALLY works for me. Anna....not so much! I hope the other trailers show her in a better light for me. Laters Babe!

Not on my read list nor on my watch list. If I want to read soft core porn, I'll read the good stuff. Not this horridly written crap.
I love the look on people's faces when I tell them I haven't read it and won't read it. You'd think I'd murdered their first born or something. It's kind of funny.
Crap will make crap... so the movie will be crap.

I read all 3 books and enjoyed them for what they were - fluff. Personally, I'm a big fan of mindless reading from time to time. I have to agree with the fact the writing quality wasn't that great but it didn't keep me from reading them.
As for the movie - I'm not 100% on the casting yet but it is so hard to tell from a trailer what an actor/actress can do with a role. For me, the whole time I was reading the books I pictured Matt Bomer as Christian. I know he is gay but who the hell cares, he is beautiful! So Christian isn't who I was envisioning but I'm holding out judgement until I see him in .... action.

I haven't seen the trailer, but saw a picture of the Christian character and I think they made a horrible choice there too. But I won't be seeing it so it doesn't matter.

I admit I loved the books so much that I read all 3 in a weekend...on my iPhone Kindle app because the books weren't out yet!
Jamie Dornan is much, much hotter with a beard. He will do good in this role though. I am looking forward to it.
