I am just fascinated with this show, I thought it had aired on a different channel before, but now its on TLC.
I tried briefly to look up information about my family on ancestry.com and I just felt super overwhelmed and I had a lot of trouble even locating anything about my family.
I kind of feel like this show is giving me tips on researching.
Anyone else watching??

Wouldn't it be fabulous to those assets to help with your genealogy. I have done a lot but there are so many brick walls. And I would soooooo love to go to the Netherlands/Germany/England to search out my family. Big sigh!

I've caught it a few times and enjoyed it every time. I should see if I can binge watch it sometime.

I suppose that I am very fortunate to have the complete family history from my dad's side (from the 1700's) and my mom's side (from the 1800's). A cousin on each side of the family (my generation) have taken over the task for the Canadian side of the families and on my dad's side in Germany, a second cousin communicates with my cousin here in Canada. My cousin has her daughter helping her and she will continue on my dad's side of the family.
My mom's side is all in Canada/USA and there is excellent communication between all the cousins. There are even the younger generation who are working with their parent to continue to make the changes/adding information.

I could have sworn that I had replied to this thread.
I love the UK version of this programme. We get the US version too, and it gives an absolutely fascinating peep at US history, of which I am woefully ignorant.

I love this show!
I really wish they would do a version with regular people though instead of celebs. I'd apply in a heartbeat!
I've tried researching my family on ancestry before but didn't get very far even with a paid membership. I found records of when one of my great grandparents passed through Ellis Island, and some census records, but nothing else.
I need to be able to travel Europe to find more!

I watch it and am jealous of the resources they have. Although it does remind me to use a broad search. I sometimes forget that researching other family members can provide information on the one I am looking at.

In this thread! 2peasrefugees.boards.net/thread/3471/genealogy-peas-who-starts-tonighti thought I was losing the plot there for a moment.

I watched the first episode this season with Cynthia Nixon. I started watching last season, I'm going to see if I can find out where to watch other episodes from other seasons. I find it really interesting, but I have to wonder if the research is done before they contact the celebrities. It just seems weird that they all have some really interesting thing in their past.

I read somewhere that they do most of the research before they get the celeb. They film it all it a couple of days in the various places.

I really love this show and also watched several episodes last night while nursing the 3rd day of a migraine. I REALLY wish I had their resources too. I know nothing about my grandfather on my mother's side except that he was a stage actor who acted in travelling plays in the Spring of 1939. My grandmother was like a groupie-they had an affair and he went on with the travelling play. We know only his stage name and that's it. I would love to find out more about him and his family and what happened to him during the war. This was in Eastern Germany. My mother was born in December of 1939 to a single mother with a very strict Catholic father and no mother (she died from cancer when my grandmother was 12). Life was hard for her during the war.
Anyway, that whole side of my family is a total mystery. I really want to find out more. We have one photograph of him that my mother has misplaced somewhere in her home. I know one day we'll find it. I'm thinking of contacting a genealogist who has experience with European searching. It would be so nice to at least know something.
So last night I watched the Cynthia Nixon story-very touching and heartbreaking. I watched some woman I don't know who is famous but was worried about her grandfather's Nazi past-she is half German and half Jewish. That was really interesting. And I also watched Sarah Jessica Parker's story-which was interesting. I caught half of Mathew Broderick's story. It was really interesting when he found out about his relative who survived the Gettysburg battle and contrasted that a character that he played in "Glory".
