We reuse our bath towels for several days before we wash them. In the past we have each had a towel bar that we hung our towel on after use. We've now done some remodeling and we don't have room for two towel bars so I suggested we buy hooks and put up. They take up less space and are more "modern". He absolutely refuses to hear of it. He says the towel won't dry out from one day to the next if we use a hook. He wants to mount one bar over the other meaning the top bar is going to be ridiculously high. Any users of hooks out there, do the towels get dry?

I use hooks for towels in all our bathrooms and have never had any still damp the next day-they take up less room than towel bars and I think they look nicer, too.

I have hooks in both of my bathrooms and I love them. The towels dry just as well, if not better, than on a bar. I like the hooks because my family members can never fold the towels nicely on the bars, they always looked wonky.

I agree that hooks are a good idea and are more currently trendy. Instead of permanent hooks drilled into the wall, you could compromise by hanging a hook rack over your bathroom or closet door. We have two closet doors in our bathroom (his and hers) and each door has hanging hooks that slide over the top of the door. You can buy one hook or multiple hooks. It really increases the space available to hang stuff like nightgowns, bathrobes and towels.
Men are so funny sometimes when they decide to get stubborn about things!

My husband is like yours. We have hoops to hang towels in, but he insists on hanging his towel over the shower rod, "So it will dry." My towel dries just fine in its hoop.

towel bars for me. never hooks. I want the towels to dry more quickly and thoroughly. the less bunched up areas there are, the less prolonged wet/damp areas. I just feel that bars are more conducive to that than hooks.

My towel goes on a hook and it dries fast.

Thanks Laura, good idea, hooks on a towel bar, that way he can try it out and see that he is wrong ;0)

We have hooks as well. I have to admit I was a bit worried about that too because I grew up with towel bars.
However, I've never had any issues with wet or damp towels - only if you are using it hours after you had just previously used it.

I've used hooks in the past, and unless I readjusted the towel as it dried, it wouldn't get dry all the way. The bottom always seemed to get dry more quickly because it was more spread out. The top part that hung on the hook was all bunched up and stayed damp. So before I went to bed, I'd flip the towel over so now the bottom was on the hook. By morning it would be fine.

buy a towel bar that has both hooks and a bar (and even a shelf). Boom, now everyone is happy.

I know you prefer hooks but if you can't get hubby on board with that, you can get a double towel bar. We have one very similar to what GypsyGirl posted. It works really well in our bathroom.

We have a double towel bar for dh and me. DS has his own single one. I agree with your dh about the hooks, and not drying.

We have hooks and a bar. The towels on the hooks dry just fine. The bar usually only gets used for wet swimsuits.

I like the look of hooks, but if I were to guess, I would have guessed that towels would dry better on a bar, too. I would have figured the towel would be spread out more and have more air circulation.

It depends on where you live. We used to have hooks, looked great, no problems. Next house was humid climate, had to go with bars , the bunches up parts on a hook didnt always dry.
We've done two bars on narrow wall, it worked fine with one at about 65", the other at 32". We're 5-5 and 6-0 tall.
Each looked ok design wise.

If you have humidity, don't use the stacked bar shown in photo above. Although it looks great, even a small hand towel on outer bar prevents the rear one from airing out.
Again, not a problem in some climates, but surely a concern if he's anti hook.

I think it will depend (1) on your climate and (2) on your air circulation in the bathroom. All you can do is try it. However, I would strongly suggest NOT using Command Hooks. We've had two instances where they have come off and damaged the wall.

Our bathroom doesn't really have wall space for a towel bar that is easily reachable from the shower, and the shower doesn't have a door on it, so we have hooks. The towels do not dry as well as on a bar. But we live in a very humid area and I think that has more to do with it than how the towels are hung.
You could get some command hooks and put them temporarily where you would put hooks to see if it will work for you. Give it a couple of weeks.

We have hooks. The shelf with the hooks below, it's right above the vent so there's no issue.

Like someone else said, your climate and the air circulation in your bathroom will play a big part. In my previous house, the towels almost never got completely dry in a 24 hour period, even if they were spread out across a bar. There was poor air circulation and we lived in the southeast in a very humid climate. Now I live in MN, and in the winter, our towels dry very quickly on hooks. Like within a couple of hours. But in the summer, it takes much longer. They are still usually dry by the next morning, but not always.

I would love the ease of the hooks but prefer the bar. I agree, climate affects drying time. You could put up a Command hook on your bathroom door and try it for a week or two before you decide to put them on the wall. I use those Command hooks (3 lb) to hold the large Lucky 8 punches in my scrap room and they are sturdy.

We use both. Towels on the hooks dry slower than ones on a bar. It would depend on how much time you let go between uses whether they'll be dry enough. I used to use two towels, one for body and and one for my hair. The hair towel was always wetter after use and so it went on the bar. If I put it on the hook, it might not be dry when I went to use it again.
How about hang one bar for his use and hooks for you?

We use hangers and put the towels in the bedroom closet to dry (door open). This works well for us, we have enough room in the closet to make sure there is air all around. Even with the towels folded in half the long way, we have not had any issues. We are in WI, so humidity is an issue, too. Using the closet keeps the clutter out of our very small bathroom that 3 people use. I'm talking small, one person at a time in there.
