I'm replacing a sink in a rental condo and have been looking at the $100-ish stainless steel sinks. They look fine but some of the reviews say that they dent and rust quickly. I have had ours (probably more than $100) for 10+ years and it has been fine.
How has yours held up?--especially the less-expensive ones.
Thanks!!

I don't think I have ever seen a dented or rusted stainless sink. Maybe the newer ones are more poorly made (like everything now days!)

Almost every sink is stainless steel, no?

I don't know how expensive it was but the stainless steel sink in my house is 55 years old and it still looks brand new.

Some sinks are porcelain or fiberglass.

The stainless steel sink in our old house was OLD and it held up great. I can't say the same for the white undermount sink in our current house. I would get rid of it in a heartbeat if it didn't mean having to replace all of my countertops too.

I have never ever seen a stainless steel sink rusted??? That's just..weird!! We have been in our house for 22 yrs. pretty sure the sink is about 40 yrs old. No rust. But the drain plug has broke. Which sucks. I would love to get a farmers apron sink. ha

Almost every sink is stainless steel, no? No, enamel cast iron is also common. I will never go back to enamel cast iron again. They're so pretty, but more apt to chip, even with a decent brand like Kohler. Be sure you get a lined or insulated stainless steel. That makes a difference.

Five years ago we redid our kitchen. I had a very cheap 15 year old stainless sink. It looked great. I could get it shiny looking with some Comet or vinegar.
When we did the reno, I paid $299 for my new undermount sink. I have never been able to get it to shine. There is a rust mark from a soaking cookie sheet that will not come off no matter how hard I scrub or what I try. I don't have any dents, but it shows every water mark and never looks truly clean.
I've heard horror stories about fibreglass or porcelains so I would probably buy another stainless, but my expectations wouldn't be for a shiny sink.

We've been in our house over 15 years and pretty sure our sink wasn't anywhere new when we moved in. With a little elbow grease it shines up nicely. Not a dent to be found.

We put a Kohler stainless steel sink in 14 years ago and it looks brand new. It is a replacement for a porcelain or enamel (sorry, been so long can't remember) that cracked and chipped and stained within 6 months of installation. Nothing removed the stains from it. Nothing. Ripped it out and replaced it with the Kohler (which was more than $100 14 years ago) and have had zero regrets.
I have also never heard of a stainless steel sink rusting or denting. I seriously doubt you could dent our Kohler unless you hit it with a truck. That sucker was heavy.

My stainless steel sink has been in use for over 20 years. It shines up nicely. I usually clean it with a powdered stainless steel cleanser. No rust. No dents. I'd go with stainless steel again, given a choice.

How about a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser? Hmmmmm..... My kitchen sink is granite composite.

I've had stainless steel sinks for about 4 years. We didn't research them or anything-- it came along with our granite. Therefore, I'm guessing that it's cheap. It's nice and deep and a is a breeze to keep clean and looking nice. Prior to our kitchen renovation, we had an enameled cast iron sink. It was a good look, for sure. It was more effort to keep it clean, though, and ours did have some chips in it. I was more likely to chip glassware in it, too, when I did dishes by hand. Plus, my current sinks are larger. There's just more room to maneuver when washing pots and pans. Overall, I'm really happy with the stainless sink and think it was a great choice for us.

Mine wasn't a very expensive one and 22 years later it's still going strong! No dents and certainly not rusty.

In fairness, it was here when we moved in 6 years ago and I have no idea how old it is and how cheap it was. It shows water stains horribly and we do have a small rust spot that I also can't remove. I'd like to replace our counters this year and am itching to get rid of that sink. Not sure what I will replace it with - all of our appliances are stainless so I may have to go with another stainless sink.

Mine is 11 years old and other than it having scratches in the bottom, there is no rust or dents in it.

We put our stainless steel sink in, in 1984. It still looks very good....few scratches even. The plumber who installed it told us to keep a mat in the bottom and it would not scratch up--and he has been correct.
We are redoing the kitchen this spring and it looks good enough that I hate to have to purchase a new one, but hate to have one that is not pristine with all the rest of the room being new. --That is how good it still looks.
My husband said to get one that is at least 18 gauge steel.

Our bar sink in the basement is cheap. It was there when we moved in, so I don't know how much it was. But it has rust spots and it moves a bit if you drop something in it. It's a PITA. I hardly ever use it (mostly just to get water fur ironing), and when I do I try my best not to get the sink wet. Otherwise I wipe it out. Don't go too cheap! Before this, I didn't know a stainless sink could actually rust.

The stainless steel sink we just ripped out was probably circa 1978 and while the basin was in fine condition the holes at the top where a sprayer and soap dispenser sat were rusty.
We replaced it with a single basin deep stainless sink. I love the size of the sink but it came with this rack that sits in the sink, I think it is to keep the sink from getting scratched which I HATE. Food bits get stuck under the rack (yes they should be scraped in the trash, my kids don't always do this) and silverware falls between the sink and the metal grid. I'm about the throw that thing out and live with the possibility of scratches. Otherwise I've had all levels of stainless sinks and one cast iron enamel sink and prefer the stainless steel.

We had a stainless steel that was original in our house (1979). We could never get it to look clean (2000-2010). So when we put in a new kitchen in 2010, we went with granite composite. I love this sink, even though we're only 5 years in so far.
We really did not like the look of the stainless. It was not rusted or dented, but just had a cloudy look that we couldn't get to shine up.

our stainless steel sink is over 15 yrs old, and is in great shape! if people find rust, I wonder if the sink is really stainless? there could possibly be a veneer or coating that is wearing off?

Every sink that I've had in every house and apartment I've lived in from birth to now has been stainless steel. I've never had an issue with them.

I just had a high end stainless sink installed with my Quartz. They told me if I get s small scratch I can use 0004 steel wool to lightly sand out the scratch. I haven't had to try that so I don't know how well it would work. Just a suggestion.

mine is white fibreglass, because I don't like the look of stainless when its dirty or scratched or water spotted
mine is super simple to keep clean, just wash out with soap & water regularly (especially if rinsing anything tomato based) and every other week I fill it to soak with a bit of bleach in the water
I've had it 15 years & it still looks fairly new, aside from a few scratches
