Old time to me means older than my father--Tom Selleck is 71 and totally dreamy. Agree!! I was thinking Jack Nicholson, he has that bad boy image. I am drawn to that!! I have always been out of the norm!!

Cary Grant. I've also always been partial to Bing Crosby (if I forget the rumors about him being abusive to his children. And his *ahem* large ears.)

Since we're listing "young" older stars such as Paul Newman and Tom Selleck, I'm going to mention Sam Elliott. I could watch "Roadhouse" and "Mask" all day long.

I want to like your post, but then I can't because my cousin looks like Sam Elliot. He is handsome, but I can't think of him as dreamy. Feels icky.

Many of the above, but the young William Shatner, The young James Garner, Robert Redford, Sam Elliot, Tom Skerritt, and others come to mind. But I had a mad crush on Johnny Carson when I was about 9. I stayed up to watch. He was so funny and handsome. No accounting for a child's taste

Jimmy Stewart will always be my man. Love his voice, his tallness, his lankiness, his smirk, he was perfect. I love that he was pretty perfect in real life too.
I also love Der Bingle and his jauntily angled hats and his beautiful voice.
Laurence Olivier was pretty easy on the eyes too. Especially as Maxim from Rebecca.
Jimmy Stewart will always be my absolute favorite though.

Gregory Peck. Why? Just look at him. My father knew him through the service. The pecks hosted soldiers . The pecks kept in touch with several GIs after the war.

I don't know why we are still discussing this. The winner is clearly Cary Grant. That man had it all and then some.

Sean Connery could just talk to me and I'd swoon. And he aged pretty well, I might add. Haha, his tiny little swim trunks in Blue Hawaii have to be seen to be believed. He was so fine! Love that movie! Watch it every time it comes on. And you're right. Definitely fine. While I wouldn't consider Paul Newman 'old time' (yes, I'm showing my age), he's high up there for me, too.

Paul Newman. Sigh. Cool Hand Luke. Bigger sigh.
but Clark Gable, Jimmy Stewart - they are good too.
Not old enough to be considered old-time - but OMG, Tom Selleck.
Ahh.

Gosh, can I just say "all of the above?" I really can't pick just one, there's too many.
Ones I'd add; Burt Lancaster Robert Montgomery Dick Powell Spencer Tracy (most would say not in the traditional sense, but he has that "smoldering" look, I'd call it.) Frederic March William Holden
I think I'd add a young Frank Sinatra in there, too.

Clint Eastwood. I can't believe no one has mentioned him yet. I keep thinking if I watch Bridges of Madison County enough times the ending will change.

Way too hard- for the "classic" movie stars of the 30s and 40s and 50s, it would be Cary Grant, Clark Gable, Gregory Peck. For the later classic stars of the 60s and 70s, I'd go with Paul Newman, James Garner and maybe Tom Selleck. But the all-time winners for me are Gene Kelly and James Stewart. I met Jimmy in the early 80s and I was so tongue tied I just blurted out something stupid about how tall he was. I could have kicked myself for not having a mature discussion with him as we rode up an elevator alone together!

Cary Grant. I just can't take my eyes off of him when he is on. I especially like him in The Bishop's Wife.

For 40s/50s I'd have to say Jimmy Stewart and Cary Grant, plus Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly for dancing actors. I'm a sucker for a great dancer.

I have always had a crush on Jimmy Stewart. A wonderful actor. Handsome, but not in a flashy way. Tall, lanky, and kind. He was a real hero in WWII, and married to the same woman for 44 years. A close second would be Clark Gable. I always loved "Gone with the Wind" but a special memory for me is when I was a freshman in college they showed it in a big auditorium (I had only ever seen it on TV.) When Scarlett was coming down the stairs at Twelve Oaks, and gets her first glimpse of Rhett Butler. The entire audience of teenage girls all sighed in unison, as if we rehearsed it, LOL. So who is your "Golden Age of Hollywood" crush? Oh gosh, Clark Gable is mine too! Years ago I saw it aired down in Hollywood and that same scene at the bbq, when Rhett looks up admiringly at Scarlett, the entire audience went nuts! Oh..so great. That man. Sexy..sexy.

Yeah, all of the above are dreamy town residents. But I still think Spencer Tracy was such a manly man!
