I decided to participate in our weekly New Recipe Challenge thread this year that AussieMeg is running. It has been great motivation! One of the things that has happened is that most of the new recipes I've been trying have been for my electric pressure cookers - yes, I have 2 a 6 at and a 8 qt. I want to cut down on the number of physical appliances I have in my kitchen (in my case this a huge problem), and the new electric pressure cookers are actually multi-cookers, being able to cook rice, slow cook, and some even have yogurt cycles. This past week I have used mine to do things I've never done in s pressure cooker before - make yogurt and make a New York cheesecake. I would love motivation to keep using them and not regret the fact that I donated all my slow cookers - except my ninja 4-1 - this week. I really am leaning towards donating my rice cooker too. So, this is all to ask- is there any interest in my starting a weekly pressure cooker thread? Would people be willing to try to post something they have made and how it turned out every two weeks or so? I know that I will continue to try to use mine several times a week, so might post more often, but don't want to just talk to myself, so won't be upset if there isn't interest. Please just let me know!

See, in my current state of mind I'm thinking of this as a "what's making you angry this week?" thread. LOLOL! But you're probably talking about food...

I would be interested as I literally have no idea where to start. I don't want to send mine back unused but am at a complete loss- I only bought it because of reading various things in here, however having not saved the particular posts I now can't remember why I bought it!

Totally. I have one in my Amazon cart that I need to purchase.
I am looking forward to getting rid of all my other appliances. I figure I can lose the rice cooker, slow cooker, regular pressure cooker, steamer and yogurt tub. In condo living, my cupboard space is at a premium.
My friend raves about the Instant Pot so I was going to get that one? Anyone else have a suggestion for one?

I've had my electric pressure cooker for a bit over a year and really love it. My newest toy is a cast iron skillet, so I've been having fun with that since Christmas. There's a pressure cooker facebook page where one can post recipes or questions, too. Here's a link to it. If you want to join but need an invite, let me know. I've found a lot of free e-books on Amazon for pressure cooking, too. My favorite (really quick and easy) recipe to make is chicken and potatoes. It goes from frozen chicken breasts to cooked in just a few minutes. (Disclaimer- I made the recipe as is, but the gravy took too long and didn't have much flavor, so I make my homemade cream of chicken soup for the gravy instead.) - Here's the link for that.
I'd love a regular thread for pressure cooking!

See, in my current state of mind I'm thinking of this as a "what's making you angry this week?" thread. LOLOL! But you're probably talking about food... LOL! I bet that there would also be interest in a what's making you angry weekly thread - probably more than a cooking thread! Yes! I've only had mine since Christmas so I'm still learning and trying new recipes. Yay! Good. I hope that you are enjoying it. I would be interested as I literally have no idea where to start. I don't want to send mine back unused but am at a complete loss- I only bought it because of reading various things in here, however having not saved the particular posts I now can't remember why I bought it! Sue, take that baby out of the box. My goal is to have you use it at least once this weekend! What type do you have? What are you interested in making? We can even start with something basic like rice or hard boiled eggs. I've recently bought an Instant Pot, so yes please! Instant Pot is a great multi-cooker! What types of recipes are you interested in? I wish we had a ninja 4in1 thread! Haven't advanced to a pressure cooker-yet. If you start one, I will participate! Totally. I figure I can lose the rice cooker, slow cooker, regular pressure cooker, steamer and yogurt tub. In condo living, my cupboard space is at a premium. My friend raves about the Instant Pot so I was going to get that one? Anyone else have a suggestion for one? I hear you! If felt so good to finally clear out my crock pots - I had 3 of them. I think that Instant Pot is a great one. If you have a family, be sure to get the 6 qt. if it is just you, or you and a spouse, 5 qt might be big enough. I've had my pressure cooker for a bit over a year and really love it. My newest toy is a cast iron skillet, so I've been having fun with that since Christmas. There's a pressure cooker facebook page where one can post recipes or questions, too. I am glad that you are having fun with your cast iron skillet. Isn't it fun to learn how to use a kitchen tool to the best of its ability?

ME!!!!!! I just got from HSN the Elite Bistro 8qt 16-Function Electronic Pressure Cooker with Racks, Tongs and Lid. I used it once so far to make spare ribs in 18 minutes. WOW Ribs are on sale this week, so I'm hoping to try them in my Instant Pot! I would be interested as I literally have no idea where to start. I don't want to send mine back unused but am at a complete loss- I only bought it because of reading various things in here, however having not saved the particular posts I now can't remember why I bought it! My first recipe was steel cut oats. OMG, so good and quick!! If you have an Instant Pot, I use the one that came in the recipe book with it. I only use almond milk, cinnamon and vanilla. A double batch lasts us all week and we just reheat in microwave. Hard boiled eggs are really easy too. If you eat those, then I'll share the recipe that worked for me. I still haven't tried converting a normal recipe to the Instant Pot, but have found a few easy to follow recipes that we really liked. Still lots of recipes on my want-to-try-list too.

OH you know I'm in, Elaine! Mine is slated to be delivered tomorrow..so I'm there with you! I'm busily looking on Pinterest and pinning recipes and gonna make a shopping list, heh. I love new toys! I'm really curious to see how it cooks steamed rice. I bought one of those fancy Zoshiroshi (sp?) rice cookers because we eat so much rice, but I'm not thrilled with how long it takes, my gosh, sometimes up to 45 minutes! Crazy! I'm really mad I spent all that money on it a couple of years ago. So yeah, I'm over the crock pot, and the Zoshi if this new all in one tool does the trick. I'd love a weekly thread, so yes, count me in!

I'd love a weekly thread, so yes, count me in! Yeah, we have a zojirushi rice cooker too. But we've had this one for 6 years or so, and use it several times a week at least, so if I donate it, I think we've gotten our money out of it. You will still need rice to serve with many dishes, so if you only have one multi-cooker, you'll have to buy a second cooking pot - they are easy to purchase for instant pot machines - and you can cook rice quickly after you finish cooking your main course. Since I have 2 cookers now, not just two pots for one machine, I really can get rid of the rice cooker. ds and I just finished off that lentil, chickpea and rice soup for lunch (we don't have school today) - it was so good! It uses caraway seeds as its main seasoning, which works well surprisingly, and there was even more flavor in the soup after a couple of days.

Could we do a combo? It would let us read about. advantages of each. Will do! I will start a combo thread each week starting on Sundays. You can post what you made the previous week, or post during the week as you are making and trying recipes - whatever works for you. And, of course, post questions and pleas for help. To the best of my ability, I will try to keep updating the first post each week to include the names of the recipes in that week's thread, so that if you want to find a particular recipe but can't remember which thread it was in, you can look at the list in my first post and then find the recipe or link down in the thread.

I'm interested. Not sure if I'll have new things to share every week but I will enjoy reading it. I have an 8 qt electric cooker that I got about 2 years ago. I use it a lot, but usually for the same things. It might be nice to add some variety

The good thing about QVC is that you have 30 days to return it, even if you use it. How long do you have left to play with it before you have to decide? Although, I think that once you start using it, you'll keep it.

I would be interested!!! I got one of the ones that Sam's had on their pre-Black Friday sale and finally broke it out and used it this past weekend. I made a really delicious and easy meatloaf on Sunday and then a simple beef stew on Monday. I would love to hear about this cheesecake making!!! I made my daughter a Nutella cheesecake to go with the meatloaf. My family loves cheesecake and I would love to know how to make them in my pressure cooker. Thanks for starting this thread!!! I look forward to sharing and learning new recipes. Here's the web page for the meatloaf I made: www.pressurecookingtoday.com/bbq-bacon-meatloaf/

I am very interested also! I have been looking at the multi use Slo Pots Breville Slo Pot and Fagor Lux MulticookerI remember from a thread on canning chicken that you said that you need a pressure canner, and most pressure cookers don't have that feature, so I was wondering if there was a multi use machine that would also do pressure canning, or if that was an entirely different machine. I used to use my mom's old timey heavy pressure cooker with the round gauge you put on top. It would rattle around and make a bunch of noise and was really scary. I once had a close call and almost blew up the pressure cooker, the kitchen and me. My mom got one of the newer cookers, but it was too much like the old one, and I don't like it. I really love how much you can cook in a pressure cooker, and I'm excited about getting one of the new computerized ones that can be left on the counter to do it's thing like a crock pot. My mom and grandmother would cook a whole chicken and then make chicken and dumplins in the pressure cooker, and my grandmother also made her delicious beef vegetable soup much more quickly in the pressure cooker. I can't wait to get more recipes to try. I also want to try making yogurt and rice.

M in Carolina, my 8 qt cooker is a Fagor Lux. I also have a second pot - uncoated stainless - and a glass top for slow cooking on their way to me. Unfortunately, the only electric pressure cooker that is safe for canning is the one that Ball makes. It sells for $299, and is not a multicooker. If you want to can, you have to go with that model or buy a stovetop pressure canner. The bonus is that you can also pressure cook in a stovetop pressure canner, but it isn't set-and-forget like the electric ones. You have to constantly monitor the pressure level and adjust your heat source to keep it consistent. I don't regret my pressure canner, but since I really only use it in the summer for fruits and veggies, it is down in storage in the basement until I need it - it doesn't live in my kitchen. If if you have any questions about the Fagor, please ask!

I have one of the ones that makes yogurt, though I haven't tried that function yet. I keep buying cream cheese with the intention of trying a cheesecake but haven't done that yet either! Have you tried making hard boiled eggs in yours yet? I haven't perfected it yet, but it's pretty cool!

If if you have any questions about the Fagor, please ask! I do, why did you choose that one over others, besides the larger size? I chose that one solely because I wanted a cooker that could do yogurt (since my 6 qt one doesn't) AND was 8 qt, since I already had a 6 qt cooker and wanted a larger one because my teenage boys are bottomless pits. Otherwise, for the 6 qt size, if I get another one someday (maybe birthday), it would be an Instant Pot 7-1 - I really like the stainless steel pot - Teflon peels too easily. It gets fabulous reviews. And I'd probably spring for the smart version that you can program with your phone/iPad. It will allow you to upgrade the electronic programming of the actual machine as new stuff becomes available.
