to turn in my scrapbooking membership card. I'm just not into it anymore. I wanna be, but over time the desire has lessened and lessened. When I think about the mess of pictures we have; i.e., on this computer, or that computer, this phone and that phone, etc., it's overwhelming just thinking about getting it all together. I also think as the kids are getting older, there just aren't as many things we capture. We take pictures of important things like birthdays, and holidays. But the everyday stuff just doesn't jump out at me anymore to snap a picture of. Also, I used to love watching process videos, following scrappy blogs, etc., I don't even do that anymore. None of them. I actually cleared out my "subscribe" tab on YouTube. So my plan is to keep any and all kits I have together like from Hip Kit, Scraptastic, collection kits, etc. I'm not gonna get rid of those yet, in case I change my mind down the road. And I definitely won't be getting rid of my tools yet. Did that once, and seriously regretted it. So I'll be hanging onto my punches, etc. But my stamps...I think I'm gonna seriously weed those suckers out. Stamps that have a coordinating die I might keep, and I love the phrase stamps. The others, well, I just might start selling them off. So, there's my sad declaration for today.

Say it's not so!
I totally understand. I am not trying to do my own kids/older photos. I scrap mostly about my grandchildren, in books for them.

I know...I'm actually sad about it. But it's been weighing on me, and I've been going down to play with my Silhouette, and staring at all the scrapping supplies on the shelves that just go unused--I have to be real about it. They're not getting used, and aren't going to be. I have to fess up here-I have not used ONE of my AE Story kits, not one! I believe I started the stamps from the beginning, and then the Story Kit after the first one or two, and nothing--nada. I think they're great, but I just haven't used them. I knew after December's kit I was going to cancel, with the thought I'd use what I have. But I haven't, and I don't have any desire. It's stuff like that that's just taking up space and actually makes me feel guilty. Oh, and the Thickers--yikes. Ahhhh....

If it doesn't bring you joy, let it go. I think your plan to keep the kits only is a good one.
Stuff shouldn't make you sad!

But...I've been laughing about that old guy in the Walmart bag for years. This makes me sad. Do hold on to your stuff. You might change your mind. I took a 3-4 year break from scrapping and came back to it. During those years I had no desire to scrap. I'd look at my supplies and groan, yawn, and walk away. Honestly, though, for some people I would imagine it's better to just make the decision and move on instead of letting it bother you or cause you to feel guilt or whatever.

Oh, me and my Wal-Mart man aren't going anywhere, lol. And I do come here several times a day and read, I just haven't been participating much anymore cause I really don't have much to contribute. I do enjoy reading the threads, and following the SC drama . I'm not giving up all hope yet. I'm not ready to get rid of it all, because it might come back at some point, I agree.

Do what works for you! I got tired of making pages so I switched to mostly using divided sheet protectors. I'm liking it okay, but don't know if I'll do it forever.

I get it too and I think you have a good plan. It's been an up and down hobby for me as well, especially during busy periods at work. I consider everything from photo organization to journaling to fall into the category of 'scrapbooking' for me, though, so I've tried to keep doing something, even when I wasn't doing everything. I'm glad you're not leaving us!

Do you listen to The Scrap Gals podcast? If not, the most recent three episodes might interest you.
And PS...you don't actually have to scrapbook to hang out here and call yourself a "scrapbookers". It's in the rules. Once a scrapbooker...always a scrapbooker.

Oh, and I am still playing with my Silhouette. I was on here last weekend asking for help and as usual the Refupeas come thru! I guess I do have a new little crafty obsession--learning to make stickers for my planner. Yup--I'm becoming a planner junky, lol. I don't think I'll ever get over my love for pretty things, whether it's on a SB page or stuck down in a planner.

I think it's normal for our interests to change and evolve throughout life. It's definitely ok to move on to other things.

I've tried other scrapbook podcasts and didn't enjoy them, but I LOVE the Scrap Gals. They're hilarious and I like that they have different personalities and can agree on some things and disagree on others. I especially enjoyed the ones Skipping stones mentioned. They were about why some scrappers have stopped scrapping and what could motivate them to get back into it. You can find them here.

Elsabelle - thanks for the link! I've read here about the podcasts, but never actually went looking for it. Some of the topics do definitely seem right up my alley. I'll give them a go!

I agree with those who's say if it doesn't bring you joy to just let it go. It's meant to be fun not guilt inducing. Pack up, give away, or sell whatever doesn't make you happy. If you come back one day and want to play again that's great but if not that's ok too.

Awww, bummer. But I kind of understand. I went from traditional paper to digi in 2009. I haven't made a digi page in a while (nine months? a year?). I got bogged down with all the photos to choose from - 1,500 from an Alaska trip, 2,500 from a Mediterranean cruise and Rome trip, another 1,200 from a second Alaska trip, 800 from a road trip and so on. It's too much. But the bonus with digi is it only takes up hard drive space and not physical space. So I don't feel like I'm wasting space. And the papers and kits are re-useable so I don't feel like I've wasted money.
Before I started scrapping I made cards, and I'm back into that now. So I'm still doing something with paper. I'm hoping my scappy mojo comes back.

Dealing with pictures - editing, uploading, ordering - has always been the biggest pain in my backside. Listening to the Scrap Gals while doing all of it has totally changed that for me. An hour goes by and I've learned something new, laughed, and gotten some pictures under control.

I was in your shoes a few years ago. But I really missed doing something crafty with my hands. I started making cards. It was quick satisfaction and I used a lot of similar products that I had on hand. Plus it's so much less stressful and overwhelming. Maybe you can give that a try.

I had a moment like that last week. Where I looked at my LO and realized that every. single. layout. was the same thing. Layer papers and pretty things for...why again? And so many supplies...
So I had my moment where I thought I was done, but then realized that I just had to stop feeling overwhelmed by the "whole" of scrapbooking - ALL the supplies, ALL The albums, ALL the pictures... and just enjoy taking ONE moment and recording it. That it didn't have to be perfect. There was no goal really. That each process could be the same and that was still OK. So my crisis ended(thank goodness. What would my supplies do?)
But yeah, I hear what you are saying!

Ha ha, I want to make some stickers with my cutter too! Like you mentioned earlier, it's good that you're not getting rid of everything lock, stock and barrel right away. I've known several people who were really into stamping or scrapping, got burned out and pretty much dumped everything. Then a few years down the road they regretted it, missed doing it and had to buy all of their tools and stuff all over again.

Sorry your not "feeling it" for scrapbooking right now. Hope that will change for you, but glad you're enjoying your planner. Can't you use some of your stamps and supplies there?

Although I'm no longer scrapbooking, I admit to listening to scrapbooking podcasts while I make cards.
Do what makes you happy. You may get your creative fix from playing with stickers, stamps and washi tape in your planner. It's all good.

I support your decision, but I am sorry it is making you feel sad rather than liberated. I think your plan is a good one. I quit scrapping once and got rid of everything except my guillotine trimmer, good scissors, and just a couple other things. I came back to it later and didn't regret what I got rid of at all. I then did a kit club for a couple/few years and enjoyed it at the time, but did accumulate some stuff I wouldn't have bought otherwise. I like a small stash and regularly purge, so I easily got rid of the stuff I wasn't using. I spent last year feeling like the last of my interest in regular scrapping died off. I'm okay with that. This year I am only keeping a weekly PL album and I am staying very simple with the process. Out of my small stash, I pulled together a tiny amount of stuff to work with. It is easy to quickly pull out and use. My family and I really love having the album at the end of the year, so that is why I am still doing it. And I am enjoying doing the one spread a week because it is simple and I like the end result. I can always change my mind and do more at any point, but I am satisfied right now. One consideration for me is I am very minimalist by nature and I found myself asking how many albums do I want to end up with filled with a whole lot of product? Right now I have 23 8.5x11 albums, 22 12x12 albums, 1 mini album, and 2 small DD albums. I actually could see myself moving toward an even simpler approach with just doing photobooks in the future. I don't like digital scrapping in the sense of trying to make the page look like it has 3D elements on it when it doesn't, but I could go with a more graphic design approach. I do really, really like having my photos in books I can grab off the shelf. Anyway, don't be sad. Find what makes you happy and meets your end goal. Having your photos on your computer might be enough for you. If not, you will find what makes you happy, I'm sure.

I go to crops a lot and it seems all of them there are people getting rid of their stamps. Even the stamp vendors have mostly stuff other than stamps. I know they are still popular, don't get me wrong, but it seems like the kind of item that people feel takes up a lot of room and only a few really get used.
Someone on Freecycle asked for scrapbook paper, stamps, punches, cricut and sizzix. I told her I could give her paper and asked what themes she was wanting. It used to be that if someone needed supplies I could just fill a bag, but now having so much stuff I need more direction. Do you want Florals? Stripes? Pastels? Give me some specifics!
I love the idea of digital scrapping and having photo books printed but with all the scrap stuff I have I feel like I would just be leaving a hobby I love and changing course for no good reason. I think it is really good if you are able to downsize to a point where you feel comfortable and maybe you will even feel inspired to use what you keep!
