It came through my Facebook feed from two different stampin up big-time (long-term) demonstrators. It was the exact same message. I love stampin up. Always have. Even though they have never supported Scrapbooking to the extent that they support card-making. I was a demonstrator for a little more than a year. I've never heard them disparage Scrapbooking directly (until this). I am glad to see that they are offering a leather like binder with the project life line. I should have read the whole thread before posting. I would have been tempted to say I LOVE traditional scrapping. Years ago I was huge into stamping. Realized it was a total waste of time, way too messy, etc... Now I have time to focus on creating memories by using the basics; paper, adhesive, photos, sheet protectors and I'm done! Would have been fun to poke at the person that couldn't bother to post they were a SU! demonstrator. I'm confused by your post. The people who posted the ad are Stampin Up demonstrators. The names of their pages show that.

Now I understand. (Thank you.)
These are demonstrators with huge down line teams and customer bases. The pages are for customers and down lines and it's all Stampin' Up! Related stuff.

Even without the chance of insulting people, those portions are just so negative sounding. If you removed those portions and read the ad, it sounded good. memory keeping that is quick & easy, not messy, not expensive, yet still results in beautiful albums. I am sure even the dreaded scrapbookers may have been interested in checking it out.

I see it more as " Facebook spam" I see it but I don't pay much attention.........I figure each distributor has a different method... I met my first SU distributor here and she is really nice, so that means more to me .....I'm a simple gal!!!

I get the mssage they are trying to put forth, but I feel like it was said very poorly and could absolutely be hurtful to scrapbookers. Stampin' Up was my segway into scrapbooking, I wasn't a card maker or a stamper but I found a meetup group and these ladies welcomed me with open arms even though I was in my 20s and a scrapbooker so it's sad to see a message like that which may turn people off.
Project Life is so easily marketed towards non-scrapbookers, it's something that I love about Project Life, but you don't have to bash anyone in the process. It's poor marketing and would make it so if that was my SU consultant, I'd think twice, I don't want to give my money to someone who belittles the thing I love.

Yeah, to me it felt a bit condescending...

I'm not insulted, but do feel they could have worded it differently. And really, I do find that the attitude that gets put out there that traditional scrapping isn't "cool" is part of why it's not as popular as it was.

I doubt that scrap bookers are that thin skinned.

I believe I get to choose what I want to spend my time on...if I choose to work for three hours or three days on one page, that's my business. Quality over quantity.

I don't care if it's cool either--I'm just saying that they throw out the attitude that it's nerdy or stupid, which keeps new people from wanting to start scrapping, or makes some people embarrassed to say that they do it.

It could have been better worded but I'm not insulted. I think it's sad they feel the need to put down trad scrapping to build interest in their PL range. And they sell the traditional stuff so, by rubbishing traditional scrapping, aren't they kind of shooting themselves in the foot?

I thought of this thread when I looked at Ali's new site. Unfortunately I can't find the paragraph again to post it here In describing her new venture Ali said it's designed for person starting one special album, or another with rows of completed books. It was very gracious, unlike the SU post that disturbs many. Did anyone else read it?

Wow...I find it insulting. But my sister considers it a hobby for trailer trash. She doesn't realize I need a trailer to store all my stash!

I've never cared about what other people think, I do the things I like and that make me happy. I could be spending my time and money at the mall, at the casino or at the bar, but I don't. If other people enjoy those things, great, but I'd rather do something more creative, positive and constructive. It's really too bad that more people don't appreciate it for what it truly is, which is tangibly documenting one's family history. Unfortunately most people don't realize that fact until it's too late. You never see mourners paging through someone's Facebook timeline at their funeral!

I thought it sounded negative and don't think it was smart. Was I insulted nope. I used to buy a lot of stamping up stamps before I discovered CTMH. I love that they (CTMH) embrace all aspects of paper crafting including project life and home decor. I started as a cardmaker but now scrap and make cards. There is no reason for a company to insult anyone. Yes there are burnt out scrapers but to insult people isn't necessary to sell products. Some traditional scrap bookers will buy PL supplies. Simply stating the positive that is a faster way to document your memories would have been enough. You catch more bees with honey is my way of thinking.

Not insulted but marketing needs work (sounds like a spam message or as seen on tv type). Also a copy editor is a must. Too many fragments and run on sentences looks unprofessional for a company.

Not insulted and definitely not intrigued. It's poorly written but I've seen much, much worse. She might do better by promoting what she has to offer rather than describing who she sees as potential customers.
