I need a dress for an event in April and found a dress I liked on their site (I've never shopped online or in store with them before). I ordered on February 10, got confirmation of my order, but never received confirmation of shipping (and yes I checked my spam folder). So this morning I went to their site to contact CS and saw they're having a 25% off sale. I used their online chat and the CS rep said my order is due for delivery today via the USPS, yay!
Then I asked her if they would adjust my order to reflect the sale price and free shipping that they're currently offering. She said no, they will not do that. Boo hiss! Needless to say I won't be shopping with them ever again.
So I'm curious to what, if anything you would do? Could I refuse delivery of this order and place a new order at the sale price? Or....? It's a decent chunk of change, otherwise I wouldn't pursue it.
Your thoughts? Thanks!

That is kinda rude CS if you ask me... I would return it and re-buy it, I guess. I would make sure they still had it in stock. Or try to call CS back and explain the situation.. you might be a better rep on the phone???

My opinion of that store is super, ridiculously over priced for very common, not special clothes, with a snobby sales staff.

I know some places have a policy that they'll honor a sale price within a time frame, but ten days is a long time to expect that in my opinion. If it was a couple days after the order I would hope they would, but at this point I wouldn't.
You could refuse shipment and reorder, but you run the risk of it not being is stock.

That's poor customer service. I'd return it and shop elsewhere. But I tend towards spiteful with things like that.

I would order it at the sale price and then I would return the first one UNLESS they don't have free returns--in which case I would have to figure out if it was worst the cost, time, and trouble.

Do you have a brick and mortar store nearby because you can do returns to the store. I would do that and rebuy the dress. I love WHBM! I have bought several dresses from there, and they fit great. What dress did you get?

I would call one of the local brick and mortar stores and see if they have the same dress in stock. Then I would go to that store and re-buy the dress and return the other. But, I have one of their stores 10 minutes from my house.

She hasn't even received the dress yet. IMO, in the day and age, 10 days is a long time to wait for an item to be shipped to me. I would call back and try again to see if they will give you the current discount If not, I'd check to see if the dress is in stock and reorder it. Then refuse delivery.

You are out the shipping no matter what so it's really the 25 percent off. If it is worth your time order again and return the other if you have a store or free return shipping. I have reordered things from Lands End when they went on sale, but I always have free shipping and have two stores nearby.

I would return it and order it again... but I would call and ask if they will honor the sale price first.

It's due for delivery today, so it was clearly shipped in less than ten days, and the 15th was a postal holiday.

It honestly never would have occurred to me to ask if they would honor the sale price. I guess I would've just figured that I missed the sale.
You could always order the dress at the sale price and return the one that is going to be delivered today.

You could always order the dress at the sale price and return the one that is going to be delivered today. This is where I am at. I have shopped there many times (in person and online) and it would not occur to me to try and get a discount that either just expired or one that might be coming up. If you need the discount, then wait until it goes on sale and buy it. You run the risk of not having your size, but then, that would be a benefit of paying the regular price to begin with. I guess I don't get the mentality that I am somehow owed a discount just because I bought something from them. Am I missing something?

Aren't their dresses usually $150 and up? I can't believe they don't offer free shipping as a standard for spending that much.

I guess I never expect to get a sales price unless it was there on the day I purchased an item. Is it normal to see a sale on an item a couple days after you buy it and expect the sales price to be applied retroactively after an item is bought?

Very bad customer service IMO. I would definitely call after you receive it and decide you want to keep it. Speaking to someone is much better than a chat.
I would tell them you feel the time frame would warrant the 25% off otherwise they can send you a label to return. I wouldn't think it is worth their hassle, etc. to have you return it.

Most stores will honor the sale price if you bought it or ordered it within 14 days of the sale - although some even go a little longer.
Banana Republic, anthropologie, Ann Taylor, Macy's, and Kohls all jump to my mind of stores that honor sale price if you can provide a receipt that proves you bought the item within the last 14 days.
I would compare WHBM to those stores (maybe not Kohls) so I'm a little surprised they wouldn't adjust the price. I think I'd do the buy & return thing too.

Is it normal to see a sale on an item a couple days after you buy it and expect the sales price to be applied retroactively after an item is bought? Yes I do this all the time with online purchases at stores like the LOFT or the Limited or JCrew and they give me a price adjustment. The reason they do it is to save you the hassle of walking into their store, returning the item, and rebuying it.

Thanks, I'll try calling CS in the morning and see if I have any better luck. I haven't opened the box so I could just send it back and reorder, but I'd like to avoid that hassle. I haven't ever asked for a price adjustment for an online purchase, and only did because I happened to be on live chat with them asking when my order would arrive. I truly was shocked that she said no. I didn't realize that it could be a "thing."

Your thoughts? Thanks! I don't often think of asking for price adjustments because I didn't buy during the sale. Why should I be entitled to a sale price unless I bought during the sale period? Just isn't something that necessarily makes sense to me. I think I had Amazon do a price adjustment for me once because the item I purchased dropped by $10 20 minutes after I bought it. They were kind enough to do it but I wouldn't have been irritated had they chosen not to. After all, I decided the item was worth the price it was when I bought it. In your situation the easiest way to get the result you're looking for would be to order the item now during the sale and return the one you ordered previously for a refund.

Even Walmart and Target do it, so I would certainly expect it from an expensive store like WHBM.

have you tried on the dress? if it doesn't fit or doesn't look good this becomes a moot point (and yes I hear Joey in my head when I type that... ) but I would definitely call back & ask to speak to someone who has the authority to offer the rebate

It may not be quite normal or typical for customers to do this but I have a relative that does it all the time. I mean ALL THE TIME!! She gets what she wants when she wants it, then watches for sales. She not only does this for her clothing and such but does it when buying all her Christmas gifts. She spends more money on gas running around getting adjustments or making returns and re-buying than you can imagine. It is like a game for her. I am NOT saying the OP is like this..

I'd call for sure. Really, you hadn't even received the dress yet, it's not like you've been dancing around and partying in it for a week. I've done this a few times, and CS doesn't even blink before saying "of course, let me take care of that for you."
Of course they don't owe it to her, but if they had given it to her, they wouldn't have been discussed on the internet for an entire page as being annoying. OP would have been saying how great they were. It is worth a lot to a store to not annoy customers.

I can see being disappointed, but angry? No. If it rankles you that much, repurchase the dress at the sale price and return the one you purchased at full price.

To the people who ask for adjustments, what is your time frame? This was ten days after, so is your limit two weeks? A month? How long after you buy something will you ask for an adjustment?
