He learned that you DO NOT put a pyrex measuring cup to heat something up on a stove top. Even though it does say that right on the side of the cup. He thought that would be a quicker way to heat up the gravy. You know instead of putting it inside a pot or in the microwave. If you have never heard a large Pyrex glass exploding and shooting shards of glass over your entire kitchen and dining room you have not lived.  I have no doubt I will be finding gravy in odd spots for quite some time. |

It also sounds like a good way for your feet to me finding glass. Careful! And sorry.

Been there with the exploding pyrex. It was awful trying to clean it all up and making sure the dogs didn't step on any shards.

Oh no, jeez, what a mess! I hope no one was hit by any flying glass. Ever since Pyrex changed their glass-making formula, I've been absolutely anal about temperature and Pyrex. I'm always having to remind DH not to put baking dishes on the cold granite counter. So far, so good. Watch your feet!

I'm glad no one was hurt. I had a crockpot top explode when it touched something cold once. It was like a firework. Very scary!

terrifying! I was just remembering a pyrex sauce pot that my mom used to make rice in when I was small and wishing I had one. Maybe not so much now...

Oh man, that sucks.
I had a Pyrex baking dish explode after I took it out of the oven once, and holy heck was that a nightmare to clean up. Chicken grease and glass everywhere.

Yikes! I once slaved over a meatloaf in highschool. My mom came home & thought it looked dry so she added some water. After she cleaned up the Pyrex shards we had Burger King for dinner.  |

I still have queso stains on my ceiling from the Great Christmas party Queso explosion of 2009 thanks to my dear brothers . Hope your DH didn't get hurt, it is scary when they explode  |

DD did that a few years ago trying to boil some water. I wasn't home and she was making some tea for her sick daddy. She had just turned away from looking at it when it exploded. I still have nightmares thinking about it. It is a kitchen safety thing that I never thought to talk about.

Oh that's hilarious!!!! He must have the same thought process as my dad. I pre-prepared a meal one morning in a Pyrex dish with a plastic lid and stored it in the fridge. I asked him to put it in the oven at 6pm. When I got home the dish was in the oven..... complete with the plastic lid!!!
And yes, I have experienced a Pyrex dish explosion. One day I was cooking some rice balls at my aunt's house. I took the dish out of the oven, set it down on the stove and it exploded into a gazillion pieces. Scared the crap out of me and made me very reluctant to use Pyrex again.

 Eek! You will he hoovering the shards up for weeks. They hide, and come out at night, ready to snare any unsuspecting barefoot breakfasters. I know how far a pyrex jug can spread, and how long the shards lurk, having accidentally smashed one on the terracotta tiled floor. |

I've been baking a lemon chicken at 425 for a while now- maybeI need to choose another pan. OP, I'm sorry, what a mess. Hopefully it wil be a funny family story to tell in a few years. |
