So there's been lots of talk in recent days of impeaching the president. I made the mistake of reading some comments on Facebook, and I think my head might explode. No matter what your opinion on the matter or the president or politics in general, I feel like we should do a little US Civics review.
1. If President Obama is impeached, Joe Biden will not become president.
2. If President Obama is impeached, he will not get thrown in jail.
3. If President Obama is impeached, he will not get deported back to Kenya.
OK... I feel better now...

You must read, or have WAYYYY different FB friends then I do, because it's NEVER ever been mentioned on FB, or anywhere else I read? That's just odd! What in the world would they be impeaching him for? They do remember the Clinton impeachment, don't they?!

I am confused. If he is impeached and removed from office I thought the VP became president. If this isn't true then who becomes president?

Hee hee. Thanks for setting the record straight! Theoretically, if a president was removed from office via impeachment, then the VP would become president, but given that the Senate is controlled by the Democrats, I can't fathom why they would vote to convict their own president. People need to remember that impeachment is a two step process: the House passes articles of impeachment and then the Senate holds a trial and votes to acquit or convict. That's why we've had two presidents who have been impeached but not removed from office because they were acquitted when put on trial. This is such a lame ass attempt to cripple Obama's presidency, just like the impeachment of Clinton and Johnson. And it's a total abuse of the intent of the Framers--impeachment was never intended to be a political weapon.

The House can vote to impeach him but 2/3 of the Senate has to vote to convict.
And Cindy, Sarah Palin called for him to be impeached a few weeks ago. It's being talked up now esp. since Boehner is going to sue him.

I guess the op was saying just the impeachment part without removal from office. Just confusing to my morning brain. I think most people think impeachment is removal from office, not realizing there are 2 parts.

I think imminently he's going to sue to demand the administration immediately implement all parts of the Affordable Care Act. Admittedly, I've not been paying very close attention but I think it's also related to (or in addition to?) a suit against Obama's use of executive power.

I don't believe I'm going to talk openly about this, but this is my personal opinion, not meant to start a riot - Boehner speaks on both sides of the fence when it suits him - as my Congressman he SUCKS! Wow - saying that out loud was so freeing!

Lol love it. I've been seeing this on Facebook and other sites a ton lately. No Obama is not muslim, yes he is a citizen and no he didn't win the elections by dead people voting for him. Where do these people get this garbage from? Sigh.

For the record, NIXON is the President who resigned. I think of impeachment (House) like charges being filed. The court hearing (Senate) still has to happen to find the person guilty or not guilty (remove from office).

It's easy to mix up all those similar names.

I actually had to remove a pea that went on and on and on and on in a Sarah Palin-ish type fashion. There was guaranteed 2 to 3 posts per day. She was on the impeachment wagon back then. I imagine she hasn't stopped either, which is unfortunate because she is the type of person that is otherwise known as being a positive person. Her Facebook was quite the opposite. It was offing depressing. And no, it's no one I've seen participating on NSBR.

It's hard to believe that House leadership and their party who have spent the last five years doing pretty much nothing but voting to change and/or repeal the ACA 50 times thinks this is a good way to spend their time now? and the taxpayers money? What a ship of fools.
