I do not want to have to mess with a separate app for my FB messages. What a pain in the butt.

I got it. I don't want to use 2 apps to use Facebook.

Yes, I got that a while ago. It's a pain. I rarely FB message, so I don't understand the advantage -- if there is any. I hate it when I get a FB message notification in the FB app and then it launches the messenger app.

Yes. Just got it today when I went to message my cousin. Ug. Do you really need to make this more complicated FB?

Do you really need to make this more complicated FB? That's exactly it. I'm thinking of the grocery list app I use. Imagine if I was in the store and looked at my list with one app and then had to open up another app the check the items off. It's really, really stupid to have 2 apps for the same thing. I'm not downloading another FB app. If someone needs to reach me with something urgent, they aren't doing it through FB anyway. I'll just wait until I'm at the computer to send or receive FB messages.

This is so stupid. I'm in a few local buy/sell groups and private messaging is vital to those groups. It is hard enough to get people to check their "Other" messages, but now for there to be a separate app, this is ridiculous.
I don't see it lasting. I will not download a second app on my phone, I guess I'll only get messages when I go on my computer.

I already use the app. It is super easy to use and you toggle back and forth automatically. No biggie really.

I got it to and am not downloading another app. I wonder if I will still be able to see that I have messages when I'm using the regular FB app. That's how I access FB most of the time, I do access it on my PC some of the time too, and it sounds like those will stay as-is?

I've been using Messenger since it came out and it's really not that big of a deal to me. When I get a message, I tap on the notification at the bottom, it opens up the Messenger app, I read and reply and click the "Return to FB" button that is flashing at the top (much like 'Return to Phone Call/Navigation' if I'm multitasking on my phone).

So, we are going to HAVE to use it? I tried it a few months ago and I don't like it!

It may not be a big deal once you get used to it, but it is annoying because what benefit does it add? (Maybe there are benefits I'm not aware of?)
1. It takes up more storage space on my phone and clutters it up with more apps. This might not bother some people but I prefer a more streamlined experience.
2. To me, this is like having to open one app to read an email and a different app to write an email. They are both integral parts of the "Email" experience, and both newsfeed and messages are an integral part of the Facebook experience. Why would they be in separate programs?

I didn't get the email but I did get the reminder on FB today. Thank you for posting the email so I had some background!

I can't see any way in the new app to tell if friends (who are not using the app) are online. Am I missing something? I really don't want the app, but I really don't want an app that has >less< features!

If your friends are online, there is a little circle on their Profile pic, it'll be blue if they are online, I believe. As far as the benefits, it's supposed to be faster than using the FB app but I really don't know because I've always just used the Messenger App. Sometimes I like going onto the Messenger app rather than having to go onto Facebook because I get distracted when I'm on Facebook and work doesn't get done LOL....

This is me too. these two apps seamlessly integrate and I don't have to do anything differently than I did before the Messenger app. In fact, I find it a bit easier because when I need to refer to a specific message, I don't have to navigate through the Facebook app.

I've been using the app for a year or so and don't think it's anymore cumbersome.

When I get a notification I open it and read my message without hopping on FB and wasting time looking at everything else (yes, I am easily distracted).

I have quite a few friends/family who are already using it. The consensus seems to be - if you use Messages a lot, this is better because it's faster, I guess there are more messaging-focused features (?), and you don't have to navigate through other FB stuff. Those who don't use Messages as much are annoyed. (I'm in the latter group.)
But, like all things, I imagine we'll either adjust or just stop using Messages.

Yep, I saw a couple of articles about it yesterday. Personally, I've given up on the FB app for iPhone and have been using something else since the last update, and have Messenger already installed. I don't use Messenger much anyway, so it's not a huge deal. But I can't understand the point of separating all of the functions into different apps. It completely destroys the user experience (IMO).
But then again, user experience has never seemed to be something that Facebook pays much attention to...

So, we are going to HAVE to use it? I tried it a few months ago and I don't like it! Same here. I got it confused with my text message app on my phone and was sending messages to people who aren't on FB enough to get the message - maybe it was just user stupidity on my part, but I don't see a need to change it.

I have it too and its really very simple. If you click on the message in the facebook app it switches it to the other takes just a second.

Mine is all categorized into folders by type and then the folders are alphabetized LOL. Everything is on one page as I'm not a fan of having multiple pages of apps. My phone is also very streamlined.

FB Messenger will eventually allow payments = more money for Zuckerberg and Company. That's why the move even though they give other "reasons."
I don't use FB chat - can you just use the mobile version of FB and avoid this altogether?

I don't even see a way to see my friends list. Oh wait, I found it now. Don't know why, but when I looked at this list earlier, it was blank, now it has all my Active friends on it. That was weird!

I can't blame the man for attempting to bring in revenue! I just would rather they be up front about that instead of acting like they are doing ME a favor. Either way, I don't plan to download an additional app.

I am another one who seamlessly uses the app. We had a family reunion a few weeks ago and I almost exclusively used the Facebook messenger to communicate. Just because I didn't have updated phone numbers for cousins for texting.
I use the "chathead" notification and when I get a new message this little round circle with their profile photo shows up. When I am done with the conversation I just drag it to the trash.
Change is hard, but give it a chance. It might surprise you.
