Oh yeah... and Oklahoma also has earthquakes (lots more than we used to) as well as a whole assortment of snakes, reptiles and assorted creepy crawlies, some of which are pretty dangerous.

I love living in my little town in ND. I hate the winter weather but I don't think I could call another place home. I've lived here almost my entire life ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/MNrJDkDuSwqIMVw33MdD.jpg)

I was just thinking about this today. i have only ever seen a scorpion in a zoo, and I have only ever seen a cockroach in a museum. And I am perfectly happy about both of those things. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/MNrJDkDuSwqIMVw33MdD.jpg)

I live in the Pacific Northwest. Pretty but gloomy. Frosty passive-aggressive people, mild winters, way too much performance casual wear, and always the threat of the big earthquake that is going to landslide us all into the sound.
No hurricanes, though.

Another Pacific North Westerner ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/MNrJDkDuSwqIMVw33MdD.jpg) Yes the rain and gloom can get old, but I was born and raised here so I'm used to it I guess. Most weather is occasional, as are the small earthquakes. Western Washington doesn't have the bugs or snakes that are on the Eastern side. I've lived in North Chicago, San Diego, Iowa and Northern California and Washington is still my favorite. Ok, it might be second to San Diego, but who can afford that ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/Q_m8lDOvc_3Le3r1GKdf.jpg)

I used to live in Nor Calif and loved it. Been through the earthquakes and Oakland Hills fire, etc. Since being in Arizona I've experienced coyotes, scorpians, freaky spiders, huge crickets and beetles. Haven't seen a snake yet. Having a son has obviously brought alot of that to my attention as he is enthralled with them all. Funny. I've been here almost 15 years and I've seen one scorpion, no snakes, one black widow and plenty of coyotes. But the Yotes aren't a big deal.

In the UK it seems to be traditional to moan about the weather but I am so grateful that we don't get the extremes you guys do - tornadoes, hurricanes etc. Down in the south where I am we rarely even get snow & the worst bugs that we get are probably wasps. No dangerous/poisonous creatures to speak of either. A good reminder to be thankful for where we are whenever I get wanderlust!

I lived in England for 4 years, I loved the weather. I know that makes me weird to some, but it was my favorite place I've lived. 4 seasons without any of the extremes, not too hot, not too cold, at least where I lived.

Agreed. I can never move. Everything here is mild - the weather, the creepy reptile factor, etc.

I live in the Great White North (aka Calgary, Alberta) ... we deal with the odd mouse and wasp and mosquito but that's about it ... that's the trade-off for having winter forever ![:P](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/OrTI4SBmZ2ZYSFv6ag4f.jpg) Leanne Yes. That. I'd rather have the winter than the crawlies, so I'm happy here.

I live in Holbrook New York which is on the eastern end of Long Island. I LOVE having four seasons and seeing all the changes. I also like suburban living with the beaches and seashore just 5 minutes away but still have the hustle n bustle of New York City and Manhattan just 60 minutes away.

I live in San Diego and have for almost my entire life. I lived in my parents house for 18 years and only saw 3 lizards inside the house. My husband and I have lived in our house for 3 years and have only had one lizard in our garage. Bugs just aren't really all that big here and they generally stay away from inside. Earthquakes aren't even that big of a deal because we aren't near any major fault lines. The beaches are lovely, the mountains are pristine and even the desert can be enjoyable if you go at the right time of year. There is something for everyone in southern California. We love the San Diego area, especially Pacific Beach. We have scorpions, snakes, coyote, javelina, tarantulas, bobcat, quail, etc. in our area. Truth be told though, I've lived in Tucson almost my entire life and only saw all these "wonderful" creatures when we moved out to the west side of town, closer to the mountains. When I lived near the university, I never saw any of these creatures. I didn't see a live scorpion till we moved into our house 17 years ago. Since it was a new build, we apparently stirred up the earth a bit and saw a boat load of scorpions our first year in the house. They get caught in the duct system, etc. It didn't help that our carpet was a light brown "scorpion" color. I think I would have had a heart attack and either died or moved

It was pretty freaky, freecharlie. Our oldest son was a baby at the time and crawling, so I was ever vigilant. Just a couple of months ago, I was in the restroom and heard a scratching sound above me in the vent. Next thing I knew, a small scorpion dropped down! Freaked me out!!!! It was late at night, so I had to kill it (DH was asleep). Blech.

ITA. And I'll add that every time I go on vacation, while I love seeing other places and new experiences, it makes me appreciate coming home that much more. Mostly because of the lack of traffic. I cannot imagine spending so much time on the roads commuting.

I'm scared to death of everything with more than two legs, or with no legs at all, so I'm really happy to live in Norway. Okay, it's cold most of the year, and between November and February it's only daylight between 9 am and 3 pm, but as long as it means no deadly spiders or other critters, I will cope. Complain about the cold and dark, but cope.

I get black widows in the garage often, but rarely in the house. We have had 3 rattlers removed from our yard. And the spiders, I don't know if it's just us or what, but the wolf spiders are crazy this year, we have had 4 in the house in the past month. But what gets me is the sewer roaches. **shudder**. I cannot stand those nasty things. Fortunately since we moved out of the city they are not as common.

Becky where do you live? We are talking about where we are going to move. It won't be for a few more years, but want to explore other places. I have cold and snow, and a lot of it this past winter. I almost think that I'm better with that than bugs. I live in the Denver metro area. I've talked to people that have lived in places like upper NY state where they say they have snow on the ground from September to May. It's rare to have snow on the ground here for more than about a week. Many times it's gone the next day. Which reminds me - ice storms. I was well into my 30s before I ever experienced an ice storm. That was really scary, but a super rare event here also. I'd move back to Colorado in a heartbeat. It was, by far, the greatest place I've ever lived and I moved a LOT in my life (military brat, etc). My oldest was born in the Springs.

Also there was a tornado in Fairplay, so the mountains aren't completely safe. How bizarre was that? My dad grew up in Fairplay but lives in Wisconsin now, so I had to call him and tell him about it.

I'm in northern Colorado and I absolutely love where I live. Foxes, the occasional Bald Eagle, 4 distinct seasons, low humidity, and very little of the things I dislike. As much as I adore the beach, I can't imagine living anywhere else.

I am on the central California coast and I know how lucky I am to live here but I miss Florida and the southeast. I was totally okay with alligators, snakes, wild boars, and all manner of bugs.
Now I have a lion, yes, a LION that lives behind my house. I haven't seen him for a few months but last time we saw him, he was walking up our street at about 11 pm and was directly under a streetlight. Sorry, but I am not okay with that. When I called my friend back in SC and told her there was a lion by my house she thought I had been drinking. My neighbor called the police on the lion and she said they acted like she told them there was a UFO in front of her house. I asked her what she thought the police were going to do, come out and arrest him?
Also saw a "stray dog" one morning on my way to work running up the road in front of me. I was going to stop and pick him up. Then I got closer and saw it was a coyote. Didn't pick him up.

I live in Northern San Diego County. Can't beat the weather but we definitely battle fleas on the pets. Also we have the occasional squirrel coyotes, there are bats around, mosquitoes sometimes and June bugs. Also wasps.

I love the four seasons of MI, just wish winter didn't last so damned long. I like that my city is kinda set in a valley so we don't get the severity some of the summer storms that the cities closer to Lake MI do. Lake effect snow isn't as bad here as opposed to the city 30 minutes to my west or even up near DH's work.
Wildlife isn't too bad. The ticks can be awful, especially if you live in a wooded area.
But it's the people in my city that I truly hate sometimes. We're a city that is half the size or smaller than some of the most dangerous cities in the country but yet my city has landed on that list, near the top. I cannot wait until we can move.

Where we are right now can get humid, but we've lived in worse. We have snakes, black widows among other things here. We did have an earthquake a few months ago (new experience for me)
Grew up in Australia in a very rural area, then out to the middle of nowhere, so was used to seeing snakes, spiders, bats/flying foxes and lots of wildlife (yes and green frogs)
Here is the US, I used to chase tornadoes, so they don't bother me so much, course it's different being in one than being on the other side of it too. Lived in tx so again, snakes, tx tarantulas and the like.
We're to move in July, so I can only wait and see what the next state is like.

I love living in Texas, but if someone offered me and DH good jobs in Colorado, particularly northwest Denver, Loveland, or Fort Collins, we'd go in a heartbeat. DH grew up there and we met in grad school in Greeley.

I live in England. It rained today (cliche huh?) which I bitched about because we had the bbq out and friends round. Having read this thread though, I think I appreciate a simple rainstorm a lot more than I did!

I live in western Massachusetts and I love it here. I could do without the rough winters that we occasionally have, but we don't have huge, horrible bugs for the most part. We HAVE, however, been affected by hurricanes, tsunamis and tornadoes, but it's not something that happens often. I love New England.
