Because when I see threads about scorpions and snakes in your yards and houses, and now centipedes, or bees or bats, or all manner of giant spiders or other critters I shudder and thank my lucky stars I don't live there. While in Florida I did see Palmetto bugs but hope never to see one again. Heck, we don't even have to worry about fleas or other pests on our pets in this climate.
I also don't have to worry about hurricanes or tornadoes (although some areas here do have tornadoes, I live fairly close to the mountains and they aren't really a worry). Earthquakes are a distant possibility, but nothing I've ever really actively worried about. (Knock on wood.)
About the only thing we have is an occasional blizzard, but those don't even happen that often. And melt in about 3 days.
Whew!
What about you?

I live in NorCal, have never seen a snake in our yard but have had foxes. We have earthquakes but not tornadoes or hurricanes and rarely see bugs or mosquitoes.

Becky where do you live? We are talking about where we are going to move. It won't be for a few more years, but want to explore other places.
I have cold and snow, and a lot of it this past winter. I almost think that I'm better with that than bugs.

I used to live in Nor Calif and loved it. Been through the earthquakes and Oakland Hills fire, etc. Since being in Arizona I've experienced coyotes, scorpians, freaky spiders, huge crickets and beetles. Haven't seen a snake yet. Having a son has obviously brought alot of that to my attention as he is enthralled with them all.

I almost think that I'm better with that than bugs. I live in the Denver metro area. I've talked to people that have lived in places like upper NY state where they say they have snow on the ground from September to May. It's rare to have snow on the ground here for more than about a week. Many times it's gone the next day. Which reminds me - ice storms. I was well into my 30s before I ever experienced an ice storm. That was really scary, but a super rare event here also.

I have heat, humidity that you can cut with a knife, snakes in the yard, mosquitoes, hurricanes (and small tornados,) roaches the size of small airplanes, rats that run across the power lines (thanks to all the citrus trees) and all manner of other creepy crawly things. I also have no snow, gorgeous beaches and I wouldn't trade it for the world. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/MNrJDkDuSwqIMVw33MdD.jpg)

Ditto! I love living in Oregon for man, many reasons... not the least of which is our lack of disgusting bugs and other creepy crawlies invading our homes. Sure, we have slugs, but they don't come inside. We no longer live where we have to worry about tsunamis. Earthquakes happen, but not frequently. No tornadoes and no hurricanes. No blizzards. Yeah, it gets rain but that's a small price to pay compared to all the great parts of living here.

We do have coyotes and I have heard them howl at dusk. But when I know they are in the neighborhood (which isn't very often) I accompany my dogs outside. But I'll take coyotes over bugs any day! ![:))](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/cheesy.png)

The Mom let the dog out in her backyard and then heard a horrible noise. A coyote had come into her yard and took the little dog and well.....you know what he did with it. So sad. My co-worker was just devastated. They like those little animals that can't defend themselves. Our big chocolate lab has never been bothered.

This time of year we are over run with black bears. The Mamas are taking their babies out to show them off and the Males are randy as rabbits. We had a male calling out for the love of his life the other night. I seriously could have made a sex tape from the moaning and groaning going on. Made me giggle.(and stay inside.)

I have lived in Florida for 14 yrs and the only thing that still gets me are the snakes. We see them every so often around our house. Luckily, most of them aren't dangerous, mostly black racers. Right now it's brutally hot but winter and spring are the best times of the year.

I'm in NorCal too and since I've moved to the Sacramento area (12 yrs) I've only felt one tiny earthquake. I grew up in Oakland, and I remember at least one or more good size quakes every year.
But apparently we live in a horrible flood zone, so bad they will not allow any new construction in the area until all the levees are fixed. Good thing there is a drought going on right now so we don't have to worry about floods!

If there is one thing they emphasize here it is do NOT count on the size of your dog to be a deterrent to coyotes. They are very bold and will go after just about anything if they are hungry enough.
I know a lady with a smallish dog that has pee pads in her house simply because of the coyote problem in her area.

It's probably too cold here in Scotland for many bugs and beasties but centipedes, bees, bats and spiders are very common. We do get the occasional cow, sheep or rabbit in the yard and on rare occasions deer. The midges bother a lot of people but thankfully not me.
We have rain, wind and snow. A lot of rain, wind and snow. Most days. OK I fibbed about the snow. We have about 2 months when it doesn't snow.

I live in Australia. Nuff said! I have lived in the tropics and didn't like that, although enjoyed the large green frogs that would turn up in the house. I've lived in the desert, which I liked except for the scorpions and millipedes and the snakes that would appear on the door step, in the pool, etc.
Now I live on the coast where the last earthquake was 1989, we had a mini cyclone about 7 yrs ago. The spiders are a bit of a worry but I stopped my annual spider spray because there's frogs in the garden. It's the middle of winter and the daytime temps are in the mid to high 60's. And it's a small city so the traffic isn't too bad. I hated it when we first moved here but I think it's grown on me!

I live in San Diego and have for almost my entire life. I lived in my parents house for 18 years and only saw 3 lizards inside the house. My husband and I have lived in our house for 3 years and have only had one lizard in our garage. Bugs just aren't really all that big here and they generally stay away from inside.
Earthquakes aren't even that big of a deal because we aren't near any major fault lines. The beaches are lovely, the mountains are pristine and even the desert can be enjoyable if you go at the right time of year. There is something for everyone in southern California.

I'm trying to edit because as I reread it, my question sounded rude. I asked how long you'd been here because about 5 years or so ago we got a blizzard that took 3 months to melt because it snowed each week and never warmed up Figured out the edit ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/MNrJDkDuSwqIMVw33MdD.jpg) I did want to say I agree with you on the amount and size of our bugs. I've lived in Illinois my entire life, yet every year I'm STILL caught off guard by how hot and humid our summers are and how cold and unforgiving our winters can be. We have massive thunderstorms, tornados, and every once in a great while (3 times in my 37 years) we are even able to faintly feel the aftershocks from the small earthquakes that originate in the southern part of the state.
We have the usual critters running around here-deer, coyotes, foxes, rabbits, squirrels, the occasional snake and salamander, etc. Recently there have been sightings of mountain lions in the area, which scares the beejezus out of me! Thankfully, I live in town, so the chances of encountering a mountain lion are pretty small!

I live way up north in Wisconsin. Our winters have been BRUTAL. The mosquitoes have been so horrible here this spring/summer that you can barely go outside some hours of the day. I used to say I would never live down south because of all the creepy crawlies, but honestly they can't be worse than this!

Glad I live here I'm a native. Although I have lived other places. While we do have centipedes and bats in Colorado, I've never had any in the house, or worried about them getting into my house. That's what I meant - it's not very common here. I honestly don't remember any blizzard that took that long to melt! They at least have fairly good road maintenance in my area, so while there might be an initial few days of scary driving, it usually passes pretty quickly. Some municipalities do get hammered for their lack of speed in getting to the side streets sometimes, but you can't expect every side street to have priority - which is why it's a good thing it usually melts pretty quickly.

I am in El Paso, TX...due to the military. LOL! It is dry. Desert climate is not nice to your skin. I have no trees, no grass, and no water. ![:(](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/mYSUyHtG9Jrcmm_ydVcK.jpg) I hate it. No humidity is great, but I miss the moisture in the air. We have big spiders, scorpions, and snakes. I have only seen one scorpion since I moved here three years ago. Other than that, it has been nothing We don't have bugs, like mosquitoes or hardly anything that flies. We have flies, but other than that, no bugs. I want to move to Florida. I love it here. We have all 4 seasons. I love, love, love the snow, unlike 97.2% of other residents. No crazy weather threats. No crazy bugs that can't be annihilated with bug spray found at the local lawn and garden store. Lots of birds and furry critters like chipmunks, bunnies and squirrels. (We have at least a half dozen baby squirrels in the trees in our front yard and I could watch them for hours.) We're only a few minutes away from Lake Erie, but I must say that it's pretty gross and isn't a hot spot for us...despite it being quite the travel destination for many out of towners. The location of our home is pretty great, too. No more than 15 minutes away from all major grocery stores, malls and shopping centers.

We have just the regular type and amount of summer bugs(mosquitoes, beetles) around here; nothing to complain about really. As I was making the 20 minute drive home from the ocean yesterday, I was remarking to my kids how lucky we are to live were we do. I really love it. I also don't mind the winters too much (although this past one was a doozie)and the change of seasons is also a favorite perk of living in NY.

Truth be told though, I've lived in Tucson almost my entire life and only saw all these "wonderful" creatures when we moved out to the west side of town, closer to the mountains. When I lived near the university, I never saw any of these creatures. I didn't see a live scorpion till we moved into our house 17 years ago. Since it was a new build, we apparently stirred up the earth a bit and saw a boat load of scorpions our first year in the house. They get caught in the duct system, etc. It didn't help that our carpet was a light brown "scorpion" color.
