How do you milk a hippo? Very carefully! Those critters are mean!
My friend told me today that 85% of dogs in shelters are pit bulls or pit bull mixes. I have no idea if this is true, but it's my random fact for the day.

Ask a baby hippo.. I am sure they know how to milk a hippo! But is your fact true? From jimmy.org: Dr. Rebecca Lewison, an ecologist and hippo conservationist at San Diego State University, says “the pink milk thing is totally false”.1.
Professor David Wynick, University of Bristol, gave his opinion on the Ask a Biologist site: “It is true that hippos secrete a red pigment in their sweat that acts as a natural suntan lotion but nowhere can I find evidence it is secreted in breast milk and thus turns it pink. Further, since the pigment is acidic I would guess that would not combine well with the milk.”

In response to your question.... There are a lot of 'facts' on the internet that just aren't true. And I did not know about the red pigment in hippo sweat! That is cool

I learned that is is possible to determine that a woman has vaginal orgasms by how they walk. And that someone got a grant to study this.

Black dogs (especially larger breeds) are less frequently adopted than other color dogs. They don't photograph well, for one thing. And there's a weird bias against black dogs that shelters have noticed, as well.

Interesting about the Hippo Milk. I learned that the boat that was uncovered at the World Trade Centers (while they were working on the memorial site) shows that the boat was likely built around 1773, in a small shipyard near Philadelphia. Also that it may have been made from the same kind of white oak trees used to build parts of Independence Hall. ARTICLEBlack dogs (especially larger breeds) are less frequently adopted than other color dogs. They don't photograph well, for one thing. And there's a weird bias against black dogs that shelters have noticed, as well. That is true about black cats as well....my sis adopted a black cat and the vet said they are hardly adopted because (a) they are plain looking and (b) people are superstitious about them.

Ooo, I LOVE random facts and useless knowledge. I can't think of any at the moment but will be watching this thread.

I know the eel's names. Isn't it in a song? Maybe not.

What do VO women do differently? Or are they keeping this a dead secret so creepy guys in bars don't have yet another way to be gross and discriminatory?

Okay...but...I get that all kinds of crazy things get studied, but what is the point? Or rather why is important? Is there some kind of health related correlation that we should know? Or was the study conceived by some horny researcher who wanted to know what they were getting into ahead of time??

She's not orgas ming WHILE she's walking, is she? Because if so, it would look like a stagger.

Is it somehow better/different for the partner? Because you know they'd only study it if it's going to benefit them in some way.

When we adopted our cat from the shelter, they had a "special" going on: Buy one cat at full adoption price and get a black cat for free!

I know the eel's names. Isn't it in a song? Maybe not. Yes, she addresses them both in a talking part of the song, Poor Unfortunate Souls.

I have learned that I can not eat chocolate pudding without getting it on my shirt. Likewise beetroot. Especially if the shirt is either brand new, or white.

That's a shame about the black dogs and cats. Personally I'd rather have a black cat or dog. Every cat I've had is black.

My useless fact of the day is that David Bowie's real name is David Jones, but he changed it because of Davy Jones from the Monkees. I didn't learn that today though. I don't think I have learned anything to day, except for our pass code for our wireless, but it isn't nearly as interesting,

All valid questions. link to a report on the study. Totally safe for work. I had read a better report, but I can't find it again. This one hits the high points.

I have learned that I can not eat chocolate pudding without getting it on my shirt. I have to brush my teeth before I put my shirt on in the morning I just can't not get toothpaste on it <sigh> I did know about the adoption of black dogs and cats White dogs are hard to photograph too. But they are easier than black. Wooohooo, I also knew the eels names, just not how to spell them correctly All our animals are named after Disney characters so we are pretty good with different character names

Yep, the eels' names are right at the end of the song. I used to listen to that soundtrack endlessly when it first came out.
