I am like, 2 minutes from home and realize I FORGOT to apply makeup. I have a lot of redness and some scars, so my natural skin isn't great. Not HIDEOUS, but blotchy and red.
Plus there's the whole "where are your eyeballs, Sharla?" without eyeliner.
Would you have turned back and been late for work? I had no spare minutes in my commute to help me make it to work on time if I decided to go home and fix myself up.
I ended up not going back. I only carry lipstick and powder foundation, so I applied that. The powder foundation tones down the redness and helps with the overall unevenness, but it's certainly not a cure-all.
My eyes-- well, I just look like a blinking, white rabbit.

When I worked in an office, I would have turned around and gone home, assuming I didn't have anything on my schedule first thing. But, it entirely depends on the culture of your office and requirements of your job.

If I had a purse stash, I would use that. Unfortunately, I do not have a purse stash, outside of an old compact of pressed powder so I'd probably be going naked for the day.

Depends on the job, but in my role/company (been there 10 years, not client facing on most days, etc) - I'd just go in with no makeup. If I had some in my purse, great, but I don't usually carry makeup in my purse.
I figure men go into the office every single day without makeup, what's the big deal about one day for me? I know there are different expectations on women and it does depend on the environment (for example, if I was in sales and meeting with clients - not an option to not wear makeup. New job - not an option). But for me, I use days like that to be all "This is some sexist shit!" and use that as my justification, haha.

I always have a little beauty bag of sample size cosmetics that I keep in my work bag. I would have done the same as you - made do with those (although I do have a small tube of BB cream, eyeliner stub and tiny mascara in my bag as well). Plus there are always shops nearby and in a true emergency I could buy some cheapies to see me through the day.

I have a small purse stash, but it does nothing really to cover the redness. I have rosacea and people ALWAYS comment on my red face if I happen to forget makeup, so I am very self-conscious about it, so I would be late for work.
ETA: If I went to work everyday, I would probably make my purse stash a little more usable, but I work at home and usually only go out of the house to do shopping and to church, so I don't usually have an issue with forgetting.

I can't really be late so I'd have to make do. But I honestly can't imagine forgetting my makeup, that would be like forgetting pants to me. Except one day when I got interrupted and forgot my mascara...but even then, I had on my shadow and liner.
I feel for you, I'd feel so naked!

Go to work without and prepare for everyone to ask what's wrong ALL DAY LONG.

That would be like forgetting to put on my clothes.

I'd have made do. I work with JH kids, they wouldn't care.
Keep nothing in my car. Here in Houston it would melt about 80% of the year

When I was still working being late wasn't an option so in your position I would make do with what you have in your purse ... The lack of mascara would drive me crazy though

I did this once when YDS was an infant. Going back home would have meant I'd get distracted beyond the makeup and be even later to work -- oh, let me quick clean this or that, look at the mail, put this into recycling -- instead, I stopped at Walgreen's by my office. I bought a few basics to get me through the day. Now, I keep a little makeup bag in my desk. When one of my every day products at home is getting low, I buy a new one for home and I put the almost gone one into the bag at work to freshen/restock the desk makeup bag so that the products in there are somewhat newish all the time. I got caught out in an unexpected downpour last summer. I was thankful to have that little bag then, too.

I keep an eyeliner, mascara, and lipstick in a little bag in my purse. They're not my favorite brands, but they get me by on sudden-rainstorm and teary days - or days when I'm at school until 9pm and just need some freshening!
In your case, I would have stopped into the office, then ducked out to the nearest pharmacy asap for supplies.

I actually ran out of time this morning. I was able to get foundation on but I grabbed my mascara & eye lash curler so I could put that on when I got to the office. If I tried while rushing, I would have poked my eye or something. I wouldn't miss a train (or go back) for make up.

Whatever I did in the morning, I'd have stopped on the way home and bought a spare collection of my makeup to keep at work.

Well, I voted Oprah! I'm glad you can make jokes.
My makeup-less face is not the WORST thing my co-workers will see today -- we have a staff refrigerator for that.
Tell yourself you're giving the face a DAY OFF!

Because this has happened to me before, I keep a small stash at work, blush, eyeliner, a pot of eyeshadow. I would have done what you did if I didn't have that, and told everyone I didn't feel all that great today!!

It's the lack of mascara that would scare my co-workers! I was heading out to meet friends one evening, glanced in my rearview mirror to discover I'd forgotten my mascara. Stopped at a grocery store enroute for some Maybelline.

How could you forget to put it on? It's like clothing to me. I couldn't forget it. I'm trying to figure that out! I washed my face, put on sunscreen... I usually do something else while waiting for the sunscreen to soak in a bit before I put on makeup. I have new medicine to take in the morning. And a sort of new routine with the dogs. Plus my hair was being weird and I had to struggle with it. I don't always do things in the same order. Has it come to that? I need to have a set regimen so that I don't forget essentials?

I try to keep at least mascara and lipstick in my desk drawer at work and also in my car. I have left plenty of times without remembering my makeup, so I understand! I say -- do whatever makes you most comfortable. If you don't mind having an "off day" and it doesn't impact you, then go for it. If you feel really "undone" then can you drop into a drug store and pick up a couple of necessities to get you through?

Since you didn't have enough time, you did the right thing. But then, I hate that feeling of knowing you're not looking your best and everyone can see it. Even though they're probably not even thinking about it.

Makeup is such a regular part of my life that I literally cannot imagine "forgetting" to apply it. That would be like forgetting to put on my clothes. Seriously. I would have had to turn around and go home because the only thing I keep in my purse is a lipstick. The only other option would have been to stop in at a CVS on the way and pick up something to put on.

I've done that. I have gotten to the office, gone to the restroom, looked up in the mirror while washing my hands, and then ... HORRORS! I forgot to put my makeup on! By then, I just go with it and hope no meetings come up that day.
