Update: They left this morning around 9 and drove for about an hour in the snow and then turned south and everything was smooth sailing after that. They made it here about 6:30 tonight and I have been soaking up the grandson love.

My daughter and son in law are leaving tonight around midnight from Kearney, NE and driving to Tulsa, OK for a visit. I am hearing the weather and road conditions could get bad and I am worried to death.
Please tell me how the weather is if you are in their path from I-80 in Nebraska and south on I-35 through Kansas.

My parents live in Kearney so I just called my mom.
She said I-80 west is closed {probably to the CO line} and it's a sheet of ice.
She did say that I-80 east is open so they could go from exit 272 (Kearney) to 353 (York) and then south.
That's how we go when traveling between NE and TX.
Mom said it isn't good and she doesn't recommend making the trip.
Maybe you can get them to reconsider.

Thanks for checking for me originalvanillabean. I have told her to at least wait until tomorrow and see what it is like in the daylight but whether they listen or not is another story.

Eddie-n-Harley. Nice link! Looks like 80 is closed to Grand Island. If 80 is closed, Hwy 30 won't be any better. I don't think they'll be able to leave tonight. Keep us posted lincolnsgma

I-80 west is closed to Colorado and US30 is closed in places. It's not supposed to stop until 7:00 a.m. so wait until morning! Wind conditions ate horrible! Stuff is blowing everywhere here! I'm 70 miles west of Kearney. DS lives there. Works as a park manager. He said it's bad there!

As much as I want to see my babies, I don't want it to be at such a high risk. I think I have convinced her to hold off on leaving tonight at least. I am trying to get her to wait until Friday morning now.

I-80 Westbound is closed from Grand Island to the border. The wind is terrible in Grand Island, but as of 10:30 pm there is no snow here.

That storm just went through here. Driving was a nightmare. Unless they can beat the storm, I'd wait for it to pass

They might be dealing with a lot of smoke going down through central and south central Kansas and into Oklahoma. Huge fires down that way
