This is probably a stupid question but how does everyone pronounce "aunt" and where are you from? Do you say it like ont or ant? I'm from Northern Virginia and I've always pronounced it ont.

I always said ant (grew up in NY metro area) but my husband is from the Boston area and they say "ahnt" and that's what my kids have taken on so now everyone is "ahnt." I don't love it, but it's definitely not a hill to die on!

Ant. Speaking of which ~ do you know why ants don't have balls? Because they can't dance. (My daddy's favorite joke back in the day.)

Ant-grew up in MI
DH's family is SD says ont and it does sound pretentious to me. Not sure why, they certainly don't act pretentious. It just sounds so out of character.

I'm from right outside Boston, so we lean towards the "ont" pronunciation, but really, it's a bit harder to describe than that .

Apparently I am pretentious. Who knew? I say Ont-ie. Maybe adding the -ie makes it less pretentious or just gives away my redneckiness. If that's still pretentious, maybe the fact that I say "Momma" helps. As in, how's your momma and them?

Ant if followed by a two syllable name - ant Nancy.
Ant-y if followed by a one syllable name - ant-y Joy.
That was an unspoken rule anyway and just worked out that way for all my aunts and their syllables.
eta - from Ohio
eta more - phonetically "ont" would be correct, right? Launch, faun, Braun.

Ant - from MI. Aunty bugs me (ha). One of my favorite niece calls me that and it kinda makes me cringe. Although I love her tons, and would never mention it to her.

Grew up in "ant" land. Moved to "ont" land. I think I use both, because sometimes if I say "ant" people up here look at me like I have 5 heads.
