What book is your book club reading?

The two books that I really loved so far this year were:

A Man Called Over - a feel-good book for sure.
A Little Life - very intense with lots of triggers but really good.

Last month we read Still Alice. This month, The Good Earth. I would recommend both.

A Head Full of Ghosts - not in a book club but almost finished this book and I love it. Think it would make for great discussions.

Year of Wonders - Geraldine Brooks
Just finished To Kill a Mockingbird and Go Set a Watchman

This month is The Life We Bury by Allen Eskens. I'm about 100 pages into the book and think it's pretty good.

I do a book group for the library that meets at a local bar/restaurant. We tend to do "lighter" reads than other book groups, but here are books we've had good discussion about:

The Rosie Project by Graeme Simsion
The Martian by Andy Weir
The Boys in the Boat by Daniel Brown (this was the One Maryland One Book last year and the author came to my library)
Ready Player One by Ernest Cline

We also try to do some YA books. Here are some I've done or have heard being done:
Eleanor and Park by Rainbow Rowell
Challenger Deep by Neal Shusterman
We Were Liars by e. lockhart (great for summer because it's a fast read and it is set at the beach).

We're reading All the Winters After by Seré Prince Halverson and she's coming to our meeting this month to discuss it with us! We read her first book a few years ago, The Underside of Joy, which was excellent, and she came to that meeting as well. It was quite interesting to have an author at the meeting (we are fortunate that she lives nearby), we learned so much about her process of writing the book and asked a lot of questions about the characters.

Orphan Train. It was a fast read for me (which is unusual lately). It's about immigrant orphans sent out west on a train to find foster families. I really enjoyed it. I'm not sure if it was on 2peas that I heard about it or somewhere else.

I'm in a book club that emphasizes diversity of experience. Last month, the choice was "The Book of Unknown Americans" by Cristina Henriquez. This month is "Ten Little Indians" by Sherman Alexie and next month will be "The Warmth of Other Suns" by Isabel Wilkerson.

A couple of books my book group enjoyed and generated a lot of discussion were --
A Girl Named Zippy by Haven Kimmel and
The Glass Castle: A Memoir by Jeannette Walls

I finished it, but I didn't care for it at all.  I know others loved it though, so maybe it will make for a good discussion.  

I love love loved The Glass Castle...it's a memoir, so I don't get how it's an attempt to do anything other than to make sense of the author's very unconventional upbringing...but that might make for good discussion in a book club, as there are obviously differences of opinion!
I also loved Orphan Train. I stayed up until the wee hours to finish All the Light We Cannot See..had to know how it ended. I also hated A Spool of Blue Thread, but all of Ann Tyler's books leave me cold. I just don't get her appeal. I've tried repeatedly to see what others "get" in her books and I'm always just left thinking "well, that was a book about nothing"..
I somehow missed that Adriana Trigiani had a new one out!! I usually love her work, but her last one The Supreme Macaroni Company was disappointing. It felt very rushed, like she just decided to quit writing toward the end, so I hope this new one is better.
