I love love loved T he Glass Castle...it's a memoir, so I don't get how it's an attempt to do anything other than to make sense of the author's very unconventional upbringing...but that might make for good discussion in a book club, as there are obviously differences of opinion! I also loved Orphan Train. I stayed up until the wee hours to finish All the Light We Cannot See..had to know how it ended. I also hated A Spool of Blue Thread, but all of Ann Tyler's books leave me cold. I just don't get her appeal. I've tried repeatedly to see what others "get" in her books and I'm always just left thinking "well, that was a book about nothing".. I somehow missed that Adriana Trigiani had a new one out!! I usually love her work, but her last one The Supreme Macaroni Company was disappointing. It felt very rushed, like she just decided to quit writing toward the end, so I hope this new one is better. We have very similar taste in reading. Loved The Glass Castle (all time top 10) and Orphan Train and not a fan of Spool of Blur Thread.

I just read three non fiction books which were all stunning:
"Between the world and me" "The notorious RGB" "When breath becomes air" (my least favorite)
My book club read the top two above plus we just finished "all the light we cannot see" which I loved.
I just bought two new books: "we are called to rise" and Ethan Fromme

Our last book club book was Mr. Splitfoot by Samantha Hunt. It was a strange, spiritual sort of ghost story. Tbh, half the club hated it but I really enjoyed it. The book before that A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman, was universally loved by everyone in the club. We had some excellent discussion. Other favorites from our book club were: Child 44 by Tom Rob Smith (serial killer in post-Stalinist Russia; The Book Thief (Gosh, do I even need to say more about this one; Can't Get to Heaen by Fanny Farmer (a lighter sweeter read).
Our current selection is Salt to the Sea by Ruta Sepetys. I haven't started it yet--it was just selected yesterday. The person who chose this loves this author, so I'm hopeful

We read When Breath Becomes Air.. it was universally loved by everyone! Which is rare for our group.
We are now reading Fates and Furies.
I also loved Americanah.
We read Nightingale and it was a good read.

We're reading A Man Called Ove right now, but I don't like it. Not sure I'm going to finish it. How far are you? It took me a good 50% to get into it. It's so sweet and endearing in the end. The last few chapters made the whole book.

I'm in two book clubs. It's interesting that nearly everyone in one club LOVED "All the Light You Cannot See" and in the other, nearly everyone HATED it.
We read A Man Called Ove in one (the one that hated All the Light. . .) and everyone loved it. That book club just finished "Counting by 7s" which is a young adult book, but we all loved it.

I'm the same way and honestly I only pushed through because my BFF picked it for our book club book. I'm seriously so glad I finished it though.

SabrinaP, I felt the same way about A Man Called Ove. It took me a bit to get into it. Not that it was bad, just that it was a little slow at first. But like you, I thought that the ending was so sweet.
