" The trouble with othering plus-size women, aside from the fact that it makes shopping challenging, demeaning, and annoying for most of us, is that it also makes the average woman think she’s a minority"
From an article in this brouhaha.
OP, I at least see why you felt this is a topic up for discussion after googling the issue.
But deciding you don't believe someone who says they are a certain size after they "admit"( interesting choice of word there), to a certain weight, comes off as petty, middle school mean girls behavior.
There are a lot of reasons why I believe Amy, not that it's up to me to make such a judgement.
And there are a lot of reasons I believe she was not happy with Glamour because this was ultimately bad for the message it is sending.

If anyone is interested, there is a website where people have voluntarily uploaded pictures of themselves with their weight, size, height, etc... You can search by parameters... www.mybodygallery.comOn one hand I think why? But then on the other hand I think it's awesome that so many everyday people are showing what real people look like...

I'm her exact height and weight. I wear a 12. I wear a large/extra large at most places, including the Limited and Loft. Kohl's, Target, Macy's.... still a size 12/large. I'm a 14 in most dresses, for some reason. I hear people who are my height and weight say they wear 6-8 or a size small. I'm not buying it. It's all body type. I'm her height and at 160 I am easily a 6 or 8. I'm a good 25 lbs more than that right now and wear a M/L at loft in tops/dresses and a 10/12 in their pants (though I did buy a pair of size 8 jeans from there this winter that are fitting me just fine). I buy a ton from there and their larges have been drowning me for the past year. Do we not all understand that we all have different body types? I carry weight evenly all over so I can fluctuate quite a lot in weight and I don't look that different.

My best friend at work, when she talked about losing weight I told her she was insane. She had to be maybe 130 and didn't need to lose a drop. Nope, she was 155 and proved it with a photo of her scale. Where I thought she was a 4 she is actually an 8 or a 10. This is a woman I see daily and yet I still would never have guessed her size. Another woman at work has offered me clothes that no longer fit her, size 4s. At the time she offered, I was an 8 and barely. Again, see this woman five days a week and she had no idea these pants wouldn't fit me. It's all about HOW you dress. I emphasize as much as I can my very narrow natural waist and deemphasize my wide hips and sausage arms. Yes, yes, yes! It's cracking me up that women here are so sure they know what size a celebrity does or doesn't wear. And this is a person you've never seen in real life, up close! It's just someone you've see in magazines and on the screen. Again, I'll remind people of all the times that someone has met a celebrity in person and are shocked at how much smaller they are than what they thought. I hear that CONSTANTLY. Some have commented and speculated why some of us are so "sensitive" about this. It doesn't have to do with vanity sizing and wanting to be in denial about being overweight or plus-sized. It really has to do with being tired of women constantly being judged and speculated on for their size. It feels very petty and unnecessary. I don't think men usually do that sort of thing with each other and it's always really bothered me about women.

I agree that this seems a bit mean girl to me too. Can you imagine the same conversation about a male celebrity?
-Oh Leonardo Dicaprio says he wears a size 32 waist -no way! my husband weighs the same and he is at least a 36!
It would seem ridiculous. I hate that women's bodies and weight are so discussed and analyzed, I don't know why it even matter- who cares.
Plus I've noticed, you never see the opposite conversation
-Amy Schumer says she wears a size 18 -Oh no way she looks like she must be a 10-12 to me
Talk about her comedy but her appearance and weight- why does that matter?

I'm 5'7" and 170lbs. I'm in a 12 maybe 14 depending on the store and generally a large. While I may joke that I look (and at times feel like) a beached whale, I'm not technically plus size, while I am considered obese. If I compare myself to her photo shot by Annie L. with the coffee mug, we are very similar in build, my boobs are bigger, which could explain the 10 lbs If she is wearing a 6-8, I'd love for her to tell me which stores she shops at, because it would be a lovely ego boost for me to buy something in a single digit size.

It doesn't "matter" to me, but if you listen to her stand up and her interviews she talks about her weight a lot. She mentions how Hollywood has tried to get her to lose weight, work with a trainer, etc. It is reassuring for me to see someone "real" in Hollywood. The media is always saying she looks fabulous and I like following her fashion sense, because I'm a similar build and buying things on size 00 mannequins is hard to get an idea of what it really looks like on a normal person.
bashing her to say she is lying? I'm not a fan of that. She does keep the discussion on weight and Hollywood 'ideals' real though.

I weigh the same as the weight Amy quoted and I am a few inches shorter. I am a pretty solid size 10 - occasionally smaller, occasionally bigger, but mostly a 10. I have a pretty balanced build and I lift a lot. I have no problem believing she is the size she says. And, I understand her being upset about being labeled as plus sized. I have been plus-sized in the past

I only read the first few. I'm 5 feet tall. Weigh about 175. I wear a 12 in pants, between 12-14 in dresses. She's got me by 7 inches and weighs less. I totally buy size 6-8.

She kind of annoyed me when her entire act is so dirty and then some kid made a joke on twitter, "Just spent the night with Amy Schumer. I pretty sure I'm not the only guy to say that..." and then she responded back, "Oh yeah, right because I'm a whore?" Honey your whole movie, most of your act is based on sleeping around. Lighten up! You aren't the first person I've heard say that (about Amy's reaction to that guy's comment). I just don't think that's fair. When Amy is performing, she creates a persona. Her acts and her character in Trainwreck, with the bad behavior, promiscuity, etc. is just that, an act. Amy was kind to that kid on the red carpet, and then he wrote a a sort of leering tweet about her as a person, not a character from a movie. He was out of line. But he's also young and he apologized, trying to explain himself. I actually thought she was pretty gentle with him. If my 17 year old wrote something like that about a woman just because she played a promiscuous part in a movie, I would have a real problem with that. Actually I would if he wrote that tweet about anyone. I get what you are saying but I thought the 17 year-old kid was making a joke (ill advised as it was) about the persona she's created. But I reread the tweet and her follow-up to his apology and she was cool about it.
