I am considering a new business, something I can do from home, and would like to pick your Pea brains, if you don't mind. I kinda screwed up when creating the poll -- the top answer is my real question, not an answer option (obvious, I hope!). But I can't figure out how to edit the poll.

I only picked one because all I really care about is something that is going to protect my phone. I always had cute cases and nothing bad ever happened to my phone(knock wood) but I did break and/or beat up several cases. I decided to be invest in the case that the people in the Apple store recommended. It is really unattractive and didn't come in a lot of color options, but I feel that my phone is safe.

I have a rubbery phone. It is so soft to hold and even though it's a big phone, it doesn't bother my little hand. I love the feel of it. My son has a similar kind of case. BIL has a similar one to me. BFF has a hard plastic case with rose gold flakes (her's is very pretty!)

I picked the last option about the rubberised edge but that's not totally accurate. I always look for protection first and foremost, which to me means a wallet-type cover with a magnetic closure and then also a cover over the screen. After that, colour and pattern is runs a very close second for me.

One of the main things I wondered about was having a screen cover. I've always wanted a hard plastic screen cover, along with rubberized edge protection, and have never broken a screen or phone, despite probably hundreds of drops. So it is interesting to see to me that the screen cover isn't as important to others.

None of the answers really fitted with the way I choose a case except price ... I buy cheap and replace every year or so when the case looks tatty. The most important factor for me is that the screen is protected but with a touch screen, I don't like anything over the screen, so I favour a wallet style case. My phone fits in to a plastic surround which protects the edges and a wallet bit folds over. It opens like a book, and gives me a couple of slots for cards and space to put a few bank notes. It meet all my needs.

I have one similar to Jockscrap although I do have a rather lovely, slightly blingy/sparkly screen cover which is just a plastic sheet. I paid more than I normally would because it was leather and the colours complimented my purse and credit card wallet. I'm glad I spent a bit more this time because I've had it for almost 3 years and is still in great condition, although looking closely at it now it could do with a clean.

I currently have an otterbox case. The hard rubberized edges also protect the screen, so that would be #1. It was only available in plain black and pink, which I dislike. So, given that I can already get a protective case, I would also want a cute pattern.

Can I choose protective edge 3 times? It's *that* important to me! Another otterbox user here. DH just got a new phone and texted me from the store while finishing the transaction. He has dropped and broken so many darn phones, I asked him to stay seated with it until he had it encased in an otterbox defender case. He already had A very distant 2nd would be the color.

Something in a pretty color ( with or without a simple design) that protects my phone and isn't too bulky.

My phone is in a utilitarian, battleship gray BodyGlove case that doesn't even show the Apple logo -- it encases the whole thing. It's butt-ugly, but it has saved my phone several times when I've dropped it on pavement and even brick steps. I refuse to jinx myself by changing it out for something more attractive.
I guess I'm willing to keep an ugly case, too, because I consider my phone to be a utility rather than an accessory. I'm not knocking anyone with a pretty or fun case. It's just not anything that matters to me. I only voted for the two safety features above.

I don't want a screen protector on my phone.
I want good protection, but I don't want to take away from the features or usability of the phone in any way. The cases I have used have all been by Speck - sleek, rounded edges, raised rubber rim around it, but not bulky or clunky in any way - I carry my phone in my front pocket and it needs to slide in and out easily.
And they come in very nice patterns or varied color combos, depending on which you choose. The pattern/color is a huge factor in my choice.

I don't know how to answer. Lol.
I have a clear, cheap $10 case with a tempered glass screen protector. I've had it for for 4-5 months and it still looks great.
On the otherhand, over the years, I've damaged 3 expensive otterboxes and find they are not worth the cost.
For one of my previous phones, I did make a personalized case using photos. I bought it from an online photo processing type place. I loved that case. I have thought about making some vinyl decals to put a few tiny paw prints on my current case.
Well. That was of no help was it?

So, given that I can already get a protective case, I would also want a cute pattern. Just bought a black ottobox last Saturday at the insistence of my DIL. I thought I didn't need such a bulky case until I cracked the glass cover that I had installed when I bought the phone. There was no other color choice, but now my phone is secure.

I've found that the cases that include a screen cover don't give you great 'touch' to the screen. I'd rather purchase a separate screen protector (currently have a Zagg glass one).

I don't have one, but my husband does. It's all about keeping it safe first and price second. Looks don't enter into it.

I have a cheap smart-ish phone that I paid less than $10 new for - I don't bother with a case
DH and DS have iphones - they both went with Otterbox and if I ever get a phone worth protecting, I'll do the same
colour/design etc... don't matter to me - I'm all about protection

For me, the rubberized bumper is the most important factor, not only because it offers better protection if you drop your phone, but also because it's grippy and this helps me keep from dropping it. I don't really think of my phone as a fashion accessory, so I don't care about having a cutesy or pretty case. I have a $5 gray case from Monoprice.
ETA: Also, the rubberized bumper protects the screen so I don't have to have a screen cover, which I find annoying. My phone is 4 or 5 years old and the screen is perfect.

I have always used the adhesive type screen protector (applied separate from the case). I use a speck case with a rubber edge and inside (but slim and slick compared to an otter box). Had to replace the screen protector once, but my phone survived bouncing down into the engine compartment on our lawn mower when I hit a big bump!!! Not a scratch on it. I drop it more than I would like to admit and the case's raised edge has always protected the screen from breaking. I know it isn't 100% but between the number of phone repair places around now and how quickly a phone can be upgraded these days, all risks I take. I do think there is a hole in the market when it comes to cute but functional cases. I see lots that I like but without that raised edge and shock absorbing liner- no go for me.

The biggest thing that I consider when buying cases for my phones are if they're waterproof and if they're drop proof. We have Lifeproof cases on all our phones. They're expensive, but worth it because they're pretty sturdy. We have 3 small kids who play with our phones and they drop them all the time. We also have a pool, and we use our phones to take tons of pictures in the summer. I want to make sure the phone will not die if it gets wet! . I really love that I can take it underwater and take hilarious shots of my kids being goofballs!

Not a big case buyer. My iPhone 4 I had the free plastic bumper cover supplied by Apple to fix the antenna problem. iPhone 5 was naked the entire 2 years I used it. iPhone 6 I have the basic leather bumper cover from Apple.

I use the Otterbox Commuter and that's the only case I will probably ever use. I'm purse adverse so my phone is usually in my pocket and I can't slip it in and out of my pocket with a bulky, blinged out case. I have never used a screen protector, don't care about price or style and have never broken a phone but I like the protection of the Otterbox because there are times the phone would have broken if it weren't for the case.

Otterbox all the way for us because of the warranty. DH had a string of Otterbox Defender cases for his old 4s (always replaced free when he broke them). Then he upgraded his phone to a 6+ and didn't get an Otterbox for it because the Apple Store didn't sell them. About six months in he dropped the phone screen side down on our tiled kitchen floor and cracked the glass. Then he discovered that Apple Care does NOT cover screen replacement 100%, it's prorated. Oops. It was an expensive mistake that we won't make again. He's really hard on both phones and cases.

Protective but not overly bulky Good looking Decent price (under $30)
I prefer to use a glass screen protector separate from my case. If a case included a screen protector (even if it was plastic) that was well-reviewed and and fit perfectly with the case, that would definitely move it up to the top of my list (if it met the other criteria).

With the screen taken care of, what I really want now is a cute cover that will protect the rest of the phone. which to me means a wallet-type cover with a magnetic closure This is my favorite type of phone cover. For my first iPhone I used a red leather case with a cover I could just flip back. Since then I've tried Otterbox (those plastic film screen covers get dingy and scratched too quickly for the cost) and cute Kate Spade covers with the tempered glass screen protectors. If the cost of a good leather wallet type cover weren't so expensive in relation to how long I have a phone, I'd go back to that as it was my favorite of all the cases I've had.

I have a wallet type case that folds over the screen and has a magnetic clasp ro keep it closed. It holds my dl, cards, and money. I also have the independent tempered glass screen protector.
I have a Samsung Galaxy S5 Sport which is waterproof so I don't need that option in a case where others might.
I don't carry a purse all the time so having my ohone in my wallet is great for me.
I think it was $15.00 on Amazon. It's pink and I love it. Drop my phone all the time and not a scratch.
