Our council is voting whether to allow people with 0.137 acre would be allowed to keep 2 goats. Males would have to be neutered. Do you think allowing people who live close together should be allowed to keep goats?
I think it's a great idea as long as they keep the area clean, they owners license them (you license a dog, right?) and don't breed them. (They can't breed them on the property because the males' urine(?) or the goats themselves will smell and the neighbours won't like that.)
I think it's a fun idea.

.137 acre? No way. How close are the houses with lots that size? Can you even walk around the perimeter?
My former next door neighbors used to have a couple of goats. I don't feel like we have big enough yards for that, with about 1/3-acre lots. I can't even imagine with only 1/6 of an acre!

From the pov of the neighbours or the suitability for the goats?
As long as neighbours don't have to put up with smell/noise and that's enough room for the goats to live healthy lives, why not?

I'm not goatist but I vote no, goats need a lot of room to do goat stuff. They love to run and jump and climb trees/mountains, a back yard is not the place for them imo. Plus they will need some kind of shelter, I believe goats don't do well in rainy conditions, and that will take away some of their exercise space.

And I love farm animals, goats especially. That's not enough space and it's not being a good neighbor.

If kept properly and well goats won't smell. Certainly less smelly than an unkept chicken coop. And way, way less than the unkept 8 cats who almost gassed me last week. It's important to keep any animal properly for the health and safety if both animal and people. In a 'city' the goats will have to be cleaned up after daily. Just like when you bring them to a fair or a show, daily cleaning. Period.
I do however, think males, even neutered can be hazardous. It depends heavily on the owner and frankly after seeing asshats with untrained unkept dogs, I can't trust 'owners' to do the right thing. Billy goats can be freakin nasty as bulls, and just st as dangerous, especially if they retain thier horns. So I wouldn't allow those at all if it were me.
I grew up on a goat farm, had 3 as pets, our first was a rescue infant goat whose mother died. We had to feed her round the clock for the first month. She was house trained and leash trained. She was wonderful and would have been less trouble than a dog.

Goats (Even tiny breeds) need more space than that, and given their (extremely) inquisitive nature, a lot that small wouldn't offer them what they need. And if the goats I now are anything to go by, they would get into all kinds of mischief to entertain themselves.

In a yard that small? Not for regular sized goats. Nigerian Dwarf goats might work, especially if the owner took the time to walk them daily - they will walk on a leash like a dog.

Goats do not belong in a back yard in the city ... My BIL had them on his acreage, which is out of the city limits, and they still got into trouble For example, one kid left the back door open and they came home to find goats standing on the dining room table But I do think that goats are super cute so I guess I'm a goatist too

See, now I want to get a dwarf goat so I can walk it like a dog and all the neighbors will crack up. I could also rent him out to mow and organically fertilize lawns. Win-win. I voted no. That seems like a really small city lot. I have 1/3 of an acre and I doubt any goat would be happy with an area that small.

My brother used to have goats on a 300+ acre ranch and so that is my viewpoint. Two goats need much more than 1/7th of an acre. We have a little more than 1 acre and even then I can't imagine having the space for 1 goat. So I voted no because the space is just too small. If our little township (which has land use ordinances that all houses must be on at least 1 acre) put it up for a vote, I would probably vote yes since some homesteads are more than 1 acre.
And in our town, our animals do not have to be licensed but they do have to have updated Rabies vacinnations.

I want goats in the city. I love that idea. The lot size is too small. It needs to be about double that.

I personally have nothing against goats--I think they're cute and sassy--but that does seem like a really small area for them.

I have heard goats called demons straight from hell... So I'm thinking the Devil's minions might need a little more space.

Seattle is the land of urban goats and chicken farms. I have lots of neighbors with one or the other (and pigs!), and I have never noticed that they even had them without expressly being invited back to meet them. It's a big city and our house lots are small.
I can't say the same for neighbors with outdoor cats, and there are some dogs who make their presence known.
Well, except for in the case of my neighbor who takes her pig for walks. But that is a different story.

I love goats and use goat milk in my soaps. I vote No. I think they need more room to roam and play and just be goats. I'm really working on my DH to move to the country so I can have a small hobby farm. A few goats, chickens and maybe a few other animals. I've always been a city girl, but as I get older I have this need for space and quiet country.

We have neighbors here in Los Angeles that have three dwarf goats. We love the goats. We also have neighbors with chickens. It is fun having livestock in suburbia. Oh, and then there is Peg the Pig. She is a little possessive of her owner but still likes a scratch. Unlike a lot of the cats in my neighborhood, she is an indoor pig.

No. I live on a farm and we have goats. I like them. If properly kept they don't smell worse than any other animal unless you have a billy that is peeing on himself. They need more space than that. They love to run and climb. You also need a really good fence to keep them in. They love to roam and are really good at finding even the smallest opening to escape. Our goats are big babies who carry on when they see us coming thinking we are bringing them treats. They can also be loud. We don't mind listening to them but they are our goats, a close neighbor may not appreciate it so much.

Not on that size lot, no.
My parents' neighbors have goats, but they live on 5 acres, and my parents live on 10. Goats need room!

A yard that tiny is going to make for some bored, troublesome goats. It's not in the animal's best interest to be kept in such a small space, smell or no smell.

I love goats. I would not want the smell and fecal matter of a goat next door. Some people have a hard time cleaning up dog poo for weeks/months. Don't want to add goat to that. I could live next door to a horse. I love that smell.

My yard is about that big. I live in the city. I would not be happy if goats were allowed in the city.

That is absolutely too small of a space for keeping goats. I spent quite a bit of time this winter interacting with a neighbor whose herd of 24 goats was constantly getting out and roaming the area behind my home. Problem was his fences were too weak (goats are escape artists) and they were kept in too small of a pasture (about 2 acres) and had overgrazed the area thus looking for the proverbial "greener pastures." I'm in a rural area but close enough to a highway there were a few close calls for those goats. In a suburban area that kind of a scenario could be deadly for humans and goats. Goats just aren't meant to be backyard pets.
