I know we've had this conversation on the old board, but not on this new one I don't think. I'm always surprised when people comment that they never ever re-read books. I have so many old favorites that I re-read from time to time and I can't imagine not doing that. My favorites to re-read: -- Lord of the Rings -- Chronicles of Narnia -- all Harry Potter -- Agatha Christie, but only Miss Marple -- Mitford Chronicles -- Armageddon (the one by Leon Uris about the Berlin Airlift) -- The Winds of War, and War and Remembrance -- The Source, and The Covenant -- The Watchers, but only the chapters about the dog. I've read the whole book, obviously, but for a re-read I just like to read about the dog. Also a few kids' books: -- The Little Princess -- A Secret Garden -- Snow Treasure -- A Tree Grows in Brooklyn There are others but these are the ones that leaped to my mind immediately without having to think about it. I own all of these except for the Miss Marple books, so it's easy to just pull one off the shelf when I feel like reading it. So what are some books you like to re-read? I want to see people's lists because I know I'll want to add some books to my list of "to read" (as if it isn't already long enough. oy...)

I re-read books as if I am visiting old friends.

My favourite book ever is The Country Child by Alison Uttley. I must have read it at least 20 times. It is a children's book, but I love it.

Great Expectations Bleak House A Prayer for Owen Meany The Cider House Rules To Kill a Mockingbird The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn The Great Gatsby Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
I know there are more but these are the ones that I've probably read more than 5 or 6 times each.

I don't re-read a lot of books just because I have a long list of new books that I want to read. The one big exception is The Lord of the Rings. I have probably read it 10 or so times.

I used to reread, but these days I have such limited time to read, that I'd rather check out something new.

I love to reread Harry Potter. My books ended up lost when we moved. I've finally found some of them. Maybe I'll start them again since today us Harry's birthday. As for children's books, I have yet to get tired if reading The Tale of Despereaux or Frindle to my class. I've even read them out loud to my husband on car trips. *wanders off to find Harry Potter*

I don't mind rereading books, but right now I have a list a mile long of new books I want to read. When I do reread, it's usually old mystery series that I remember loving. Every now and then, I'll pick up old classics again.

There are only a few adult books that I have reread so far. I love reading and am always reading something new from my shelves.

I only keep books in the house that I will re-read. My list: The Jungle A Son of the Circus (which isn't John Irving's most famous or popular book but it's my favorite of his) A Prayer for Owen Meany To Kill a Mockingbird Harry Potter series Till We Meet Again (total fluff by Judith Krantz but I love this book a ridiculous amount and I've read it a gazillion times) The Red Tent The Dark Tower series and anything Bill Bryson has ever written

I must be deranged lol, because the majority of books that I re-read are series of books, and long ones at that. Ones I've read multiple times: Harry Potter The Amelia Peabody books by Elizabeth Peters In Death series by JD Robb I'll also admit to re-listening to the audio version of Deeper than the Dead (Tami Hoag) because I absolutely LOVE the voice she gives to one of the main characters. As in girl crush on the super-hot man voice this lady does lol. I know it's bizarre. Good thing is it's a three book series so far, so plenty of listening time there. When I was a kid I read the Little House and Anne of Green Gables books multiple times. And about once a year I'll pull out an old Penny Jordan book that always makes me cry.

A few that I can think of are
the Anne of Green Gables series the Betsy, Tacey & Tibb series Having It All by Helen Gurley Brown most of Jennifer Weiner's books and yes, a few of Danielle Steele's (there - I admit it)
dulcemama, my hat is off to you - I barely got thru Great Expectations once!

Well it is obvious I read totally different books then you guys. I like the murder mystery time. Lisa Jackson and Lisa Gardner type and I will reread the series. Right now I think I am going to go back and reread the Jack Reacher series by Lee Childs.
My memory is not the best so I remember the people but not the way it ends lol.
Its a good thing cause books are expensive.

I've read The Thornbirds so many times, it's falling apart. I also read The Amityville Horror about a dozen times when I was a kid. Other books I've read multiple times include To Kill A Mockingbird, The Great Gatsby, The Count of Monte Cristo, 1984, A Time To Kill, The Firm, The Pelican Brief, many of Danielle Steele's earlier books when I was in my 20's, and a few of Nora Roberts/JD Robb's books. Like a previous poster said, it's like visiting old friends.

I stop and re-read a Stephen King favorite every October. Favorites are Salem's Lot, Insomnia, Needful Things, The Stand... so many. I have a ton of new things to read here here, so I don't get to re-read often. Not as often as I'd like. When I go back and re-read King, there's so much I've forgotten, it's practically a new book.

I reread books all the time. I have such a terrible memory that it's like reading it for the first time. I mainly reread series books just before a new one comes out.
My two favorite rereads are currently:
Outlander series Black Dagger Brotherhood series

I re-read history non-fiction,my all time favorite. My fiction runs to mysteries and there are so many good ones I can hardly keep up - actually I can't keep up.

I rarely reread books. I just feel like there is too much that I haven't read to go back and reread things. However, a few months ago on Two Peas someone was asking for recommendations for books about WWII and I suggested John Steinbeck's The Moon is Down.
I sat down and reread The Moon is Down and thoroughly enjoyed it. I thought I probably should reread more often.

It's interesting to see that several of the books others have mentioned are ones I return to as well.
A Prayer For Owen Meany The Winds of War and War and Remembrance The Thorn Birds Gone To Soldiers by Marge Piercy. (This is such a big thick book that has been read by myself, my BFF, my DM and my SIL so many times that it's too fragile to hold. I need to buy a new copy!) Many of Ed McBain's early 87th Precinct novels Second Ending, The Blackboard Jungle, and Sons and Daughters, all by Evan Hunter.

I like to re-read books, too. I have noticed now with my nook that I don't re-read like I used to since I am always downloading free books. I have way too many books loaded that I haven't read yet!

I re-read anything by Judith McNaught. I own all her books and I've read them so many times. In fact a couple weeks ago, I was doing a major purge which included a lot of books and my sister saw me putting some books on the shelf and she asked why I wasn't getting rid of those and I told her because they are my favorite books. There are a few others by other Authors but can't remember the names.
I've also read The Diary of Anne Frank quite a few times.

The only one that comes to mind is Rage of Angels by Sidney Sheldon. I read it then loaned it to a friend. She returned it one day and I started reading it again and finished it in the wee hours of the night ~ when I was supposed to be studying for a final. Sheldon's books are such easy reads and so entertaining!
