I think the dress is inappropriate for being a news anchor. It is a party dress, not business dress. BUT, I also think her clothing choice should have been addressed off camera either before or after she did her bit.

I think she looked ridiculous. That's not work appropriate. Someone should have addressed it before she went on air.
I don't think it's discriminatory. I doubt they'd let a male meteorologist wear something inappropriate.

I notice that meteorologist tend to fall in a different category than the anchor people. The one for our local channel often wears the strangest combination. And it seemed at one time weather girls were picked for their looks.

I don't get it - why do women who do weather reports always dress like they are going to a Bachelorette party in Vegas? That dress is just silly. It looks like she was out the night before and forgot she had to be at work early and ran in from a club. All that being said, it's not professional to handle it the way they did.

I think the dress was very unprofessional. Why someone didn't handle it before she went on-air is beyond me, though.

Yea, now THAT is not business casual. ha. I thought it looked like something she got home in the morning wearing from the night out. The walk of shame. But yes, they could have handled it better, vs the on air shaming.

On one of our local morning news shows, we often see anchors & reporters wearing all kinds of "party" looking clothes with really bizarre blazer combos over them. DH and I often joke about them going straight from the club to work in the morning and thinking no one will notice if they put on a blazer. But this is the same am show that has had several clips go viral for their bloopers and antics. They actually do a recap at the end of the last show each month with all of their outtakes & shenanigans. But people watch.. Just to see what will happen next!

At least it wasn't green or she would have turned into the map.
They should have handed her the sweater once her segment was finished. I majored in journalism with a focus in broadcasting and even tank tops were frowned upon for on air reporting.

She just looks stupid. I envision a walk of shame taking place, with her barely making it to work, wearing last night's outfit that she had to find on the floor of Random Guy's apartment.

That's not a work dress. That's a cocktail dress. You shouldn't wear it alone to work. She could have put a cardigan or a jacket on with it and it would have been ok maybe.

I am all for women's freedom of choice but that "choice" seems misguided. If I saw that dress early in the morning, I would think she never went home after a night out on the town and forgot to bring proper work clothes!

Liberte is our local meteorologist. the funny thing is, she is usually the most conservative dresser out of the other women who do the weather on that channel. she is a really sweet, soft spoken person and believe me, she is usually not dressed like this. others wear far more questionable clothing. those in the area know what I'm talking about (Vera, I'm talking to you).

I agree with others, she should have been told before or after, not during. That is embarrassing for her. I do not think anything sleeveless is appropriate for the professional workplace. Just my thought.

The news station said the whole thing was a joke. That it is the kind of humor the station has.
No one complained about her dress.
Her coworker handed her the sweater as a joke.
She wore it for that segment, then took it off and finished the rest of the newscast in that dress without the sweater.

I took the station's response as a joke aimed at those who complained. I agree, they were making fun of the complainers.
I can't quite believe that people have nothing better to do than think about/worry about or email a news show to complain about what someone is wearing - but apparently they do. Of course I look at their clothes and sometimes will think "I like that colour" or "that skinny belt isn't doing her any favours" but it wouldn't cross my mind to write in and tell them.
It's been mentioned here quite a bit that the female TV presenter get daily comments via email or social media about what they are wearing. One male presenter made a point - he wore the exact same outfit every day he was on air for a year, and no-one noticed. Not one single email LINK
Good to see that most of the women who post here are just as sexist as the general TV viewing public.

It's ludicrous that they did that on air. It didn't feel like making fun of the complainers to me; it felt demeaning to her. The dress may not be ideal for on camera, but a dress that messed with the green screen would have been even worse, so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. Sometimes things aren't perfect. It's not like her boobs or lady garden were on display; it was the weather report in a less-than-ideal-on-air dress. WhyTF people complain about stuff like that, I will never understand.
I have a friend who is a female news anchor and you would not believe the shit she is subjected to from viewers. When she had a baby, she didn't lose the weight fast enough. Or she came back to work too soon/not soon enough. Or her makeup is not enough/too much. Or her hair is not flattering/too long/too short/not stylish enough. Or she wore the same suit two times in a moth. Or when she lost weight, she lost too much. And on and on and on and on.
It's unbelievable what the public thinks they are entitled to comment upon.
And the anchors keep track - at the last count, the women get 12x the feedback from viewers on their appearance as the men do.

The wardrobe issue should have been dealt with during the make up time/session.
Both anchor Michelle Dube & weather person Dana Levension (sp?) on CTV TORONTO NEWS, wear sleeveless dresses all the time. It is hot under the lights in the studio.
Most of the time the clothing is sponsored by a company & details/credits are shown in the credits ending the show.

It a nice dress, but I don't think that's professional attire at all. She had planned to wear another dress that had caused issues with the green screen. This was a last-minute wardrobe change. In that line of work, they should have backup outfits ready for that very problem. She had a great attitude about the whole thing though (bottom of article). I remember watching one newscaster reporting on location wearing a very nice overcoat. The cameraman mistakenly panned back a bit to far and you could she was wearing some cotton sweatpants underneath.

If you read the story, you'll see that she had a different dress for the forecast but it wouldn't' work with the green screen. I guess this is probably just what she had available. The cardigan was a joke given to her by the anchor. The station did not make her put it on live on the air.
Was it the best choice? No, it looked like a club dress. However, everything was covered up nicely, not even a smidge of cleavage so I don't know why anyone would get all worked up. If you don't like it, roll your eyes and move on.
I'm getting so tired of women being held to some standard by their LOOKS but men are only held to a standard of how their job is done.

I got the impression, that due to the green screen issue, she changed into the only other dress she had available to her. A director, floor producer should have noticed it and given her the sweater before she went on air though.

I took the station's response as a joke aimed at those who complained. I think it might have been. There are other clips of her and an anchorman making fun of the emails and imthink it may have been the anchorman handing her the cardigan. Also, from the video she talks about having a "demure" dress picked out but just before going on air there was an issue with it and someone (I assume at the station) produced that dress for her as an emergency back up.

I don't honestly understand how she doesn't have a wardrobe that specifically works with a green screen - she only had two choices and this was one of them? I mean aren't weather-casters in front of the green screen 90+% of the time?
I just don't see where that dress is professional for any on-air personality unless she is covering a charity event or an awards show. Have to wonder why it was even in her work wardrobe as a choice.
I haven't seen male newscasters dressed in anything less than professional clothes, or I would comment on it. I can't even come up with a likely example because I haven't seen one.
