I'm tempted. We're buying a house! And we haven't told DH's sisters or my mom or any of my siblings. And the kids haven't mentioned it to any of them yet either. So, have you ever let the extended family learn about the new address after the fact? It's not like they're going to volunteer to help us move, ... so why not have a little fun ?

My grandmother moved and I found out a month later from my friend who was friends with one of my cousins. she didn't intentionally not tell us, but my grandmother has never been a very linear person and she just didn't tell us.

The most I did w/out telling my family was apply for & accept a job. Not a biggie for some people, but in my family where we tell each other practically everything, it was a surprise.
I think if you find cute change of address cards, that would be cool. Did you plan a neat way to tell them?
Congrats on the new house!

No, I haven't thought about how to tell them. Hmmm. If you have any ideas, I'm open to hearing them

Personally, until you're actually moving into the house, I'm not sure I WOULD tell anyone. What if the sale falls through or something?

We downsized for a year in anticipation of moving. We told my dad, because he was living in the area we were moving to and he was checking out condos for us to possibly purchase for our future home. My mom was also told, because that was NOT something I could spring on her at the last minute, as she and I are very close. No one else was told until it was time to tell them.

You are staying in town? Not that big of a deal then. I'd send address changes to them. Take a picture of the house and send it as a postcard.
