Any consultants on board? Can you confirm? Sad.

I have a friend who has been a consultant for 8 years. She announced the Silpada closing news last night on Facebook.
I have some Silpada pieces, and I love all of them.

There are some Silpada earrings that I want! I need to order quickly! And I have been coveting the Chacha bracelet for years and now it is a retired piece.

Good! Sorry but I am a jewelry designer and nothing makes me more mad when I pay a lot of money to do a show and there are jewelry resellers next to my one of a kind pieces. They aren't even in the same style as mine but it bugs me when people are looking at my stuff and then drop it and run over to Silpada.

Agreed, I hate to see MLM sellers at art/craft fairs too (well, except tastefully simple, I'm a sucker for their dip mixes and am always happy to see them ). I do like Silpada jewelry, but I find it extremely overpriced for what it is - fairly typical of an MLM though. Don't they have some kind of "guarantee" on their jewelry not breaking/turning? I guess now people are just SOL?
I'm really curious about the life of the MLM though, I remembered a few that I haven't seen in a long time like "The Body Shop" or "Partylite" - did those go out of business too? It seems like there are a LOT more now than there were when I was growing up though, I only remember Tupperware in the 80s/90s. Now there's pampered chef, premiere, origami owl, tastefully simple, posh, scentsy, etc. Were there always that many and I'm just now noticing?

I'm not very familiar with Silpada, but I do remember seeing it occasionally at local craft shows.
I LOVE going to craft shows, especially in the fall. I HATE going to craft shows that have a large number of MLMs. In fact, I have stopped going to a number of well established area shows because of the dominance of MLMs at the shows.
It's so hard for a hand-crafter to compete with an MLM. And I know that I'm not the only one that refuses to go to those shows, further hurting the hand craft vendors.

When was The Body Shop ever MLM? They've been a store in the mall at least since I was in high school. Partylite is still around.

I'm not surprised, I never get invited to Silpada parties any more but know several people selling Stella and Dot.

A friend of mine was one, and I went to her parties. She quit, so I have no idea if the home parties are going on or not.

We always had parties at work and everyone wore the same stuff. I ordered one necklace and was good.

I like them and have a few things. I had some earrings break and they replaced them quickly. So much for the lifetime guarantee, bummer

I just checked and they still do. Interesting.
