I'm not sure if this is seen as news across the pond or not, maybe it was seen as all but assured anyway, but I'm seeing reports that he now has the required number of delegates to make him the Republic nominee. I really didn't think this day would come. The Telegraph

So happy my obsession with zombie t.v shows/movies/books is going to come in handy. Surely this is the first sign of the coming apocalypse (yes, that was said tongue in cheek for any Trump supporters out there).
But I will say seriously, nope, don't know what to say. Words are failing me, at least any words I can say in polite company.

I'm a Republican and this just baffles me as well. Especially with all we had to choose from starting out.

It's like the vote for the worst campaign decided to move over to politics when the found out American Idol was ending. that's it. I"m blaming Fox for the downfall of American politics. If they had just held on one more year we wouldn't be in the position.

I'm a Republican and this just baffles me as well. Especially with all we had to choose from starting out. I think one of the problems is so many of the original 17 (18?) candidates were essentially the same candidate. There really wasn't much to choose from between most of them. They were clones of each other and that candidate type didn't have the support of most Republicans and fewer independents. Add that to the general dissillusionment to the status quo in Washington along a little bit of celebrity worship and Trump rises to the top. Last summer I thought this was just a complete sideshow and said there was no way he was going to be the candidate so I'm eating my words now and refusing to predict the future. I was enthusiastically following this election and can barely get through news updates now.

It was said in the news recently, that if you were to remove Donald Trump from the equation, this is the story that would be causing a panic (Hillary's erasing of emails & security breaches and lying about them). Have we discovered Trump’s special purpose?

I saw it coming. I can't believe this is what has happened to the Republican party on a national level. It's so sad because at state and local levels there are some really decent people that I vote for instead of Democrats.

I have yet to hear anyone gush over this man. The vast majority of people can't tolerate him. Where are all of the "level-headed" Americans?
Blows my mind.

For some, I believe it's a genuine support. Others, I think they're hoping to totally crash the system as we know it. Destroy the Republicans forever. Given how they've been acting for the last decade or so, I can't say I blame them. It does look like desperation but sometimes, big change needs desperation in order to happen.

I'm going to hold out hope that a good chunk of the people who voted for him did so to troll the Republican Party. I cannot wrap my head around he idea that there are so many hate filled people in this country that they would happily vote for this guy. I just don't get it.

It's less "Make America Great Again" and more "TRUMP YOURS!" I agree and I'm surprised that otherwise intelligent people either cannot grasp this fact or else refuse to accept it. The support of Donald Trump is a direct result of current politics and socio-political nonsense in this country. And I will vote for him rather than give my support to someone like Hillary Clinton.

I have been surprised at some of the people I know who are going to vote for him. These are intelligent people. Their thought is that the next president will likely appoint up to 3 people for the Supreme Court and they don't want Hillary to have that power. Other people have said they attended a rally just for kicks and came away surprised at how their feelings changed about him.
Don't expect anyone on 2Peas to come on this thread or the board and defend why they are voting for him since you guys think anyone who could possibly think of voting for him is a moron. I bet some of the people who plan to vote for him might surprise you.

I am concerned with Mr. Trump's comments and stance with foreign leaders of both our allies and our not-so-allies. I worry that some of his rhetoric will cause irreparable harm to relationships and cause conflicts-it won't be Mr. Trump or his sons or daughters who will end up fighting in those wars, it will be mine.

I know there are people out here who legitimately support him because I'm related to a bunch of them. I don't really have anything flattering to say about WHY they support him, so rather than offend a bunch of people here whose mind I will never change anyway, I'll just say that they support him because his rhetoric mirrors their own personal convictions.

It's not over yet. There are things that can still happen at the convention to install someone else as the nominee--votes aren't sealed up until they are official...there's a process. Unbound delegates...possible rule changes...etc.
It could be very dramatic.

I think that he will have a very difficult time "handling" things, he will find himself up against people both foreign and domestic that are much smarter, savvy and won't put up with his bullshit.

I'm going to hold out hope that a good chunk of the people who voted for him did so to troll the Republican Party. Okay, I hadn't actually considered this theory before, nor read anything that suggested it. Do you really think that it is a possibility that people voted for him in the primaries to turn people away from the Republican party and therefore secure a Democratic win? I can see that as a possibility.

Unbound delegates...possible rule changes...etc. It could be very dramatic. As a lifelong Republican I hope that happens but it's a slippery slope there too. Then people will say we're not honoring the process of nominating a candidate (which needs an overhaul anyway if you ask me) I also think Trump would run third party and split the vote anyway. I imagine people in other countries have to be thinking, "This is the best you can do America?" on both candidates. Foreign relations would be a nightmare with Trump. As an at least three generation Republican I am weeping for our nation. Trump and his followers (which from what I've experienced are equally hateful) have polarized our party in ways I'm not sure we can recover from. It's awful to see happening. I have to admit to that it's changed my view of a few people supporting him. (Namely my aunt, my uncle is in a never Hillary camp which I could understand had Trump not been the candidate). I've been attacked, called names, etc. for my opinion when I never addressed anything except Trump's character and why I won't vote for him. There's a quote that evil triumphs when good man do nothing. I feel this is true in this situation. I don't think anyone thought he would get this far but now that he has what will we do about it? There has to be a better option than just sitting out this election.
