This is my first official post!! I was a pea years ago (AvonMom, #86, ) but when the site closed I wasn't really visiting that often anymore so I just found this site a few months ago! Anyway...back to the post! I was reading the coloring craze thread and I have some books at home but no pencils. Anyone have suggestions on decent colored pencils that won't break the bank? Does anyone use markers? Just curious...

I love my prismacolor pencils. I've seen people use sharpies, big mark it's, and crayola markers. Heck, you could even use paint if you wanted to I'm sure. There are no rules.

I use a variety of coloring sticks. Crayons, crayola twistables, stabilo fine tip markers, stablio markers, sharpies(I love coloring with sharpies), prisma colored pencils, yoobi colored pencils (the manufacture of this brand will donate the item like you buy to a school for childrens school supplies), gel pens and chalks.
And I am crazy enough to use all of the above on one picture at the same time.

Welcome, tiffanyr! Hope you stick around. I really like prismacolor pencils too but they are rather spendy. It took me quite a while to accumulate most of the colors and I still have a few of the newer colors I want to get eventually. I started out with one of the smaller sets then added to that to get to where I am now. But I love coloring... it's so much fun!

I love the Sharpies but they do tend to bleed through so put some spare paper behind what you are colouring

I use prismacolor pencils and staedtler triplus fineliner markers. I also use my SU markers sometimes.

I used to be able to find them online to link up, but I can't right now, so that worries me that they could be discontinued, although I thought I saw them last time I was in there. Anyhow, I liked them enough for my other crafting that I sold my fancy prismacolor pencils.

I like my Prisma. They blend beautifully. I like my Crayola Twistsble colored pencils a ton too.

I prefer markers, myself. I agree with the others who mentioned Sharpies and Bic Mark-Its as inexpensive choices.
I'm not sure where you live, but you may want to see if there is a Blick art store near you (I know there are several in IL). I'd provide a link, but I'm fighting to stay awake here. Blick is going to have some of the higher end options, but you can try them all out at the store, which is so nice!

I recently saw these recommended as an affordable alternative to prisma colors. I've not used them before, but I ordered them for a friend and she seems happy with them. Soft Core Colored Pencils

I use plain ol' Crayola colored pencils! Fairly cheap, and IMO they work great!
