Biscuit type cake or angel food?
I'm 100% in the biscuit category. I use a recipe for breakfast biscuits and they make the most wonderful shortcake base. DH is an angel food man though.

We are an angel food family and I've also liked it over pound cake. Not such a fan of biscuits, but of course I always "force" myself to eat it anyway.

Biscuit type for sure!
I *think* there's a recipe on the side of the Bisquick box?

Neither. In my family we use pound cake, preferably homemade. This is the only acceptable strawberry shortcake.

I love the biscuit type the best, especially when it soaks up the juice. I will eat any type - grilled pound cake is also great.

Pound cake or Angel food cake! With loads of whip cream! But definately not the little cakes.

I am not a fan of the pre-made spongy cakes they sell in stores. I would prefer poundcake, angel food cake, basic white cake, etc. over those little shells. But my favorite is a biscuit. Overall, I don't like my desserts to be really, really sweet, which is why I prefer the biscuit. I also am not a fan of heavy-handed sugaring of the strawberries for the top. (Although once, when we had some strawberry bread in the house, my kids made shortcake with that, and it was pretty good, too.)

Biscuits with a little sugar added in the mix before baking, strawberries, topped with real unwhipped cream.

I usually eat it with pound cake, but I'm sure I would have no trouble eating it any other way

It's my all time favorite dessert so I'd eat it over cardboard if I had to. But I like it best with the Bisquick shortcake recipe.

Sweet biscuit all the way... Although, I will be honest and admit that I do like pound cake and strawberries too-but only homemade with the crunchy top. Angelfood cake is not okay.

I like it with biscuits or any kind of cake. I had it once with chocolate cupcakes and that was pretty damn good too.

I've never even heard of using biscuits for this. Angel food is all I've used and those little cake things that look like a bowl.

I think it's too sweet with angel food cake or pound cake. Biscuits it is! (And by "biscuits" I mean "Bisquick.")

Here is the easy starter version that is more than worth a try- strawberry shortcake with sweet biscuits. You might not ever buy the little bowl cakes again.

I prefer pound cake over either of them. But given those choices, definitely biscuits. I hate angel food/sponge cake.
