No angel food.
Pound cake first and then biscuits.

Sweet biscuit all the way... Although, I will be honest and admit that I do like pound cake and strawberries too-but only homemade with the crunchy top. Angelfood cake is not okay. All of this. Angel food cake is actually pretty gross in general. Not a fan.

Biscuit for us. I've tried angel food, pound cake, and even a "from scratch" biscuit recipe and everyone asks for the one I make with bisquick.

I grew up in a angel food or white cake household. I few years ago I co worker brought in biscuits for her strawberry shortcake.
I was horrified. Who would eat such a thing??
I prepared to choke down a bite and it was like the heavens opened and I saw the world as I had never seen before.
I am now a multi base conneseur.

My granny made biscuits from scratch for strawberry shortcake. It was (and is) one of my favorite desserts. As a little girl, I couldn't understand why the biscuits weren't so good on their own but turned into pure heaven when soaked in sugared strawberry juice. I do miss my granny.

We used to eat it warm, in a bowl, with a bit of milk instead of whipped cream. Delicious!

Love the biscuits but also like to change things up sometimes and make cream puffs filled with whipped cream and covered with the strawberries

Strawberry shortcake is strawberries over a biscuit type thing. Angel food cake is Not strawberry shortcake, but it is a good desert. Those little round sponge things.... NO!

I'm a biscuit girl. My dad's annual birthday cake is angel food--strawberry shortcake style.

Angel food cake, pound cake or the sponge cake things you can buy at the store. Biscuits aren't popular here. I like biscuits but it sounds wrong to me .

I love the biscuit type the best, especially when it soaks up the juice. I will eat any type - grilled pound cake is also great. We are angel food cake fans here... but grilled or toasted pound cake is pretty delicious. I love how the pound take soaks up the juices. There is ONE thing that is NON-Negotiable. Must be freshly whipped Whipped Cream. NO stuff from a can or good forbid a frozen tub.

I've never even heard of using biscuits for this. Angel food is all I've used and those little cake things that look like a bowl. Oh gosh, you should try it!! Here is the easy starter version that is more than worth a try- strawberry shortcake with sweet biscuits. You might not ever buy the little bowl cakes again. Thank you

Definitely biscuit. There used to be a restaurant chain called Cooker that served biscuits instead of bread before your meal. Those biscuits made the best shortcake base!

I will eat it made with just about anything - but my first choice would be a biscuit base.

Fresh warm biscuit, fresh strawberries - just lightly sprinkled with sugar - I don't like over sugared/syrupy/soft strawberries. Topped with real whipped cream

Well, for me, the base is just the vehicle to hold the strawberries and whipped (real) cream. I'll basically eat anything. But....I will admit that I have never eaten the biscuit type, but it sounds like it has the potential to knock the others right outta the ballpark! Will definitely be trying this!

Born and raised in the strawberry capital of the world, home of the Strawberry Festival during which people line up for miles for Strawberry Shortcake.
The correct answer is biscuit.
