So this small town girl went to her bead show in the big city this weekend. Rather than pay the exorbitant hotel parking fees, I park in a garage one block down that is a little better. The car sits all weekend (I don't go in and out).
The garage is unmanned, with a self-serve kiosk to pay as you leave. Today I pulled up, popped in the little cardboard ticket I received when I entered the garage on Thursday and...it spit back out. I tried a second time with the same result and then noticed "out of service" shown on the display. I saw a call box and hit the "call for service" button. The phone rang about 8 times as I wondered what the heck I was going to do if no one answered, and then there was a buzz and the arm popped up (so I didn't pay anything).
Did I just get 3 days of parking (about $45) on the house? Or do I need to worry about some crazy charge down the road? But of course they have no idea who I am. Do I need to try to figure out how to contact this particular garage in Milwaukee to settle up with them? Help me think this through, peas.

I wouldn't be so sure they don't know who you are; there may be cameras in the garage that were making note of your license plate. Maybe this website will help you out, with contact info if nothing else. www.parkmilwaukee.com/

Does the ticket have contact info on it? They frequently do. You can bet they can find out who you are.. security cameras everywhere and certainly a security camera focused in at rear tag level when you stopped at the gate. I'd try finding a way to contact them. Then if I can't find a contact wait to see if they contact me. But that generally isn't the best option.

Well someone released the arm and let you out. I would wait for them to send me a bill.

I wouldn't worry about it or try to contact them. If they want to get in touch with you, they'll mail you a bill, but that seems incredibly unlikely to me. My guess is some dude making $8 an hour popped it for you because he knew it was busted and it was less of a hassle to just buzz you out than have a conversation over the speaker box about it. No skin off his back.
I've parked in probably hundreds of garages all over the country and weird shit happens with those machines and the people "behind the curtain." I wouldn't give it another thought unless something showed up to make me give it a thought. If you're particularly concerned, I might email myself with a recollection of the events so I had a record, and call tomorrow so you've shown due dilligence. But I don't think calling is necessary, honestly.

I wouldnt worry about it. If they want to find you, they will. They have your license plate and can locate you off of it.
But I bet you never hear anything.

I'm a person who points out a missing charge, or returns to the store after a mistake. And I wouldn't worry about this.
If they track you down, pay it. If they don't, there was some reason they weren't collecting during your exit.
Personally, I've never heard of a privately owned garage contacting anyone. It might be different if it was your hotel garage, and you had car on record with your room. Or maybe it was publicly owned garage attached to your commuter tag.
