Nope, it is the bottom of the bottom of places I would go. Because: I hate humidity I hate heat. I hate them both together
Mix in bugs that could carry off a small child and gators
Plus my asshat brother lives in that state !

If I had the chance to visit, I would, but it's not likely in the near future. I said the same thing in the 'vacation in a terror target' thread - this type of attack is just a part of our world, not just the US, not just Europe, but everywhere. We can't stop living in fear of what might happen. The German football team was caught up in the Nov Paris attacks - they were the team playing France that night - but when they announced an international game here in Munich at Easter, I bought my ticket and went to the game. There was a lot of security, but no more so than regular league games here.

I am so glad to hear this...how this horrible attack potentially will impact tourism is a conversation that is happening right now. Quietly and respectfully to be sure, but still being looked at. Nope, it is the bottom of the bottom of places I would go. Because: I hate humidity I hate heat. I hate them both together Mix in bugs that could carry off a small child and gators Plus my asshat brother lives in that state ! I was just checking out the today's weather and it says that currently the humidity is 96%. Wanna come to my house??

I'm in Orlando currently..we got here Saturday. We did one day at MKingdom Sunday and plan on going back tomorrow. We went to 'Ohana for dinner tonight and talked about going to a movie theater, but honestly, going to the movies had me freaked out. Enough to not go. I'm not sure why..I'm usually not that way. Please tell me that the adorable baby is there with you...and that we will see adorable baby Disney pictures.

Will this act of evil stop you from visiting Orlando? Disney? Going off Disney property? After 9/11, we Floridians got a big wake up call about how much we rely on tourism dollars when the planes were not flying and not bringing in our guests. We were all asked to try to go out, spend dollars, do the best we can. The boys have strong memories of going to Animal Kingdom two days later and being almost alone in the park. And I have memories of me and the other mother in the play area stopping and being almost scared when an actual plane flew overhead-a fighter jet zooming loudly in the sky over our heads. Soon thereafter the planes started flying again and the memories faded but with this...this horrible act of evil...will you still come? We lived in the path of the airplanes flying into Orlando at the time. Planes were about 500-1,000 feet above our house. When 9/11 happened, as you stated, it stopped. When flights resumed 2 days later, it was freaky. Some memories fade, but some remain very strong. I will never forget 9/11. Yes, we will still visit Orlando. We have family and friends in the area. We moved to the WPB area in 2003. What happened on can happen anywhere. I believe the government can do a heck of a better job with their restrictions of those on the watch list. Our government needs to stop spending money in ridiculous ways. link I am involved in my local government. I wish I could get involved on a higher level but illness prevents it. Still, 43 million spent gas stations which almost no one will use? How much more intelligence will that buy the Americans?

I think it's almost a requirement for me to go. I know at least one trip to Sanford area next month, and possibly Sept? Gotta check my calendar for that, and plan to see The Mouse in October.
If it weren't for work, I'd probably drive over now, to help out where I can with food and water for the volunteers.

Yep I'd still go to Orlando. There's really not anywhere I won't go because of terrorism. I'm more afraid of flying itself than I am of anything that might happen whilst vacationing.
ETA: Okay, I'd probably not vacation in Syria or Afghanistan...

It doesn't change anything for me. I didn't want to go to Orlando before and I still don't I know that sounds really flippant, but it's the truth. If Orlando were someplace I wanted to go, this wouldn't stop me. The next mass shooting could happen anywhere. I'm not going to hole myself up in my house and never go anywhere because I'm afraid of what could happen. I want laws to change, but I'm not going to cower in fear until they do.

Sadly, terrorism does effect my decision to travel oversees - I think Americans can be targets in foreign countries. However, even with the horrible shootings in Orlando, I generally feel safe in America.
There are radicals everywhere, sadly, but I can't and won't stop my life because of it. If I want to go to Orlando, this particular incident wouldn't stop me from going.

I'll be there with the kids the first week of August. I am praying for a cold front to hit while we are there. For the most part we will be at Anna Maria Island at my SIL's place. BUT oldest DS wants to treat us to Disney for a day. Hadn't even given it a thought to not go. Well, except for the heat. To add a bit of levity to discussion-I think a cold front in August will happen just shortly after hell freezes over. But the good news is that Anna Maria is one of the most beautiful beaches around and if all you do is sit on the porch under the shade and fans while watching the waves you will have gotten just about as close to heaven as one can get here on earth. I agree with all you stated! I may have a small out and we may not go to any parks. DS is wanting to hit up a game tournament in Seattle the day after we get back so he is having to make decisions. Fun with the family on his dime or fun for him with his best friend on his dime. So hell may not have to freeze for me to not endure the awful inner land FL heat. We absolutely LOVE AMI!! SIL lives in Tampa(where DH is from) so we have been going back home to a beach for the last 25 yrs we have lived back in my home state. We usually stayed in Indian Rocks Beach, Bellair Beach and Redington Beach areas, renting condos. Then SIL and BIL decided they wanted their own place and started looking. AMI it was. I have heard from some people how slow it is there and there is nothing to do. Duh, that is what beach living is!! We roll out and hit the beach early, back to the house(which is a block and a half from sand and water) lunch, back for sun. Dinner and then sunset. We do hit our favorite shopping strip mall and we have a couple of fave places to eat that we HAVE to have each time we are there. I know it is silly but my heart just sings when we are there.

anxiousmom Try explaining that type of humidity to somebody from Montana, and tell them that it is NOT raining. My husband just doesn't understand. Best way to do it? Old wool army blanket, soaked in water, draped all over you and then sit outside in the middle of a parking lot on black asphalt in the 93 degree heat with the sun shining down on you and no breeze. Kind of comes close. Fortunately, it's gone down since this morning.

He decided to wear his London fog long wool coat, because he had to go to a meeting as soon as he got off the plane in Ohio. He got to the bottom of the airplane steps and the flight attendants caught him as he fainted from the humidity. I laugh. He still believed he was just tired from the flight.

We were going there this summer but changes our plans earlier this month. It wouldn't stop us from visiting unless businesses began closing or having limited hours. I think it's safer to fly after a crash, or something like this when people are on alert. Just an urban legend, I'm sure.

9/11 didn't stop people from going to NY The marathon bombing didn't stop people from coming to Boston I am quite sure this evil event will not stop people from coming to Orlando. I only wish I could say I had a trip planned, because I'd be there in a heartbeat.

It does take a generation or two before you get used to it. (We joke and say that by now it has been bred out of us.)

I don't let stuff like that affect my travel. I just got back from Paris and I can say the planes to/from US were noticeably about half full. However, Euro Cup is going on, so there were still many tourists, mostly UK.
I have to say it was a bit disappointing to see the Eiffel Tower with fence blockades all around it so they can control the crowds and such. Just makes me sad. We live in free countries but can't really be free bcz of some aholes.
my whole thing is it happens everywhere, as we have seen: schools, nightclubs, workplaces, military bases, public places, not-so-public places, etc. You just have to live everyday to the fullest, and I refuse to let fear guide me.
It is just sad though.

He's not made it to Disney yet because he's battling a cold and he's super fussy and just not happy. So he's back at the condo with Grandma for now. We are hoping to jailbreak him on Friday when we go back to Disney for the day. We took him to the pool yesterday and after about 20 mins he was DONE.

Will you still come? Or will you hesitate? (This post brought to you by the news reports that Disney-or some part of it-was scouted as a possible target.) Going to Orlando in July. Our 6th year in a row. Not doing Disney though. Might do Wet n Wild since they are closing in December. We are also going on a 2 1/2 to 3 hour long alligator boat ride tour thing. We are going first tour of the morning and he said we will see lots of gators. Save

Orlando is not somewhere that I fear. I have plans to go elsewhere in the world in the fall and the spring. I am not a Harry Potter fan, I like Disney but we have been a few times and I think I am good. I would enjoy EPCOT, Hollywood Studios and the Animal Kingdom very much. Enough to come again? I don't think so.
China is where we are heading in the spring. I am hoping the fall we can take a trip to Greece and Italy. Might not happy but I would like to.
