I subscribed to starz JUST so I could see this show. Guess I'm stuck with it too because there isn't anything else I'm fond of on Starz. BUT I MUST SEE ALL OF THIS!!!!

Oh is it starting? I'm not reading the thread, I don't want any spoilers. The only reason why I'm gonna watch is because someone I follow on Pinterest (Jodi, is it you?) has a whole Outlander board and it was coming across my feed and I was thinking.."is this those books everyone was reading back in the 90's?". I vaguely remember them. So we get Starz anyway and I watched those little previews and now I'm curious to watch it! Thread is 3 pages long...I'm hopeful! I'll come back and read this thread after I watched. I didn't notice my DVR taping anything though..odd.

The first episode comes on this Saturday on Starz at 9:00 eastern time. However if you have Starz you can already watch it On Demand in SD (not HD) which is what everyone here is talking about.

Dh and I watched the first episode of Outlander yesterday. We spent the whole episode thinking, gosh the guy playing her husband sure looks familiar.... He is Edmure Tully from Game of Thrones! And knowing that kind of colors my opinion of him. I read an article in Entertainment Weekly magazine that had spoilers from the book series, and I was thinking, why does she pick the Scottish guy, when she has this very nice husband who will do *that thing he did* in the ruined castle. Then EW informs me that the books made a point of telling you that he never did *that thing*! Edmure Tully is such a wet blanket, I think I would go with the Scottish fellow as well!

That's right. I wouldn't have made the connection. Playing Black Jack Randall will definitely be a different role for him from that.

Then EW informs me that the books made a point of telling you that he never did *that thing*! Edmure Tully is such a wet blanket, I think I would go with the Scottish fellow as well! That scene was a complete surprise wasn't it!! In the book, they were trying to reconnect after so ing apart. THen the night before she time travels frank is asking her if she cheated on him while they were apart for the war. In the book that scene seemed really to point towards he said that it wouldn't matter because he HAD cheated, at least that was my impression. and it seemed that Claire had wondered that as well. That scene colored my entire opinion of frank and not for the better. Then in the TV series frank came across so much nicer than I had imagined him. I guess maybe it isn't really anything different than Diana wrote but i guess in my reading I had interpreted it that way. So I could see why she loved Frank and tried so hard to 'protect' him all thru her time with Jamie in france before Culloden.
The scene in the castle was not represented in the book like it was in the show, they had gone on a boat ride on the loch instead and the guy taking them in the boat told them the story of a castle that could be seen from the loch. But I thought that the way the show portrayed Frank I got a better picture of him. Why she loved him and why she ever agreed to return to him. To me it helped the story make more sense than how it had played out in my head from the books.

I am hooked.
I thought the cinematography was excellent. The post WW2 feel was nicely done.

So beautifully done! Although I found myself not caring at all about Clare and just kept waiting for Jamie to speak again in that lovely Scottish accent lol!

Just finished reading book one in anticipation of the movie. Glad to see episode one available online so I can see it. My computer was asking me to download Microsoft Silverlight, but with the OP's link I don't have to.
Now the big question is where can see the whole series online. We dropped cable 2 years ago but I don't want to buy it again for one series. Has anyone official said if it will be available via Amazon Prime, Hulu, or iTunes? Or online?
I would be willing to pay Starz directly for access, just don't need 400 channels of crap for 1 show.

I agree with both of your spoilers. Edited - I removed the spoilers because it showed up on my quote and it didn't want the spoilers showing in my post. But now I see the board only showed it while I was creating my post, but still made it click-able to view. I love this new board!

While I've already watched the first episode 3 times, I wanted to watch it last night again, but we were in a hotel on our way back to TX after a funeral. Hotel didn't have starz....boo!

Also, the street where Claire and Frank are staying looks exactly like I had pictured it in my mind. I loved the scene with Claire and the Scottish women.

I think I read that the first episode had more than a million view before it even aired on STARZ. I may have been responsible for a dent of that number ;-p. Of course, I had to watch again last night in HD and then since it was in again, one more time. It's just beautiful to watch. The director also said that he worked closely with Diana Gabaldon so I don't think there are going to be any unnecessary additions that she wouldn't approve. I watched the little clip on the STARZ website and loved how into the book he was. I trust he will take the series in the right direction.

It makes so much more sense to me now that my impression of Frank is different than i had in my mind. The actors have been excellent so far. It was beautifully done. Kept well to the story, made complete sense. (unlike some recent popular young adult books made into movies. ) I am so, so glad that it was picked up by stars as a series rather than attempting to make a nice tidy 2 hour movie out of it, it will be so much better this way. It will be hard to wait patiently between episodes but so worth the wait with the quality of how well it was cast, shot and edited. Excellent job (so far anyway).

I can't make it work. It asks for a television provider and I don't have one. I have internet through Comcast but I can't figure out how to see shows. ETA: I would have to resubscribe to cable to see it. Not doing that. Guess I will wait for the DVD's.

I've watched it so many times I've lost count (actually I'm just too embarrassed to tell…) My kids are just rolling their eyes at me at this point. Oh well, it's just payback for all the tween shows on the Disney channel I've had to sit through. (If they are in the room with me I skip over the naughty bits)
