I have a 4 1/2 mo old puppy in the midst of teething. She wants to chew everything all day, except when she's sleeping. lol! She has plenty of chew toys, and her foster mom gave me her puppy nylabones, and i give her a Kong filled with kibble that takes her about an hour to finish. Can you all give me some more ideas? Yes, I do walk her everyday to tire her out. What do your puppies or dogs like to chew all day? Also, what are some things to put in a Kong? Right now I'm putting moist treats mixed with kibble and freezing it. Usually takes an hour, gave her one today and she had it finished in 30 min  |

A kong you can fill it with all sort of things and it keeps them busy.. KongToys there's lots of things you can fill them with. They also make great durable puppy stuff. PICS please! lol! Have fun with her! |

NOT rawhides  We let ours chew on raw knuckle bones, bully sticks and deer antlers. |

I can tell you what not to give...rawhide...it can get into the digestive track and get stuck in there...operation and even death has happened...my friend lost a dog to the rawhide...
Bones, any kind...they splinter in the stomach as well
Greenies...even though they say they reformulated them I would not give these either...
Make certain you have shoes, other things around you do not want chewed on...when you are out, crate or use baby gates to keep pup in a safer area...puppy proof your area...watch on lamp cords,tv cords...etc...children's toys...
Nylon bone is one I would give but you still have to watch on that ...when it is well used throw it out for a new one.
Most of all...enjoy your new baby pup...

We didn't give the dog anything. She is part blue heeler with exceptional jaw strength and can break everything ing half.
We just controlled her chewing.

Bully sticks were a guaranteed 3 hours of peace. THREE HOURS oh my, I'm so jealous. We are down to 20 minutes now My boys can destroy LARGE bully sticks in a few minutes. I no longer give them because they are a choking hazard for the. But for those of you that don't like the smell, there are low/no odor ones. Bestbullysticks.com sells them. I buy all of our chewies from there. One of their favs and ones they keep for a while are the antlers. Those are probably too tough for the pup though. For the pup, take a dish towel, soak it in water, ring it out slightly, and freeze. We kept many in the freezer when our boys were pups. Felt really good to their gums. They LOVED them. Also, I fill our Kongs with pumpkin and freeze them. Another great treat. Hope this helps.  |

What about those woven cotton rope dog toys?
My dad only gave his dogs those dried pig ears as edible chew treats. They don't hurt the dog's stomach and intestines.
You could also put peanut butter in your dog's kong.
if your puppy is chewing because his teeth are coming in, giving him ice cubes and freezing his fabric toys can help with the pain

What about those woven cotton rope dog toys? I would be careful with those as chew toys. Someone told me they had a pup that chewed on that and ended up with a gut full of string debris from it. Operation ensued. I would agree with ellen on elk antlers. My Costco has been carrying them in 1 lb? packages for around $30.00 - about 4-5 good sized antlers per package. Compared to one antler at around $15 at some places, the Costco deal is a great deal. |

try an antler, they last quite a bit longer than other chew toys. they come in different sizes depending on the size of your pup.

Be careful with the Nylabones. My lab-mix loves them. But, we discovered the hard way that the chicken flavored ones splinter horribly. We ended up with a vet visit over one of those.
There's a toy that looks like a jack. It has been a good toy from puppy to adult.
You could also try looking for a tire type toy. However, this is going to depend on the chewing power/tenacity of your dog. This one sent our girl to the vet with a blockage. Thankfully, it was almost clean through. The vet retrieved it when he was examining her.
We had so many different toys that she chewed tiny bits off that we joked about her festive poo. Always had red, green, and bright blue flecks. LOL!
The only toy that has survived intact is the Kong. She has never liked the Kong.

Our lab loved antlers as a puppy. And I spent almost every night sewing her stuffed animals back together.
One thing that we did let her chew/destroy were boxes. It needs to be supervised, as swallowing a lot of paper can be bad for a dog. But ours loved to rip them up. We kept an eye on her when she was ripping up boxes and I only used the glued kind-like cereal boxes. No tape. You do need to watch paper then. Emma once got a box from an Uno deck and shredded it in seconds. Other than that, we were good.

We always thought our last Lab, Molly, was a power chewer, but Tucker quickly showed us what a REAL power chewer is. Even as a young puppy, he would destroy most toys the same day he got them. At 6 months old, he chewed the opening of his big black Kong that we had to stop giving it to him. At this point, the only bones he has are Nylabone Dura Chew bones or Galileo bones. (He had a small Galileo when he was a puppy, and now has the Souper sized one, which DH swore was going to crack the title in our old house.)
Even with these bones, he does a lot of damage to them in a relatively short period of time. Molly had a Galileo for years and never made a dent in it. Tucker has one end of the Souper one filed to a sharp point. The Dura Chews last him a few months, and then they're small enough that I worry he'll choke on them, so I replace them.
Thankfully (and amazingly), Tucker has never eaten or chewed on anything he shouldn't, with the exception of socks. If you leave a sock where he can get to it, he WILL get to it. But no shoes, furniture, or anything else. Thank goodness!

We have three dogs-two Bostons and a Lab/Shepherd mutt mix. Our two Bostons are crazy chewers. One is worse than the other, but even she has not yet fully destroyed a Kong extreme (the black one). They also love orbee tough balls from Planet Dog (especially the snowball). Those have been very durable-but expensive  And they've all loved zogoflex bones from WestPaw, although the super-extreme chewer has managed to rip small pieces off one end, so she rarely gets it now, and if she does it's only for about 10-20 minutes. The other Boston loves his, and will happily go at it for an hour or more at a time and he hasn't torn it up at all. I also second the caution on the rope bones. Darcy the crazy chewer can be eating wads of string within 20 minutes. With her, I honestly haven't found anything that we can just let her go at until she gets tired of it. But she's an extra-special kind of nutty and has some other issues besides the toy obsession and chewing. Love her so much, but she's a handful and then some. |

My dogs life these. They look like rawhide wraps, but the covering is made of vegetables.... They go through them quickly, but love them |

Mine love the water bottles too, but I have to leave the lids on that's the challenge! I've heard it's good for their teeth but I don't know if that's true or not! lol!
I put all sorts of stuff in the kong... they Love peanut butter - ice cubes, yogurt treats, you can give them apples but mine didn't like them.

I don't use a Kong much anymore, but, when I do I stuff it with liver treats and I used to top it off with half a cheese stick, but, I don't do the cheese anymore because my pup has a super sensitive stomach.

My dogs are pretty picky - they never really liked the kongs. They do like those hollow shin bones (one more than the other) and a chew bone from Hartz that I can only find at WalMart!
Also, any stuffed toys were ripped to shreds within minutes, but the unstuffed ones, they just LOVE!!

I don't use a Kong much anymore, but, when I do I stuff it with liver treats and I used to top it off with half a cheese stick, but, I don't do the cheese anymore because my pup has a super sensitive stomach. Erin I buy the split antlers too. My boys like them better. I get them from gotantler.com. It takes a bit to ship but well worth it especially when she has a sale. I have a large order coming from the last sale (everything 40% off). And my boys too LOVE peanut butter but it upsets their tummies so they don't get it anymore. Poor guys when I make a peanut butter sandwich. They stand next to me just pleading "please mommy." |

I have to aggressive chewers - mini schnauzers. One is 23 pounds and one is 14 pounds. We give them lots of deer antlers of all sizes. Smoked bones of any kind. When they get "old" I put them in beef broth and let them simmer all day to revive them. Yak chews. If they're outside we give them large frozen pieces of ice with treats inside. I freeze lots of little and big things for them: pumpkin cubes, watermelon slices, peanut butter and banana cubes, chunks of banana, strawberries, blueberries. They have a bag in the freezer that they know is theirs. So I can even put store bought treats in there to freeze and they think it's the best thing!
