I'm wondering if you have given up your landline phone and how it is going with only a cell phone. I know that younger people are usually more inclined to embrace new technology. I'm thinking of getting rid of my land line and want to hear from those who have. As a 60+ "young" person, I feel like I'm giving up a part of myself if I get rid of landline. I haven't checked with Verizon yet to see how much I would save. If it's not much, it probably doesn't pay. What are your thoughts on this?

I'm 57. I haven't had a land line since 2003. My only 'issue" is sometimes laying my phone down in the house and not remembering where it is since it is not tied to the wall but then I had the same trouble with those cordless phones when they didn't get returned to the charging cradle.

We would have given ours up but it's part of a bundle with cable and Internet and wouldn't save a dime. We never use it and it occasionally surprises us by ringing - from a telemarketer.

I haven't had one since 2009, my mom and dad are late 60s and they gave it up 2 or 3 years before I did!
Never missed it.

We gave ours up about 6 years ago...we bundle internet & Uverse with att. Also have our cell service with att. We didn't have cable of any kind before & it's cheaper for us to do it this way. I never get sales calls on my cell number.

No, we do not get good cell phone reception at our house. We can't even get TV reception without cable. And we are not the only ones because once in awhile the lack of cell phone reception pops up in our homeowners newsletter.

Looking at it from the angle of keeping it if it didn't save much money, I wouldn't add one if there were an offer of a landline for $1 a month. What would I do with it? If you bundle, the entire bill is cheaper with a landline. It is weird. We get free long distance with our landline and that phone is much better than cell phone.

Gave mine up 8 years ago and haven't regretted it for a minute, except now that I live alone, I hate it when I can't find it and can't ask someone else in the house to call it for me I'm 54. ETA, I just did a quick calculation, and amongst the maybe 15-20 people I'm closest with, only one still has a landline as well as a cell.

We got rid of ours and just use cell phones. We even got a cell phone for our dd because it was cheaper to add the cell phone with data to our plan then keep the landline. We just moved and the phone company is basically paying us to get a landline. I am amazed at how often it rings. We haven't given the number to anyone. I don't even know what it is. It is all telemarketers calling.

No, actually we still have two. Both DH and I work from home and need that stability for things like conference calls, etc that are separate from personal calls/texts/etc.

I'm 53 and dh is 60. We gave ours up literally two weeks ago. He loves it, but he hates talking on the phone. I'm not excited about it. We both have cell phones, but I hate that distant, delay when talking on a cell phone. We're saving $40 a month. We bundle directv and internet and they offered us a phone deal of $10 a month to keep it. I went ahead and cancelled, but I might hook it up again. The connection is just so much better for talking.

We're old and still have a land line. The only calls we get are from telemarketers and collection agents for the deadbeat autoparts dealer who had the number before we did. It's been six years and we still get calls. Ridiculous. We only have it because Frontier was going to charge us more for the Fios TV & Internet service if we didn't have a landline. So our whole bundle costs less WITH a phone. Plus we have free long distance. That's about the only time we use it for out going calls. More ridiculousness.

We live in a semi-rural area and are subject to power outages... not regularly, but more frequently than I would like. Cell reception is too iffy and unreliable so because of health issues, we've kept our landline - we need to be able to connect to the outside world when we lose power.

We gave ours up when we moved in 2012, but we're considering getting one again because we live in the middle of a pretty bad cell phone dead zone. We have a cell booster but it only helps marginally. It drives DH nuts to be in the middle of a business call with a client and the stupid cell signal drops the call. It's annoying.

We have a home office so we still have one. I actually hate talking on cell phones so even when we retire, we'll keep it.

Yes. We haven't had one for a few years. No one important ever called it. It was only spam calls. At first, I just turned the ringer off, but we didn't see the point in that, if we were never going to use it, so we just got rid of it all together.

We still have a land line. Was seriously considering giving it up when sefvice for cell went bad. Neighbors report they are having similar problems. We will attempt to make a call and it might take 5-6 tries before we get the call to go through. Don't want to be in that situation trying to call 911.

We both have cell phones but still have a landline. I won't give it up as it doesn't cost much and I've had that phone number for 40+ years. I do realize that I could transfer the number to my cell but I don't want to. I also hate talking on cell phones. Don't like the way they feel. The only thing I use my cell phone for is to call home when I'm out, to ask my hubs if he wants me to bring him a hamburger. I'll have my land line until I die or they stop supporting land lines. I'll also always have a cell phone.

quick access for 911 to know my street address is a compelling reason for my family.

We have one like many others I keep it because I have a bundle with Verizon and it is cheaper. As of right now it is not even plugged in, I don't even remember the number (we just moved and joined Verizon).
I will have to hook it up soon though, as we are applying to be Foster Parents and one of the requirements is to have a landline phone with safety numbers posted next to it.

We have opted to keep our landline and will as long as we live in an area that is prone to hurricanes. I rode out Hurricane Ike and lost power 5 hours before the storm ever hit land. Having the landline kept me connected. While we do have cordless phones, the kitchen phone is a retro corded wall phone. That one will work when we lose power.
There are also times that the reception isn't the best in the house. As annoying as the telemarketers are, we aren't giving it up.

We got rid of ours almost 20 years ago & have only cell phones. Much cheaper & I get my own messages that my family would "forget" to give me!

We are between two cell towers and cell reception is poor for the entire block of homes. So we keep our landline. Mostly so telemarketers can ring us. Lol.

No, we have crappy cell coverage, and I don't think I've ever had a cell call even in an area with good coverage that sounds anywhere near as good as a landline. Maybe I'll reconsider if and when the technology improves.
