No. I much prefer to talk on that rather than my cell phone when I'm at home.

My husband doesn't want to. I'd be okay with it if we had an extra cell phone we could leave at home.

I was very reluctant to get rid of my land line but DSO wanted to so we could save some money - it was costing us $30 per month just for the line rental. I rang my telco to get a new cable internet and pay TV deal and asked them to cancel my land line. With the deal they had it was actually cheaper to keep my land line in a bundle with my internet and pay TV - how does that work? So I kept it.
The other night the land line rang.... I said to DD "Who is ringing the land line?" Usually it would be my dad but as he is overseas I knew it couldn't be him. Turns out it was my dad's best mate so yeah, another old person!

After the 10th telemarketing call before noon today (no joke!), I disconnected the landline from the wall in frustration. Need to cancel!!! I keep on telling my mom (who I live with at the moment) that in some sort of disaster where the cell phone towers are down I doubt the landline is going to be much more in working order...so what's the point? We never use it otherwise.

We never use it otherwise. As long as your landline phone does not need electricity (such as a non-cordless version) it will work when the cell phone won't. When we had a major power outage a few years ago, our landline still worked.

I still have one and would like to give it up but I have a few friends from church/old family friends who like to call the landline because it's free vs paying to call a mobile.
My landline is now a VOIP service since I switched to fibre broadband so it's no use in a power cut. So I expect to phase it out in a few years.

We lost our when we switched cable providers in March. It was a screw up by Cox Cable. That prompted is to also drop cable tv. We have Ooma VOIP now, plus my cell phone. ETA: I'm 51, DH is 58.

We gave ours up when we moved last year. I'm 54 and dh is 69 and we do fine with just cell phones. We had thought about giving it up before but it didn't make any sense financially but when we moved we were eligible for a new "bundle" and dumping the phone saved us about $40 a month.

We gave up our landline several years ago and certainly don't miss it. Fortunately we have have excellent cell service at home. The $$ savings are really not significant in our case, but not having to deal with sales calls is more than worth it.

Interesting replies, because every single one of my friends who I call regularly still has a landline. And they all have the same phone number that I've been calling for all the years we've known each other. These are friends who I met here in my neighborhood when my ds started elementary school. I guess we just all old-fashioned? lol I prefer it for talking because I feel like the sound quality is better. The cell phone has that odd "hollow" sound to it. Could just be my old ears though.

I still have a landline, and am in no hurry to give it up. I use the number when I register for store loyalty cards or when I place an online order and they request a phone number. I don't know if it really helps to keep down the telemarketing calls on my cell but I like to think so.

We don't have a landline, and neither do most people I know. I believe we do have capacity for a landline - it came bundled with our internet - but we don't have a phone connected and we don't miss it. Then again, I rarely make phone calls anymore. Mostly I text or use a messenger app, or I use skype if I want a voice option.

We gave ours up about 5 years ago and don't miss it at all. You mention a "60" someone, it was my husband who is older than that and he was the one who brought up the idea of getting rid of it. The only time we've missed it was a couple of times when we needed to send a fax.

We have our landline phone as we get a better deal for internet and cable by including the ( which very weird). Our landline supports our house alarm but the best thing about it is, its the phone number I use for when I internet shop. So all the sales calls go to that phone so we never answer it we let everything go to answering machine. Our family and friends call our cell phones...

We get ours with the internet bundle we subscribe to. Our area is getting Google Fiber which will also have the phone bundled in.
I don't get the best reception on my cell phone in our house and have problems with the speaker not being loud enough.
We also live in an area that gets hurricanes and the power outages that comes with them. A landline still works even when the power lines and cell towers go down. We keep an old corded phone that still works because our cordless phones require power for the base unit to work.
I also have some serious health concerns and have needed to call 911 when I was alone. My dh worries about me not being able to get to my cell phone or the police and EMTS not being able to tell where I am. Our home phone has 4 units which all have charger bases so I have two phones downstairs and two upstairs, so a phone is always nearby.
Two years ago I fell down the stairs and cracked a vertebrae while dh wasn't home. I always carry a phone around when I'm by myself because we have so many units, and I was able to call 911. If I'd only had my cell phone, I wouldn't have been able to get to it. (I keep it on it's charger by my bed--it's also my alarm)

Still have a landline for the same reasons everyone else has already said. I'd be more inclined to give up my cell phone since the reception is so bad around here. We just got back from vacation and for most of the trip we had no cell or very spotty cell reception. Very fustrating since I needed to keep in touch with my dad.

We still have a landline; we have multiple phones around the house, plus one corded phone that would work in a power outage. If I'm having a long phone conversation (like with my mom), I'd rather do it on one of the cordless phones than my cell phone.
We also have a call screening device on our home phone, so we don't get sales calls.

I haven't.
I like having a phone that I know can't get lost, doesn't need to charge, can't accidentally drop in the toilet.
Plus, internet, cable, and phone are all bundled together, and it would cost more for us if we dropped the landline than to keep it. Weird, I know.

I had one for faxing and recently decided to get rid of it.
The one thing I miss is telephone extensions on every floor. My house is 3 floors and if my cellphone rings while I'm upstairs, I have to run downstairs to get it. And usually I miss the call. It's not a big deal at all - but it is something.

I haven't. It's bundled so there's that, and I like the redundancy of having a land line and a cell phone - with kids in school and my parents aging and not getting around so well anymore, I like the extra ways to be reachable when it's necessary.

We still have our landline, but only because we have to for our internet. It never gets used by us though. Almost all of my family use their cell phones exclusively.

Yes we have one. It's through Verizon now and $20. a month and as long as the main phone is hung up we can receive calls when the power is out. My mom calls me on the home phone and doctors offices. Verizon is the only cell phone that works where we live.

I gave up the land line in about 2002. Whenever I've tried turning it back on, because of a bundle deal or whatever, I get overwhelmed by the number of telemarketing calls and ended up just unplugging the phone anyway so what's the point.
All four of us have had our own cell phones since my youngest was about seven (he used to get our old phones when we upgraded, I sort of miss those cheaper non-smart-phone days!).

Nope, got rid of ours years ago. The only people who called it where those who could not reach us on our cell phone...and it became just a hassle.

No, we love our landline. When we call and talk to grandparents and we all want to be on the line, it's easier for us with the landline. And I don't hear well, and do so much better on landline. I cannot talk to people well on my cell phone, it seems that both parties always "talk" at the same time. Hard to explain. Much better reception for me on the landline. And I can never find my cell phone, but can always find my house phone! Love the landline!

We live in a semi-rural area and are subject to power outages... not regularly, but more frequently than I would like. Cell reception is too iffy and unreliable so because of health issues, we've kept our landline - we need to be able to connect to the outside world when we lose power. We keep ours for 911 because of DH's major health issues. If he has to call when he's home alone, I want the 911 operator to know where he is, if he can't tell her.
