..... and I found 6 big tins of salmon. SIX! I must forget that I have some so I go and buy more then never use them. Guess I'll be googling to find some recipes with salmon. I can't even remember why I bought them. And 4 cans of water chestnuts.
I also have a large collection of oils, soy sauces and vinegars.
OIL: vegetable, sesame, peanut, olive oil x 3, lemon infused olive oil, chili infused olive oil, onion infused olive oil, basil infused olive oil (those 4 were in a gift pack), walnut, macadamia, rice bran, canola spray, olive oil spray SOY SAUCE: light, dark, kecap manis, premium (which is just dark), light premium - about 7 bottles of various soy sauces VINEGAR: white, brown, malt, white wine, red wine, balsamic, apple cider
Not to mention a shit-ton of other sauces and condiments. But at least I use them all. Except the salmon apparently. Oh, and there are 9 bottles of tomato and BBQ sauce, all of which have been opened!
What do you have a lot of in your pantry?

I want a pantry What is a pantry in your neck of the woods? It's just a food cupboard here. Some of my friends with bigger newer houses have a butlers pantry which is a massive walk in pantry with a sink and heaps of cupboards. My dream! But until then, this is my little pantry:

Yes, same as you although they can also be actual rooms. I don't have a cupboard like that, just normal kitchen units. The floor to ceiling storage would be lovely

Some of my friends with bigger newer houses have a butlers pantry which is a massive walk in pantry with a sink and heaps of cupboards. My dream! But until then, this is my little pantry: That's not "little" to me! If I had that I'd be in heaven. My "pantry" is two-part -- one, several of my kitchen cupboards. In there I keep things we'll use regularly, like tuna, some soup, canned peaches (try to buy a good fresh peach around here...ugh, forget it!), etc. Then part two is down in the laundry room in the old kitchen cupboards that the previous owner hung there. Down there I keep things like canned tomatoes, spaghetti sauce, maple syrup or sauces (things I already have one opened up in the refrigerator), pasta, etc. I just looked in my kitchen pantry cupboard and the only odd thing there is two cans of crushed pineapple. lol. Personally I hate pineapple unless it's in a pina colada or on a Hawaiian pizza so I'm not sure how it got there. I suspect it was ds the last time he was home and he forgot to take it with him back to Georgia. Since he'll be home in a week I 'll just leave it there. lol

Have you checked to make sure that your oils haven't gone rancid? There's nothing worse than getting a mouthful of rancid oil by accident (well, maybe getting a mouthful of sand).
I'm not a fan of salmon. My family lived on a small barrier island when I was a kid, and our grocery stores only sold tinned salmon. --They didn't sell a lot of seafood, either because everyone bought fresh seafood from all the local fish markets. I'd never seen fresh salmon until I was an adult. (who wants salmon when all the markets and restaurants sold fish that had been swimming in the ocean that afternoon?)
My mom did make salmon cakes from tinned salmon once in a blue moon because my dad liked them. She just mixed the fish with crackers and egg and pan fried them. We ate them with molasses and biscuits. They weren't bad, but I didn't like the little bones although my mom said they were good for me... I've never liked "fishy" tasting fish, and salmon is the most fishy to me.
I have a little pantry like that, too. I also have a two door kitchen cabinet over my range/microwave that is easy for my 6'4" dh to reach. That's where we keep all our vinegars, oils (except the two containers of olive oil we use the most--a normal olive oil and then a lighter more neutral oil for high heat sauteing) and sauces like sriracha, soy, and worcestershire When we've moved, about 99% of our foodstuff is condiments. They turn the most basic foods into something wonderful.
My dh loves salads with oil and vinegar, so we have all sorts of vinegars. The TJ Maxx and Marshalls stores have an aisle of gourmet vinegars, oils, spices, coffees, teas, etc. and then their Homegoods stores have a larger section. That's where we get most of our balsamic, wine and champagne vinegars, gourmet vanilla extract, and spices because they buy overstocks and remainders from a lot of stores and then sell the goods for 50%-90% off. Williams-Sonoma and Sur La Table sells Nielsen-Massey extracts for $12.95-$24.95 and I always see it at TJ Maxx, etc. for $6-$9 if it's not on clearance.
Dh loves the Fini and O brand balsamic vinegars, which we see at these stores all the time. Vinegars don't go bad, so I don't mind have a huge variety.
I do tend to get my olive oil at Trader Joe's when I can because they do go rancid. I don't keep as much oil as I used to because we don't cook as much with them since I can't eat a lot of vegetables anymore and can't eat salad at all.

this is my little pantry: That's so cute and well organized. We don't have a pantry per se. We use two of the kitchen cabinets, plus a bookshelf on the enclosed back porch wall. I must buy jelly/jam/preserves the way you buy salmon. I have easily, eight of them, if I include the two opened in the fridge.

I am jealous of your pantry! We're going to an open house today and I'm really hoping this place, which seems perfect for us, has a pantry!
ETA: make salmon pie...yum!

When I first came over to look after my parents I cleaned out their pantry. It's pretty much like yours Meg but it was stuffed to the brim with toilet rolls, kitchen towels, bottles of bleach, disinfectant, moist toilet wipes, tins of milk pudding (mostly years out of date), tinned fruit (again out of date), tea bags, biscuits. I had so much stuff that was only fit for throwing out it was ridiculous.
Maybe you could make some of those delicious jelly (jello) salads with your salmon?

I had no idea salmon came in cans. Do you use it like you would tuna in packets?
We have tons of different varieties of flour.

Cans of beans - kidney, black, pinto, garbonzo, etc. etc. Right now I probably have close to 25 cans of beans.

Dh is the house cook. Our pantry ends up stuffed with oils, vinegars, and Asian sauces.
I have one shelf for tea, which is my weakness. He tends to put canned beans or capers on there, which makes me a little green.

Dry beans and pasta. I have every type of dried bean known to man. I used to have them all displayed in glass jars. I love looking at all the colors and textures. Now they are in the pantry along with every type of pasta imaginable. I like all those shapes to look at too. I just got tired of dusting the jars so put them away. If I have pasta and beans I can make anything. I use a lot of rice beans and pasta as easy bases for meals. My husband buys bags and bags of sugar and stores it over the washing machine on a shelf. We probably have eight bags of sugar I always ask him if he thinks there is a shortage. For some reason it makes him happy to know he is not going to run out of sugar.

AussieMeg , I think this is going to sound rude but I am genuinely curious- what is that thing that looks like a toilet in your pantry? And to answer your question, in my pantry I have lot of canned tomatoes, and grain-type things - bulgur wheat, quinoa, probably six different kings of rice, barley, couscous etc.

I just threw out an unopened relish jar that expired March 2014 and two open containers of the same BBQ sauce in the fridge, both expired last year.
Our kitchen pantry is a big black hole. It is in a corner, so it holds a ton, but it all gets lost at the back. Most things I need/use are stored in baskets so I keep them pretty organized, but the kids have multiple bags of crackers open and it makes me crazy. If they don't see what they are looking for at the front of the cupboard, they go open a new bag/box.
I emptied their whole shelf last week and discovered the saddest thing of all: an unopened tub of Costco peppermint bark. The sell by date is Feb 5/16 and it looks fine, but no one is in the mood for peppermint bark at this time of year.

I have tons of chicken broth, pasta and canned tomatoes in my pantry. I just cleaned out our pantry about a month ago and had to toss a bunch of outdated food/snacks. I'm now trying to get my family in the habit of writing the expiration date on the box/label before putting it on the shelf and to put the newer items behind the older items.

I just reorganized my pantry the other day and I have beans, beans, and more beans. Dried, canned, you name it. Beans for years. My pantry is about the same size as yours. I had a huge walk through pantry at my last house with an extra refrigerator in it, but we have so many stores close by to this house, I don't keep as much on hand and we don't have severe winter weather around here so there's no need to stock up for days when you can't get out. More and more I'm using my pantry to store things like larger kitchen appliances and cooking pans, etc.

I thought maybe you called the fridge a pantry. Some of those things you listed we keep in the fridge once opened.
