Good morning ladies!!! I hope you all have been doing well! I've been reading sporadically over the last week but hope to be more of a participant this week! The only commitment I have this week is my ds has a dentist appt on Wed. Today it's supposed to be really hot again (above 90 which for here is REALLY hot) so I'm thinking that I'm not going to do anything. LOL Take one complete day to do a whole lot of nothing. Tomorrow though - I need to get some work done around the house that I've been neglected - scrubbing tubs will be the first thing on the list. I'm getting ready in a few to do week 6 day 1 of the C25K program. OH! My dh signed me up for my first 5K in August. We're going with a group of friends that he works with so it'll be a walking one. If you would've told me 10 years ago that I'd willingly do a 5K, I'd have called you a liar. LOL I hope you all had a wonderful weekend!! And Happy Summer!!!

Oh my goodness, a 5K brandy327? How exciting, and yes, you can do it easily I am sure!!! And these 90+ temps are killing me too. That's why I left TX. They weren't supposed to follow me. LOL! DD has strep. She has been really sick since Friday. No cardiac rehab for her until she is better. We LOVED having DD#2 home but sad she is back at school/work now. I lost 2.8 lbs. this week for a total loss of 28.6 lbs. I hope to be at a 30 lb loss by the end of June. Gotta keep truckin'. And TankTop, thanks for thinking of us with DD home. Sure wish her sister wasn't sick though because she didn't get to go and see Finding Dory with us. Those family moments are far and few between now as they are older and to have one sick when we were all together was sad. Oh well, it is what it is. Moving on to a new week today! Have a great day girls!

Brandy, that is exciting! Enjoy the rest day.
I did really well on my eating last week and was down about 1.5 lbs until this morning. Last night we had papa murphys. I had the delite pizza but it must have tons of sodium. I am up 4 lbs today. Story of my life.
I'm getting ready to do BBM day 36. I have missed a workout here and there but this is the longest I have stuck with a program and I am happy about that! I also got some new running shoes and am planning to spend some time on the treadmill and/or elliptical this week in addition to BBM. I also found a DVD that I bought years ago after reading reviews on how it was supposed to help with diastasis recti. I did the first core workout on Saturday. It seemed really simple but I was sore yesterday so hopefully it will help!

Last day of school!!!!
Lots of treats around but I'm not going anywhere near them. I had a rough day yesterday so I need to keep it together until my weigh in on Thursday. Hopefully I didn't mess it up so badly that I won't see a loss.
There's an end of year party after the students go home. I'm going to keep my choices light-i even brought a lunch to eat ahead of time so I won't be tempted to eat a lot while there.
Have a great day everyone!

Great job Brandy!!
I'm doing pretty well. I pulled my hip flexor this weekend.....getting up from the couch ROFL. Seriously, I did a 1/2 marathon 2 weeks ago and I'm fine but I get up off the couch and pull my muscle. Lots of stretching and epsom salts baths.
I'm excited to be back on track and exercising. I have a goal to reach before my birthday in July.
Have a great week ladies.

Just want to make sure y'all didn't miss my update from yesterday. Sorry it has taken me so long to get back with my Body Analysis Test! It wasn't as bad as I thought, but a little weird. I went in wanting positive news. Tired of going to the Dr. and hearing that what I'm doing is just not good enough. I got positive news! For myself, I set the goal of 135 lbs. She said, with exercise (I'm doing 8-9 hrs a week!) and a caloric diet of around 1800 calories, her goal for me is 141 lbs!!!! That is TOTALLY doable for me, and I am really excited about that. Starting tomorrow, I have decided to ONLY count calories for the next 2 weeks, and see if I can break this plateau I have been on for what seems like forever. She gave me a range to shoot for, so 17-1900 calories a day is my goal. Here is what the test results look like: I will totally be doing this again in 12 weeks, so I can see how I have been doing before our anniversary trip! Here we go!

Back on the scale after having my husband home for ten days-- exactly the same. A total miracle as far as I'm concerned since I got one really decent workout in that time frame. We mostly ate at home or had picnics so that worked in my favor.
Today is my Day One for the Whole30. Rules dictate that breakfast be eaten within one hour of waking and before coffee. I did that this morning but it is not my favorite. But they are very big on rules so I am going to follow them instead of complaining.
Breakfast was absolutely delicious though-- 1/2 cup roasted turnips and sweet potatoes, homemade sausage (just ground pork with spices), spinach and two eggs. Tonight I am making turkey jalepeno mango meatballs- I hope they taste as good as they looked on Pinterest!
Back to workouts today but as the weather is so hot, I'm on my way out the door now. I have a bunch of household chores and phone calls to make but my walk and workout are super high priorities after my week off.
Happy first day of summer!!!!

(I know I could read your history...) I'm fizzling out on my walking. I think I only walked 4 times last week, and it's down to 45 minutes rather than the hour I had been doing. Still doing it outdoors, and the heat is kicking my ass. I tried the treadmill a couple of times, and it's just not the same. I'm watching the timer, and quitting at 10-15 minutes. Boo! Stalled out at 176 for over a week now. I am staying within the 1300 calories for the most part. *sigh*

sharlag - perhaps you need some music or a book on tape/podcast to listen to while you walk? I usually like nothing but when I'm lacking in motivation, I have a few podcasts that entertain me. My current favorite is called The Popcast. It is a weekly show about pop culture. But I agree with you about the treadmill- I almost actually hate it but enjoy walking outside. Maybe you need a change of location? A park or new walking path?

I'm getting ready in a few to do week 6 day 1 of the C25K program. OH! My dh signed me up for my first 5K in August. We're going with a group of friends that he works with so it'll be a walking one. If you would've told me 10 years ago that I'd willingly do a 5K, I'd have called you a liar. LOL That's awesome! This is just the beginning... I had a busy weekend. Friday night I make treats for our training group's "graduation party" that was on Saturday night. I did not take the healthy route with these treats :-O Saturday, we had to get up at 4:00 am to go out of town for a four-mile race. The morning was perfect for a run. I ran with a group of friends. We pretty much ran together for the entire race. The course was pretty flat with a nice downhill right at the end. I kept a pretty steady pace for the first three miles and then sped up quite a bit for the last mile. It was a fun race. There was a big party afterwards with music and free beer (at 8:00am!) We stayed for a while and then stopped off for breakfast (again, didn't make the best food choice. It's a pattern for the weekend.) The graduation party was fun. We made plans with friends to meet at 6:00 am the next morning for a run then a bike ride. I opted to not run (DH went) and instead headed out on the trail at about 6:30 with our border collie for a walk. I caught up with the group as they were on their way back. We went back to the house to get ready for the bike ride. I wasn't sure how far I'd ride with the group, but I ended up sticking with them for the entire ride - which was 25 miles. It started to get hot, so we headed back (otherwise some of my friends would have stayed out longer.) I was so close to 25 miles when we reached my house, that I had to ride a little extra past my street to get up to 25. It was my first 25 mile ride. I'm up a couple of pounds from the weekend, but I'm back to sensible choices today and the rest of this week. DH and I are going to a flat tire clinic at our local bike shop tonight, so it looks like it will be a rest day from exercise. Our training groups are on break now so I'm on my own as far as running for the next couple weeks. Have a great day!

Thanks, mrsp ! I was listing to a book on Kindle on the treadmill. I think I'd do better with music though, like when I walk outdoors. And I might try covering up the timer display so I don't watch it so closely.

OMG everyone! I somehow managed to get myself registered for yoga basics and yoga for weight loss this summer. Please note I've never really done it... Like ever! ? Um .... So this will be interesting. I'm starting tomorrow! Ack! So, my summer exercise schedule will look like this: M-W-F boot camp (body weight stuff), Tu/Th am-yoga/yoga for weight loss, Tuesday evening-step circuit. If I'm not a lean, mean, teaching machine by August, I'm not sure I'll ever be! Wish me luck that I don't look like a complete fool doing all this! ?

I read while I walk/run on the treadmill...which i know not everyone can do but the podcast/music idea is a great idea!! My basement is air conditioned so that's the only motivation I need for using the treadmill vs going outside! LOL

I read these threads a lot, but rarely post. But I am posting today to make myself be accountable. I ate and drank too much on vacation last week and need to make amends this week. Lol. I'll probably do that 5:2 fast (two days of no more than 500 calories) and make really good choices for the regular days. I did get in one run and several long walks and bike rides on the beach last week, but no body work so I need to get back on track with that, too. It WAS worth it though!

Week 6, Day 1 of the C25K program done! It was easy today!! But I noticed that I run at a slow ass pace. Like in the entire 31 mins of walking/running, I didn't even go 2 miles. I have a couple of more weeks of the program left until I finish...but then I want to work on speed. Any suggestions on how to increase speed?

missfrenchjessica, you will love yoga. I began (with no prior experenice) in October and with the help of a fantastic teacher, I'm already quite comfortable and getting better by the week. The greatest benefits for me are better balance, flexibility and a quieter mind. At age 52, I doubt I'll ever become a master, but I enjoy it so much and I feel so great after a 90 min workout. I attempted a walk this morning, but my body said no. I'm just 11 days out from surgery and while I'm mentally ready to be active, I must listen to my body. With careful eating, I'm at least maintaining my current weight. My overall goal is to be 135 by mid August and that's only 5 pounds, so very attainable. I had eggs and vegggies this morning and will have friut and some protein for lunch.

I have a couple of more weeks of the program left until I finish...but then I want to work on speed. Any suggestions on how to increase speed? Do not worry about speed! It comes with time. How to build speed? Keep increasing distance gradually, just as you are now. (I keep a training journal and can see the improvements over the course of time; I record a description of my workout, how I felt (including any pains I may have experienced) and my distance/time/pace.) It won't happen overnight, but your performance will improve gradually. For example, if you were to go back and do W1D1 today, I'm sure you'd be able to run it faster.
It took me several months after finishing my beginning 5K training (which was structured similar to the C25K program) before I could run an entire 5K without stopping.

Thanks for the info!! I love the idea of a running journal! I'll find one next time I'm out shopping. I know TJ Maxx & Marshalls has cheap journals. I'm excited that I've gotten this far with the C25K! I've never made it this far and definitely made it this far without lots of pain. I'm only 2 weeks away from finishing!!! Maybe I'll do the entire program again and just boost my speed a bit and see how it goes.

Last week I retained a LOT of water. I hate those water weeks! Anyway, I am doing WW but I also have a fun day each week where I eat anything I want for dinner/desert (Olive Garden with Black Tie Mousse cake for instance). I also eat my normal meals I have always eaten which keeps carbs and sugars low. I am a carbaholic, and I get terrible inflammation when I eat a lot of carbs/sugar. So, while I watch my points daily for WW, I also cheat once a week. My average weight loss is 1.43 lbs. a week. Oh, and edited to say I walk an average of 12,000 steps a day too. I LOVE walking in the early, early morning with one of the dogs listening to nature. It is also my prayer time. One of my favorite times of day.

Maybe I'll do the entire program again and just boost my speed a bit and see how it goes. That is a good plan. I did the 5K training program twice and I did notice a significant improvement the second time around. When you feel ready to move on from that, there's a Bridge to 10K training program which helps with increasing distance after completing C25K.

brandy327, a 5K, that is awesome!!! Good luck! I'm fizzling out on my walking. Boo! I have noticed the same thing, with the timer right there, I watch it like a hawk. I prefer walking outside, but the heat is killing me, too!! This weekend was rough, I took my 16 year old to an audition for The Voice at the Javitz Center here in the city... 2 hours total of standing on line, and I did fall at one point, so once I was home my knee went up and I was down for the count for the rest of the day. Yesterday was better, but my eating was crap. So I have already walked .5 miles to work, and will do another .5 miles during lunch, and will try .5 miles or more after work. Also signed up on Sparkpeople.com, if anyone is on there, I am NYC_MOM.

Hey ladies! You guys are kicking butt! brandy327 you will rock that 5K! I know that in the summer my speed slows wayyyyy down, but I'm also running in 100% humidity. Congrats on making it to week 6! Your dedication has been amazing. sharlag, think about bumping up those calories and adding in a little more protein or healthy carbs (Think sweet potatoes vs bagels. Not nearly as fun but effective). Have you thought about watching a tv series on Netflix? The hour long shows usually pan out to about 40 minutes on Netflix. I call the treadmill the "dreadmill", it is definitely not my favorite either. missfrenchjessica Happy LAST DAY! You'll do great with yoga. Adjust as you need to for your abilities and you'll do great. A friend of mine does hot yoga once a week, I want to try to join her one of these weeks over the summer. KikiPea, I'm so glad you got some positive feedback and direction on where to go next. I'm a total direction-follower (sometimes, lol), so it's nice to know which way to go! DD is finally home after two weeks with her dad. I'll refrain from commenting too much on his parenting skills, but let's just say she's happy to be home, sleeping in her own bed and clean. She has art camp during the day this week. I'm a little jealous because I've missed her like crazy but it's one of her favorite things to do over the summer so I'll deal. Over the weekend I shot photos at a memorial workout at a local box for the One Orlando fund. Amazing turnout and the organizers did a fantastic job. I got some great shots I'll be working on editing this week. I also rearranged DD's room (she left me a map, lol) and we'll be working on putting everything back in this week (read: I'll be convincing her to purge some things!). Exercise-wise I lifted allllll the weights yesterday (squats and upper body-everything) and went for a run this morning--there was a nice breeze off the lake so temperature-wise it was actually quite pleasant! Did some yoga after I got home. Food has been ok, although I noticed I crave more salty things the hotter it gets (probably because I sweat so much when I work out). Pretzel chips are my downfall right now! Doing some meal prep this afternoon too, because I'm also not as hungry over the summer, and just snacking all the time vs. full, actual meals isn't going to help me in the long run. Going to enjoy my first full week of summer as much as I can! Have a great Monday!
