Well, perhaps a vague title, but I wasn't sure how to word it.
The other day I was making a layout that had a reference to Spiderman. I had a small sticker but I wanted something more. Well, low and behold, I have a MS spiderweb border punch. I never thought I'd use that for anything other than Halloween layouts.
So:
spiderweb border punch = embellishment for Spiderman layout.
Do you use any of your shapes/tools/etc in a way that isn't immediately obvious as the intended purpose? I'd love to get some extra use out of my tools.

Since the only thing I could think of when going to respond to this was how I used a spider web on my dgs's bd page when he had a Spiderman themed party, I don't think I am in a place today to "think outside the box" LOL.
But I do often use punches and tools to suit my theme. I love options when creating, so I will often think of all the different ways I could create a scene or a mood, and sometimes that means using something for a purpose outside its original one. The only things I can think of right now is using my spikey circle dies for items like the sun, border for action words like "bang!", or using my cloud dies as bunches of leaves on a tree...
Will come back to this when my right brain is functioning... Might even use it as a challenge...

On another thread I mentioned I cut up stickers to meet my needs. My friend says my claim to fame is I am always piecing papers together for a theme. That is why I go through so much adhesive. I don't have an example but I tend to use my paper/sticker products in ways that suit me and not necessarily their original use.
I use for example, Halloween paper for my son's role play activities. I have used all kinds of Halloween paper like skulls, graveyards, ravens... I used a really cool 3D sticker that said 'eat, drink and be scary' on a page about warriors at a feast. Halloween has cool stuff to use other ways!

using my cloud dies as bunches of leaves on a tree... Brilliant! I, too, have a Spiderman layout using my Halloween supplies.

I have used my heart punch to make strawberries and shamrocks. Oooh. Great ideas. And a couple of punched hearts make a great base for a Santa Claus or a gnome. Haven't done this for years, but might give it a try today to see if it still works for me. Hmmm.... Nuvo dots for eyes and nose...

I use my hexagon punch to make tags.
Cut a strip of paper very slightly narrower than the width of your punch. Slip the paper halfway into the punch. pull the end that's in the punch up and through the punch, pulling it to the length you want your tag to be. Punch. And there you have a tag with a three sided top.
You can do this with other punches to get different shaped tops. The hexagon is just easiest to explain.

I have used a small diamond punch to make a border on a page. Cut out a ton of diamonds and arrange them in several different rows along the edge of the page. Turned out really pretty.
