One of my friends told me that last week she brought her 7 year old to sandlot baseball and another mom was wearing stiletto heels. Last night we were at another baseball event for kids that age and there was a mom wearing stilettos. It very well could be the same person, but I'm wondering if this is a "thing". I know the mom (casually) who was wearing them last night and have never seen her wear anything like that before. She had on short shorts along with the stilettos, so I don't think it was that she was coming straight from work. Seemed totally inappropriate for the occasion. Have you seen this where you live?

Just last night! We were watching to see if she would fall--it was apparent that she was new at the 6" heels and walking!

I don't know if it's a thing, maybe they just like wearing stilettos? How were they inappropriate?

Inappropriate clothing seems to be getting to be the norm, though, doesn't it? People wear their pajamas to the grocery store. Women wear stilettos with super short shorts. Bikinis are becoming microscopic. I don't even wear shorts much less short shorts, and my swimming apparel of choice has been a sedate swim dress for decades.
I think it's a thing.
And I think it's a hilarious thing, because so many women fall off those ridiculous shoes and break their ankles. Darwinism!

Only once. At a track meet, it wasn't a mom though it was a college senior who was helping coach the middle school high jumpers (she also is/was a high jumper) I think she ended up taking them off when she walked across the field. I'm always careful about my shoe choices at sports because it's tricky enough to get up and down those bleachers without adding difficult shoes to the mix.

Why is it inappropriate to wear high heels to take your kid somewhere? I would consider it inappropriate if she was trying to play baseball in heels. Is it because you think they are attention grabby?

I don't think I'd use the word inappropriate, but it seems silly to wear what I'm guessing are pretty nice shoes to a sandlot though.

Sounds like she had a cute outfit on! I love to wear heels all the time. Makes me feel good. Nothing wrong with that!

Big fashion thing this summer with stilettos and shorts. I could not wear them. I must have comfort these days for my feet. BUT my 22 yr old DD rocks stilettos. AND she will pair them with high-waisted shorts. It's just a pair of shoes and bottoms to me. I don't see the inappropriateness of them. Some people wear flip-flops for everything, Birks, wedges, Crocs, tennis shoes, whatever. I am just always looking for someone to have on clothes when they are out and about.

We were vacationing last week at beaches all along the coast of Orange County and Los Angeles. I can't believe the amount of people I saw in heels at the beach. I live in central Minnesota, so I could see like a wedge, but actual heels at the beach seemed odd (ETA odd isn't the right word-difficult to deal with in the sand is what I mean but I can't think of the right word). I'm not talking about people going to a restaurant on the beach for dinner in a nice dress or something, but people in shorts and swimsuit coverups walking to and from the beach and shops around the area.
I'm not really a heels person, so I only wear them when I must!
Some people are so natural in heels, but that just isn't me. Apparently it works for many and they even feel comfortable in heels at the beach.

I know tons of women who wear ONLY heels. They typically aren't baseball moms. In the 8 years that my son has been playing, I've seen a couple of high wedges, but zero stilettos.

I don't know if I'd use the word inappropriate because it's just a baseball game. My question would be why? I've never understood the appeal of wearing any type of heel, so there's that.

I had a friend who said stiletto heels were "f--- me heels." DH and I had never heard that, and ever since then, if we see someone in stiletto heels, we give each other the knowing look.
If someone wore them to a sporting event, I'd say the woman was more interested in getting people to watch her, rather than watching the sporting event. They strike me as being worn by someone who really, really wants to look "high fashion."

Is it because you think they are attention grabby? I can see them being an inappropriate choice if you are walking on an uneven surface (dirt, grass) or climbing into an open grid bleacher.

I think it is a thing too. I'm seeing it in the minivan mommy crowd a lot. Where I live it is pretty casual so flip flops are the norm with shorts. High heels stand out when paired with shorts. I don't think using the term "inappropriate" is inappropriate, It is fitting. Just as it wouldn't be appropriate to wear shorts to an interview for a high-powered position. Or to wear a full-length formal gown to pick up your kid at the daycare. Inappropriate doesn't mean "wrong" or "immoral" just not appropriate for the situation.

Inappropriate meaning not for the circumstances, where in this case, it could be a safety concern. Not inappropriate as in, say, wearing PJ's to a wedding. I see it a lot. I see it MLB or NHL games. I see it at Disney World. I see it the mall or grocery store. And yes, I've seen it at plenty of kids events. But I'm a shorts and T-shirt kind of girl. I wear the most comfortable thing possible which in my case is either sneakers or sandals.

To me, she may have been wanting to look a particular way (go for it, honey!) - but ended up looking stupid. Perhaps she'll change, or she won't--and will be topic of conversations at games to come. Inappropriate was the woman at Kroger's last week who was wearing her bathing suit. And wrapped in a towel. Had to make sure I wasn't at Walmart.

Meh. To each their own. My old boss was incapable of walking around in flats. Seriously, she couldn't do it. She needed at least a 4" heel at all times. So yeah, she'd be the one at the field in high heels just because they're more comfortable for her.

Between living near the water, plus the nudist colony up the road (yeah, really!) that's pretty normal at our grocery store.

I have worn them a couple times to the ball field. Mainly because I was rushing there right after leaving work late and didn't have time to go home and change. I wear heels to work nearly everyday. It's not a big deal to me as I wear heels to lots of places.

I wear heels everyday. I also go to my kids sporting events after work. I don't find it necessary to change my clothes.

We went to the races (think mud, dirt, rocks and hills) and this lady was wearing stilettos and a tube top dress were I could see her ass cheeks. All the women were talking crap on her and I thought it was mean actually because at the end of the day if this makes her feel good then it's her thing. I also think they were probably jealous because she had a killer body.

Man, if I could walk in stilettos I would probably wear them everywhere too.
But I can't wear them on flat surfaces much less grass and gravel and climbing the bleachers, so I'm okay sticking with my yoga pants and tennis shoes. Sorry fashionistas, when I say I wouldn't ever I'm not being catty! It's actually literal.

I'm always amazed when I see women wearing stilettos at an amusement park, and I see it all the time. There is no way in hell I could/would do that, but more power to 'em if they can.
