Sorry fashionistas, when I say I wouldn't ever I'm not being catty! There's nothing catty about saying you personally can't wear stilettos, it's catty to say she was probably trying to hook a man, wanted to be the centre of attention, was hoping to get fucked etc. That's catty, like really catty.

I think it's not a practical choice, but if she doesn't care that her heels might get messed up, or if she might fall, then that's her problem.

If she wants to wear them, get down with her bad self. If she goes ass over tea kettle trying to do something in heels, then we'll call that a lesson learned, and entertainment for all. I don't think it's "inappropriate". I don't want someone to determine, based on my looks, what I should or should not be wearing. Are my bits covered? yes! Success!

I've not been to a sandlot so not sure if they were appropriate or not. But I'm one of those who pretty much wear heels exclusively.
Where I live it seems pretty normal for women to wear heels the majority of the time. I can see someone doing this here.
I'd say inappropriate if she couldn't walk in them for whatever reason.

Inappropriate clothing seems to be getting to be the norm, though, doesn't it? People wear their pajamas to the grocery store. Women wear stilettos with super short shorts. Bikinis are becoming microscopic. I don't even wear shorts much less short shorts, and my swimming apparel of choice has been a sedate swim dress for decades. I think it's a thing. And I think it's a hilarious thing, because so many women fall off those ridiculous shoes and break their ankles. Darwinism! Pull your shawl a little tighter, granny I highly doubt you've ever seen even one woman fall off her heels and break her ankle, either.

I opened this half thinking it was going to be about stilettos for kids which would be inappropriate. I think the word most of you are searching for is impractical. Imho as impractical as it is to wear stilettos to such an event, it really has no effect on me, so that person can wear whatever she wants. All of the judgement and making fun makes me think of sour grapes.

Meh.....some women prefer and/or are more comfortable in heels. We are all supposed to be different. I'm sure there is a thread on another board where all the stiletto moms are talking about the flip flop yoga pants moms lol.

I had a friend who said stiletto heels were "f--- me heels." DH and I had never heard that, and ever since then, if we see someone in stiletto heels, we give each other the knowing look. If someone wore them to a sporting event, I'd say the woman was more interested in getting people to watch her, rather than watching the sporting event. They strike me as being worn by someone who really, really wants to look "high fashion." Thank god for your friend for clueing you and clueless DH about what those women are ACTUALLY up to. They're trying to get noticed and fucked! Just think, if you hadn't been told this, you might think the woman just liked the way they looked and you'd never be able to share that "knowing look" with your husband!

I'm exactly 5 feet tall and used to wear super high heels all the time. I can run and play tag in them. (Ask my former students.)I used to marvel at singers who could dance in high heels. They are probably wearing the brand, Pleasers.

And I think it's a hilarious thing, because so many women fall off those ridiculous shoes and break their ankles. Darwinism! How mean spirited. I was going today the same thing! And why is a "sedate swim dress" any better than a bikini? If someone is comfortable wearing something and it makes them feel good about themselves then they should! Posts like yours make me want to put a micro bikini and stilettos on this old worn out body of mine and go for a walk through your neighborhood.

Where do you all live who report that stilettos and heels in general are the norm?
I would say that in my area, a woman of mom-years choosing to wear heels to anything but a formal event would be setting out to be noticed. It's not the norm in any arena I travel in. I do see young, as in teen or college age girls, wearing very high heels sometimes, but again, not really the norm.
I'm willing to believe there is a regional difference.

I felt the shoes were inappropriate for the environment, given that we had to walk on gravel for quite a ways to get to the field and then going up and down bleachers and walking on a variety of surfaces once at the field (grass, brick, more gravel, etc). I thought that the outfit itself was cute--but a little much for a 7 year olds baseball game. It is very rare to see someone wearing stilettos at all around here, let alone to a game, so she stood out. The shorts were way shorter than would be allowed at work, I would think, so it didn't seem that she was coming straight from work.

Imho as impractical as it is to wear stilettos to such an event, it really has no effect on me, so that person can wear whatever she wants. All of the judgement and making fun makes me think of sour grapes. I don't have sour grapes. The woman did look good in the outfit, which I already said was cute. Like I also said, it is very rare here to see women wearing stilettos anywhere, let alone a game, and it apparently has happened twice in the last week (one that a friend mentioned and once that I saw--and he friend wasn't being catty, we were just talking in general about what to wear to games and tournaments, since we were at one and the weather kept changing, etc). So, I asked if this was common in other areas and we would start to see it more often. Whether you choose the word impractical or inappropriate, I still think it is an odd place to wear heels like that. The outfit would have been cute with other shoes as well so if it was me I would have chosen that option. That was her choice, though.

I haven't seen that look around here.
When I was younger, I wore heels all the time and have nothing against them.
But I don't get the heels and shorts combination, to be honest. To me, it is like wearing sneakers and a cocktail dress. I especially do not get wearing stilettos to walk on gravel. That just sounds stupid. But go on with your self consciously super bad self if you want to dress like that.

I have seen this somewhat in NYC, where people walk to and from to work, but other than that, I rarely see anyone in heels unless they are at work, and even then not so much. Maybe a 2 inch heel for the most part. I worked at a school and a few moms wore heels, but most teachers didn't because they were on their feet all day. I wore them as a teen, but as I aged, I didn't find them comfortable. I live in a moderately large city, but nowhere where heels would be worn the majority of the time. My city is really an outdoorsy place and maybe that is why.

To me, she may have been wanting to look a particular way (go for it, honey!) - but ended up looking stupid. Perhaps she'll change, or she won't--and will be topic of conversations at games to come. Inappropriate was the woman at Kroger's last week who was wearing her bathing suit. And wrapped in a towel. Had to make sure I wasn't at Walmart. I think we have seen the same woman!

I wear heels almost everyday. I just prefer them. About half of my women coworkers wear heels. But Kansas has never been a fashion mecca so maybe we are hopelessly out of date!

True story:
Back in the late 40s early 50s, my parents lived next door to the town hoochi. (Tight dress, 6 inch heels, platinum blonde, lots of makeup, looking for any man). Well, one day she decided to climb a ladder, wearing her heels.
Ummmm she slipped.
Got her heel stuck where no heel should be stuck.
Lot of husbands wanted to help her , but you know how wives can be. So the fire department was called. I guess fire men's wives can be just as crabby as neighbor wives, because they wouldn't let their husbands near the woman either My dad's mom finally went out with a blanket and clothes pins climbed up the ladder and pinned the blanket on. Then pushed her up enough the get the shoe out of the nether region.
I am not sure what happened after that, because the woman's family moved her out while she was in the hospital.
Moral of the story: don't wear your heels on a ladder.

I'd LMAO if the dumbass fell in those stilettos at the little league field.
And I have seen people stumble in them. More than a few times.

You feel that *you* couldn't do that, so therefore they are not appropriate shoes for *you*. If she trips in that situation, she'll figure out out on her own that they are not appropriate shoes for herself, but that's her lesson to learn.

I wasn't so much referring to your post as to the other ones making fun of people, out saying she couldn't get a man etc. I Think the word inappropriate is what is raising some eyebrows here though, saying heels are inappropriate for that terrain smacks of my mom and the other older ladies judging some young lady for wearing a dress without a slip at a wedding. That I just rolled my eyes at too. Yes they certainly are impractical, but inappropriate makes you sound like you're saying she's the town hussy for trying a fashion trend.

I'd be so uncomfortable, but then I think of my sister who wore stiletto shoes when she was 9 months pregnant and it's just really normal for her. I think she's crazy mainly because I find it an impossible feat. (feet? lol) PS. I would totally wear an evening gown to a ball game because.. hello. How fun would that be.
