It goes straight into the can of lost screws and nails. You never know when you need one "just that size." This!

If I throw it in the junk drawer I'll never discover what it came from and won't need it. If I toss it in the trash I'll discover that it's an irreplaceable part to something really important. Gah! Junk drawer it is.

Keep it. It goes in the Mason jar of random screws and nails.

I would sit it on top of the piano and let my DH know that it is there. If it is still there a few days later, I will throw it away. He has boxes and boxes of screws in the garage and never has to use them for anything.
I have to say I'm surprised at just how many of us find these screws. Where the hell are they all coming from?

I do! My husband is notorious for sticking things in his pockets without thinking - even if he's working on something. I have a little jar in the junk drawer that holds the odds and ends I find on the floor and in his pockets. We rarely need anything that's in there, but still. You never know.

I usually put it in a random drawer where it stays for years, and then I might throw it out.

If I found it on the floor I'd save it because I'd know it had been touched recently, but I have been known to toss them without a second thought when cleaning out my desk or sewing machine drawers (don't know how they got there).

After saving them for a decade or more, I have finally decided that we have nearly every type & variety already in our "inventory", so I can toss any from now on.

I throw them in the junk drawer. I even saved a screw that I found on the floor at work one day!! At this moment, though, I am not sure whether i put it in my drawer or finally threw it away. LOL

Yes, I save it - there are bins the workbench for spare parts and we rummage through them often before we head to the hardware store. It has saved my rear end on more than one project. Sometimes, I have found the part's original home (and once what I thought was just a nut was really a decorative end on the blanket stand!).
However, there are those moments when in the trash it goes because the garage is just too far to walk! LOL

Husband sweeps and vacuums so this is not my issue. I would throw it in the junk drawer.

Junk drawer it most of the time, and think about what it might belong to. I have tossed with a second thought though.

Not a thought trash - they have these nifty places where they sell screws in all shapes and sizes. 5 years from now when I discover the item with the missing screw, I'm much more likely to find an appropriate screw there, than recall where I "saved" every random screw I come across. I so agree with this.

I would ponder where it could have come from, hang on to it for several years, finally throw it away, then panic for a bit that maybe I shouldn't have thrown it away quite yet.

Toss it in the box with other unsorted screws. And YES, sooner or later, I WILL use it!

Save it with the other leftover screws, nails, nuts, etc. Unless it's dirty. Then I toss it.

I try to think where it belongs. If I can't think of anything, in the trash it goes!

By the time my son was 2 (he's now 46) he was obsessed with picking up screws, marbles, washers, nuts or what ever he could find. He had a coffee can in the garage that held his "treasures". Eventually he began dropping his found things in the junk drawer. This is how it has always been and probably will always be for me. Into the junk drawer it goes!!!

I save them. They go into the "knick knack" drawer.
Goodness only knows why I save them. DSO has eleventy billion screws of all sizes in his man cave, should I ever discover something that is missing a screw.
